Named in 1999 by PRWeek as ‘the century’s most influential PR figure,’ Harold Burson, a beloved member of the Coca-Cola family for decades, passed away today. A true icon in the PR and business world, Burson was praised for his innovative spirit and celebrated for his tremendous work in the industry. Reposted from @coke_archives - Exciting day here @thecocacolaco as we finally unveil the completed Central Reception Building at our headquarters in Atlanta. This project has been at the forefront of our time and energy the last year and a half and we are so proud to have such a presence at the “front door” of our global HQ. Here is a peek at 2 prominent places in the building - the first being the recreation of Mr. Robert Woodruff’s office as well as a storytelling of his legacy that continues to arc to our purpose today. The second is of the Yellow Delivery Truck that greets associates and visitors alike as they enter the building. The truck is actually a vehicle produced by the White Motor Company, the Company for whom Mr. Woodruff was the VP before coming to lead the Coca-Cola Company in 1923. We hope this reimagined space will surprise and delight all who come through our campus and offer new insights into our past future. . . . . . #crbrefreshed #thecocacolacompany #cokearchives #archivesofinstagram #thingsgobetterwithcoke

Happy New Year! We’re officially a whole century away from the Roaring Twenties. In 1920, the average monthly rent in Atlanta was $15, a movie ticket cost fifteen cents, and a gallon of gas was just thirty-three cents. Almost makes you want to cry, doesn’t it? Any guesses what a bottle of Coke would have set you back? • • • • • #atlantahistorycenter #makehistory #atlantahistory #atlanta #exploregeorgia #discoveratl #cocacola #cokearchives #cocacolacompany #archivesofinstagram #thingsgobetterwithcoke #averagerent #historicfactsandfigures #statisticsinhistory #censushistory

Also known as “Mr. Anonymous” around Atlanta and fondly known as “The Boss” at The Coca-Cola Company, Mr. Woodruff was elected President of Coca-Cola in 1923 and dedicated more than six decades of his life to the Company until his passing in 1985. During his tenure, he transformed the business into a global icon, standardized the drink and its significance to consumers, saw countless innovative products and ideas find success, and made an unprecedented philanthropic impact on our community in Atlanta and subsequently around the world. We are thankful today and everyday for the brave men and women who have served for the United States 🇺🇸 After the United States entry into WWII, Robert Woodruff ordered “to see that every man in uniform gets a bottle of Coca-Cola for 5 cents, wherever he is and whatever it costs the Company.” That promise represents the steadfast respect and support the Company has and always will have for our Military. #VeteransDay . If you laid out all our shelves end to end it would be equal to 2.4 miles, and if every flat file was laid out end to end you’d have 2 football fields. On September 24, 1976 Grambling State and Morgan State competed in Tokyo, Japan for the first Pioneer Bowl, and Robinson led the Grambling State team to victory with the final score of 42-16. Not only did this pioneering first become a global milestone, but so did its broadcast. Believing this moment to be truly auspicious, The Coca-Cola Export Corporation set out to co-sponsor the telecast across countries throughout Latin America and Southeast Asia, a first for what would become international broadcasting. This commercial aired celebrating the lunar landing and even shared a special side of the moon unseen before 👀 . . . . . . #archives #archivesofinstagram #cocacola #cokearchives #thingsgobetterwithcoke #thecocacolacompany #apollo11 #lunarlanding

In 1928, Coca-Cola set up its very first refreshment stand in the Olympic Games. The Games were being hosted in Amsterdam where there was no established bottling so the bottles were transported overseas from the US with the competing athletes. Today CEO James Quincey announces that our partnership with the Olympics has been extended through 2032, making @thecocacolaco the longest continuous sponsor of the International Olympic Committee. #OnThisDay in 1886, pharmacist Dr. John Pemberton sold the first Coca-Cola for 5 cents at Jacobs’ Pharmacy in Atlanta. Pronounced ‘excellent,’ Coca-Cola was unlike any beverage on the market and sales averaged nine drinks per day in its first year. Over the course of the last 133 years, Coca-Cola has become a household name and global icon. From powerful advertising to moments of happiness, Coca-Cola will always provide the pause that refreshes. While at Coke I was fortunate to get to meet and work with all of the Chairman during my time and I really enjoyed working with Muhtar Kent. He was a huge fan of the Archives and was very supportive of our team and our mission. With his retirement this week, for my Throwback Thursday post, I scrolled through my phone to find some of the photos of our interactions over the years. Enjoy your retirement Mr. Kent and it was great to work with you! #cocacola #cokearchives #muhtarkent #TBT #throwbackthursday

To continue our celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth, we are proud to feature this photo of the remarkable Tuskegee Airman, Charles B. Hall. In a grainy black-and-white photograph, Lt. Charles B. Hall holds up an ice-cold bottle of Coca-Cola, moments after making history on July 2, 1943. Hall, one of 43 pilots known as the Tuskegee Airmen, was handed a Coke as a reward from his squadron after becoming the first African-American to take down an enemy aircraft during World War II. The image is a powerful documentation of Robert Woodruff’s promise that any uniformed U.S. soldier would be able enjoy a bottle of Coca-Cola for a nickel – regardless of his location or cost to the company – to stay connected to the familiar tastes of home. It’s on display at Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. and the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta. . REPOST FROM @Coke_archives TRADUÇÃO NOS COMENTÁRIOS Happy Friday and the start of February! We’re excited for the first day of #BlackHistoryMonth and to kick off the celebration we’re sharing a major milestone in @cocacola advertising - 50 years ago in 1969 as the country and Company were gearing up for the 70s, Coca-Cola was ready to embrace a new decade, culture shift, and way of thinking. Launching the “It’s the Real Thing” campaign was transformative as it connected with consumers on a new level, acknowledging the real times that people were going through, not just the happy times. This campaign was also pivotal for the brand because they created an entire piece of the movement directly for black consumers. Working with black agencies such as The Burrell Agency in Chicago, Coca-Cola recognized its major gap in outreach to the black consumer market and realized it needed a change. Adding black agencies, models, and marketing to advertising not only transformed Coca-Cola’s business but also advertising as we know it today. Finally black consumers saw themselves in advertising and in a real way. There’s still a long way to go but we’re proud of the position the brand took almost 50 years ago to be more inclusive.
