Miri teaching โEco-Enzyme and Urban Composting Workshopโ at #ntucincome Eco Bazaar 2022. In the workshops, participants learned how to turn fruit peels into eco-enzyme, which becomes an all-natural all-purpose spray for household cleaning! They also learned the basics of Urban Composting, turning food scraps into compost at home conveniently, using the Urban Composter kit from @thegreencollective.sg In nature, waste is never โthrown awayโ, waste is actually valuable resources that are always reused and recycled. Composting is the best way for us to turn valuable resources back to Mother Nature and to keep carbon in soil, rather than releasing into the air. The participants were wonderful, they came prepared with bottles and scraps, and they asked great questions and were super engaged. We are glad they all left with big smiles on their faces! We try and test out many methods of composting. The Goodman Grows Community Farm, where we do a lot of our work, plays host to multiple systems that help us compost our organic waste. The heap compost is the latest addition and it is a truly community initiative! From resident artists at the @goodmanartscentre to our volunteer community gardeners in the space, everyone contributes to the heap making it a great community composting system . Today morning was spent by @novaceceliana flipping the compost heap and collecting beautiful compost at the bottom. The compost was rich with microbes and worms and both the soil and plants are going to thank us for this with a bountiful harvest. Not to forget the pretty penny we saved from not buying compost and the convenience of having it sit right next to our beds from where we can scoop it out whenever we need! There is earth worm composting being done on the roof top at Tampines Hub and also a Bio-digestor for food waste in the basement. Food waste should be composted in situ, it should never really leave on a truck. Seeing composters in every backyard and roof top gardens to use the compost within the community will a dream come true !!
