There has been an unfortunate rise in pet cat abandonment since the recent announcements and AVS is hoping to clear any confusion about this. ๐ข ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ'๐ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ผ๐ ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ ๐ธ๐ป๐ผ๐: You can keep all your existing cats as long as their health and welfare needs are met. Pet cats canโt be left on the streets to fend on their own and abandoning them is heartbreaking. AVS has also reminded in their communication that it is an offence. We know everyone in our community wants the best for their pets. Rest assured, the new scheme does not change that the best place for them is with their family. The upcoming framework will include licensing and microchipping schemes to help manage and protect our cat population better, but it does not require you to part with any pets you currently care for. An aversion to water is one of the most well-known characteristics of household cats. Domestic cats will go to great lengths to avoid getting wet, and behaviorists have developed a number of theories to explain why. One suggests that because the species evolved in dry climates and had little exposure to rivers or lakes, water (except for drinking) is an element they are unfamiliar with and thus avoid. More likely, however, cats donโt like getting wet because of what water does to their fur. Cats are fastidious animals that spend a great deal of their day grooming themselves. Thank you @mothershipsg for sharing the story of the Changi construction site cats! ๐๐ป Project LUNIโs team first visited the site at the Upper Changi area where a kind soul had discovered around 20 stray cats in August 2023. ๐ This generous person had taken on the task of feeding the cats and kittens with food and leftovers. "Without him, these cats would not have survived. His kindness towards the cats has touched many of us." Project LUNI has been offering support by providing food and helping with rescue efforts. Thus far, eight kittens and two adult cats have been fostered and adopted, while seven adult cats were trapped, neutered and released. Cats need more protein than other domestic animals like dogs and even people. Cats break the protein down into 11 amino acids. Also known as essential amino acids, they are not found in catsโ natural systems and are the building blocks that create new proteins and make glucose for energy. On the other hand, amino acids that are found within catsโ natural systems are called non-essential amino acids, as they are not required in a catโs diet. Cats are obligate omnivores, needing meat-based protein to survive. The slightest deficiencies in any of the essential amino acids can lead to serious health problems for cats. Additionally, the essential amino acid histidine, is a structural protein that acts as a precursor to a number of neurological compounds such as histamine. Histidine deficiency can result in weight loss, refusal to eat, and may result in cataracts. Cats can consume their dietary protein and obtain their essential amino acids through animal products like chicken and fish. Chicken has one of the highest biological values of all the meats, making it an excellent protein source for cats. It is also a good source of tryptophan, calcium, potassium, and vitamin B6. Sadly, when we took him for his FIV/FELV test, he tested positive for FELV via the in-house test. ๐ฟ โจToby is the sweetest little fluffy 4 month old tabby kitten and we are urgently looking for an adopter or fosterer for him - ideally in a household without other cats. ๐ Heโs extremely comfident, fun and cuddly and will make the ideal WFH or Netflix companion! ๐ป He deserves a chance! Some cats manage to fight off FELV and a repeat test will be required in a few months to confirm itโs itโs a real positive. ๐ชโจ Toby is currently warded at the vet as he cannot be with other kittens.
