May be you know that Georgia is most likely the country of birth of the viticulture in the Old World. The wine history of Georgia dates back to 8000 BC. And Georgia decided on a different way of producing wine in contrast to Europe. Most of the wines are fermented and partially aged together with the skins in amphoras (here named Qvevris) which are buried in the ground. This is the old and traditional method of producing wine in Georgia, and what you see is such a qvevri wine: 🍇 2020 Chateau Mukhrani Qvevri Grand Vin de Georgie 🍇 Chateau Mukhrani was founded in 1878 and is located in Kakheti, the most important wine region of Georgia. Today it is an icon of the country, the wines are highly recommandet and the website "Best Vineyards" rated Chateau Mukhrani in to the Top 50 of the best and most important wineries in the world. 🍇 This wine is a blend of the autochthonous varieties Saperavi and Takveri with 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. It was fermented over 3-4 months together withe skins in qvevris and then aged in small barrels over 15-18 months. The wine was bottled unfiltered. 🍷 A really very interesting and exciting wine. It has a brillant and deep nearly impenetrable ruby red color with violet reflections on the edge. The nose offers flavours of fresh grapes, dark berries, black currant and lilac berries along with sweet oriental spices and dark chocolate with hints of black pepper and raisins. 🍷 On the palate it is medium to fullbodied with very fine-grained tannins which leave a chocolatey mouthfeeling. The accidity is fresh with a mineralic touch and very well integrated. Here you feel flavours of cherries and cherry juice. You feel power in this wine, the finale has a very good length with a fine salty echo. Enjoy this very original wine over the next 7-10 years.
