With a heavy heart, my father passed away this Wednesday, April 24, 2024. I long for another phone call, another text message, another visit together, but I know that will never come. This was the song that he had always said he wanted played at his funeral. One of the last things he said to me during our visit together last month, was him making a promise that he would walk me down the aisle. It breaks my heart knowing that I'll never have that chance with him, and I'll never have a daddy daughter wedding dance. He was taken too young and too soon, but God called him home, and now he is no longer suffering. Not a day has gone by that I don't talk out loud to him, miss him, and love him. I'm grateful he got to meet my little family and create a bond with my son. We had so many plans for the future. He created and hosted several radio countdown programs, notably American Top 40. He was the first actor to voice Shaggy Rogers in the Scooby-Doo franchise (1969 to 1997 and 2002 to 2009) and Dick Grayson/Robin in Super Friends (1973–1985). Kasem began hosting the original American Top 40 on the weekend of July 4, 1970, and remained there until 1988. He would then spend nine years hosting another countdown titled Casey’s Top 40, beginning in January 1989 and ending in February 1998, before returning to revive American Top 40 in 1998. Along the way, spin-offs of the original countdown were conceived for country music and adult contemporary audiences, and Kasem hosted two countdowns for the latter format beginning in 1992 and continuing until 2009. He also founded the American Video Awards in 1983 and continued to co-produce and host it until its final show in 1987. Kasem also provided many commercial voiceovers, performed many voices for children’s television (such as Sesame Street and the Transformers cartoon series), was “the voice of NBC” and helped with the annual Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon. 🏡 💕Last month we helped my son and his bride move into their new home in Abilene. We are so proud of Madi & Noah and give all glory to God for the many blessings He has provided us all. I pray that their new home will be filled with love and with endless blessings as they venture on this new milestone of homeownership. 🐶 🌈 We said goodbye to our 12 year old rescue dog, Connor in March. He was such a gentle dog and the perfect companion. We miss him terribly. I want to thank Dr. Kline at Hooves & Paws in Helotes for helping us with Connor in his final hours. She was so gentle with him, it was beautiful. 💙 My kind hearted Uncle Norbert was laid to rest. He honorably served in the US Air Force and retired from Frito-Lay after a long career with them. He too was a gentle soul. He was always optimistic and a huge support of his family. Please pray for my sweet Aunt Mary as she navigates through life without her soulmate by her side. I submitted my embroidery images today to @threads.of.solidarity, an organization collecting needlework for a massive digital tapestry honouring those who have been murdered in Palestine. These sweet babies only lived to be 8 years old. I tried to use gauze as a soft accessory, cloud-like and gentle; the stitching was improvised and done on a soft cotton shirt. On April 24th my sister gained her wings. We may have had our moments where we argued uncontrollably and stop talking for months to years at a time. But our last conversation felt like nothing had ever happened. She was our Teeney Beeny again. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that she will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was an amazing mom and amazing sister. Despite the fact we all had her moments. She was the one responsible for talking some sense into me , while getting me into trouble at the same time throughout our teenage and early adult years. She was the first one that made all of us Auntys. She’s the one who gave me the nickname Nana as a joke, but it stuck around and now all of my nieces and nephews call me Nana. She was definitely one of the main pieces in our group that blended friends to family. Our little latchkey group feels incomplete now. This came out of nowhere and none of us understand it. No matter the problems any of us have had , every single one of us have been there for each other no matter how bad things got. We are all sisters, family, we had an unbreakable bond and a code that we all held up to each other to this day. And now the smallest of my big sister has gained her wings. I know all of us are grieving and my heartbreak so badly for my nieces , her little girls that she told daily how much she loved them. I know they’re struggling . So if everyone could please say a prayer for my nieces to send them comfort and peace while they try to figure out this loss in their life, I would appreciate it. Also on this day in Classic Country Music, another one of my top favorite singers in the genre the Possum himself George Jones passed away from respiratory insufficiency at the age of 81 back in the year 2013. Hopefully, he's now up in heaven singing for God. He had an amazing singing voice and an incredible style in Country Music. Of course I have so many favorites of him including his famous cover of The Big Bopper's Drinking Song called "White Lightning" (1959), a love song called "Loving You Could Never Be Better" (1972), a song about memories called "The Grand Tour" (1974), "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" (1985) & several others, for the most part a lot of his songs are hits that he wrote (and co-wrote) and certain ones are covers that became really famous for him too. I may be 23 and may not have grown up with these artists back in 50s to the 70s, but in my opinion they sure beat the heck out of the music of today. George will always be remembered for sure. The Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame shall forever keep him in memory. As for me, I sing his songs at karaoke sometimes because like I mentioned already he's another one of my top favorite singers and musicians in Classic Country Music. I play his songs loud and proud and I sure love listening to his stuff.
