Visited @kinkally.restaurant with my dear @agent_sss last weekend, a new Georgian restaurant in Soho that’s been opened only for four months and already earned their spot on the Michelin guide on the same day we visited. We started off with some delicious starters: beetroot, aubergine and imeruli with lamb chashuli, paired with what they called the “funky” orange wine that was slightly earthy and smoky. Highly recommend all three starters. Onto the mains, we had three different types of khinkali: langoustine, wagyu and lamb. The lamb and langoustine ones were the winners for me. . Thanks everyone for your love and support whilst we process the passing of our beloved D. I'm up in the top end of Australia atm. It might look like Paradise but it's full of bogans, crocodiles and Curlews that screech like banchees at midnight. A shrill sound that I've come to enjoy because it's sounds so chilling. Lol! They are nocturnal birds and look like owls on stilts. I've got midge-ee bites all over my legs and arms and it's been decades since I've pulled out the Pink calamine lotion. God that stuff stinks like soggy childhood bandaids. I'm usually an inside cat when it comes to hot humid weather but the magical irredescent blue ulysses butterflies have been unbelievable, so worth suffering the heat. There's not much chop up here when it comes to treasure hunting but I struck Gold yesterday. Yay!!!! and I mean thank the Jewellery Gods. Cos when I can't find Antique jewellery I turn Blue. I'll share the Treasures next week when I'm back to posting regularly. They will be for Sale. In the meantime I found this extraordinary enamel brooch depicting a Lion Rampant with Scottish and French connections. I can't wait to research it more. It's a keeper and the enamel work just makes my heart sing. You know I have a kiln and the Artist in me was always going to experiment with painting enamel portraits on copper. She married the Hon Charles Yorke, as his first wife, in 1755, when this portrait was probably painted. May the First No Lily of the Valley, just a basket of flowers, butterflies, shells, etchings, musings, poems and a gathering of amusements and pretty things all beautifully and most carefully bound in this tooled leather album. Most entries date around 1832/34 and many of the architectural etchings are of grand houses in Warwickshire including several of Warwick Castle. . A genteel pastime in late Georgian, early Victorian times for ladies. . This, one of my treasured possessions, was the work of an aunt?/cousin? (not quite sure), on my mother’s side. The hours of boredom, that produced such detailed, dexterous , exquisite handiwork. Particularly, I am struck by the embroidery around the paper ‘doily’ framing the paper cut pattern of a flower. Pic 6. And truthfully 1834 was during the reign of William IV. (1830-1837), how sad that his reign has been subsumed by what we refer to as the Georgian era. What shall we be when the current Prince of Wales comes to the throne? No longer Elizabethan’s nor Carolean’s - Williamsonian’s? Is there a precedent? 18th century George I walnut cabinet on chest 18th century george I walnut cabinet on chest circa 1710. We are pleased to offer this stunning cabinet in the manner of coxed and woster. The piece is lavishly veneered in burr walnut, with a burr elm interior which was coloured the same as mulberry. Comprising of 2 parts. Top section with cornice and cushion fronted frieze which forms a concealed drawer. Below which the stunning double door cabinet with cross banded edging, which opens with original key to reveal a fully fitted interior. 8 drawers veneered in a striking elm surround the central tabernacle, this pulls out to reveal a secret bank of fitted drawers, with further bank of secret drawers to the rear of the pull out compartment, which are hidden by a drop down slide. 1889 work commenced on a new post office building at the corner of York and Abercorn Streets in Savannah, Georgia……and then construction was abruptly halted. The quite obstinate citizens of Savannah demanded a “more suitable” building than the one originally planned. See here the result. The GSA is currently funding a full restoration of this magnificent building designed by Jeremiah O’Rourke. The renovation is overseen and in excellent hands with @hartmancoxarchitects American cities would look very different if we all had a bit more gumption to demand better buildings.

A portrait miniature, Portrait of a Gentleman, in the manner or style of Richard Cosway 1742 - 1821, fl. 1760 -1821); late Georgian, ca. 1790s - 1820s, watercolour on ivory, 7.5 cm length inc. gold frame. Verso, a gold monogram (possibly DM) sits on plaitted hair. Typical of Cosway’s oeuvre is the use of a blue sky background and a cool somewhat muted palette and softer modelling of the subject, sharply in contrast to the warm saturated tones and very resolved style of his contemporary John Smart (1741. - 1811). Many of Cosway’s portraits show his sitters three-quarter profile, as here, either facing left or right. The pose is not unique to Cosway, far from it, but does seem to be consistently his preferred option. It’s May Day! The Piece Hall, Halifax 🏛️ This iconic building featured in this artwork is the Grade I listed Piece Hall, the only remaining Georgian cloth hall in the world. The first day of May is also known as International Workers Day or Labor Day in many countries and is often used as a day to defend workers’ rights.
