Happy April Fool's Day! No one knows the true origins of April Fool's Day, so rather than talking about the historical significance behind it, let's talk about the Fool - the entry point into the story of the tarot. Let's take a look at four Fools from four different decks. There are some similarities to the Rider Waite-Smith in this card, but you'll also notice that our animal companion is now feline instead of canine, our Fool appears feminine instead of the traditional masculine, and she's distracted by the sun and the flowers versus looking forwards towards the edge of the cliff. The word "potential" fully embodies the idea of the Fool - hope, new beginnings, and possibilities. Cleansing spiritually is an often overlooked task. We're so focused on manifesting what we want and getting rid of what we don't want that cleansing often falls to the sidelines. Take this time to cleanse and banish that which no longer serves you. There are many ways to cleanse including smoke, waters, bells, and singing bowls. The herbs that you burn during smoke cleansing matter! Make sure you're using the right herbs for the type of energy that you're dealing with. The same goes for waters. All water has naturally cleansing properties. The ones shown here are seven sacred waters and moon water, but you could also use Florida water or other waters depending on what you're dealing with. Sound in general can be very cleansing and therapeutic. If you don't have a bell or singing bowl, you can find videos of them online to listen to. It's the frequency and volume of sound that you want, so don't fret if you don't have an expensive singing bowl. Another great way to cleanse that won't cost you anything is to go outdoors and walk around barefoot on dirt or grass (obviously make sure there's nothing on the ground that will hurt you first.) Scrying is a form of divination typically performed using a crystal ball or mirror, but there are many other forms of scrying you can do. If you don't have a fancy mirror or crystal you could simply go to a lake or look into a candle flame. Use what you have! Magick isn't always glamorous. Sometimes it's taking your grandma's frying pan and staring at it until you receive a message. The whole purpose of scrying is to look into a reflective surface and read the shapes that appear to you. Fitchie designed this deck as a visual device for "thinking about things." This deck is inspired by both Pamela Coleman-Smith's artwork as well as the roundness of the Motherpeace Tarot by Karen Vogel & Vicki Nobel. There are many ways to use round cards. We talked about some of them already, but Fitchie suggests something a little different than the clockwork method we discussed previously. A spirit altar is a good starting point for working with other realms. Everyone's altars are unique to their specific experience and practice, but here are a few things that you might find on an altar devoted to spirit work! For some people, spirit and ancestral work cross over, so you might find the Ancestral Magick Divination Kit to be a useful tool on your spirit journey. Other useful objects include an offering bowl (it's always a good idea to leave offerings when working with any spirit,) candles to help guide spirits to you, a mirror for reflection or to act as a portal, and a pendulum to communicate with the ones you call to you. Itโs been a while since Iโve posted a card pull. And it felt right to do this. This is a third card pull and a shadow card from the Galactic Heritage Cards by the channel Lyssa Royal-Holt. I donโt use these cards often, partially because there is a lot of them. I pulled these before a zoom get together with one of my dear friends. The first card represents our energetic past. We are where we are because of wellโฆ a single minded focus. No matter how many choices weโve made, no matter how many strange choices weโve chosen, it was us who led us right here with our single minds. We are where we are because of what we have done in the past. Remember that. We made our choices to bring us each step of the way. Sometimes, it wasnโt the right choice. Sometimes, we have been pushed in this direction. But, we are not victims. We are educated by our past to create our present. The present energies are Primal Fear. The world feels like it is in chaos. Things are happening beyond our control. The country continues to fight against itself, and even fight against the very freedoms this country initially stood. Itโs okay to be afraid, but we do not have to cower. We can step into our own truth and rally to create something special that feels safe. You can do this within your found families (if not your family), and within your community of friends. Create spaces that fill you up and create a safety net that allows you to continue to grow even in the face of this fearful adversity. The third card is all about learning to nurture. These fire growing in us need to be nurtured and grown. Our friendship need to be held on to and treated with love and care. Our homes and bodies need to be treated as kindly as we wish to be treated. There is always an up and down curve that happens as we experience life. You'll hear a lot about mixing decks here, because anyone who starts collecting decks can't help but wonder about it some point. You'll start drawing connections and comparing themes, and it's fun to see how different decks "talk" to each other. There are many ways to combine decks! Among them... ๐น Taking two (or more) decks of comparable size, and shuffling them together into one large stack. To do a reading, simply draw at random from the combined stack. This works best with oracle cards, so that you don't have multiple cards with the same face as you might with 2 or more tarot decks. ๐น Creating an amalgam deck, such as a 78-card tarot, by curating a selection from multiple tarot decks by different artists, and maybe even from different time periods. ๐น Using one primary deck for a spread, then using a few cards from a second deck as clarifiers. Today we're using the third approach. The primary reading is a simplified tarot tableau with 5 cards in a "cross," and then oracle cards are added to the first and third rows to add insight.
