It's @brewdogofficial AGM week so it's only right I should get the hype going with some Brewdog beers. The main event is on Saturday in Aberdeen and I hope to be trying some good beers and food, but until then here is a Double Hazy which is what the original Hazy Jane used to be (before they made a more sessionable version) . 🍺Peanut Butter Milk Stout 🍺 I first had this milk stout from @tailgatebrewery back in 2017, and at the time I thought it was fantastic. I popped into @homebargains yesterday and much to my delight they had loads for only £1.50 a can. Having tried it again it's even better than I remembered with the saltiness of the peanut butter cutting through an excellent stout. 🍺Tony's Hopolonely"🍺 Still with the odd sweet beers I have a strange relationship with this one from @brewdogofficial and @tonyschocolonely_uk_ire . First time I tried it last year I hated it. Like seriously thought it tasted like raspberry bile. I couldn't understand why white chocolate and raspberry flavour WASN'T a stout (it's a milkshake ipa) . Anyway I ended up with a few more cans of this in various mix packs and decided to give it another chance. My ratings for this on @untappd were up and down more times than a hoor's drawers. Based on the classic pudding of the same name, this is a fruity sweet beer which actually does a very good job of tasting like it's namesake. Now whether you enjoy this will depend on your feelings towards the retro dessert, but I thought it was decent (albeit a little sweet for my taste). I usually tackle one beer per post but have grouped these five together as they are all from the same brewery and all were equally as underwhelming. I'd never heard of the Better World Brewing Company before but recently ended up with this batch in a mystery box. Despite the brewery seemingly having a good ethos I really cannot recommend their wares at all. All beers lacked in flavour, and didn't have a lot going on. At best a couple were reminiscent of the early days of craft beers when UK breweries were finding their feet. At worst (Ottercan) it was like someone had taken down some Farmfoods own brand orangeade and poured the dregs of a no name ipa into it. I have endured these so you don't have to. Layer Cake from @brewdogofficial is a stout I have had many times but it's always enjoyable. Sweet and indulgent, this marshmallow and chocolate stout tastes pretty much as you would expect from the description and is usually pretty widely available. Perhaps not as versatile as a Jet Black Heart, but if you want a "pudding" stout and can't get to a bottleshop this is a good bet. NORTH OVERTONE, NORTHERN MONK & NEON RAPTOR DDH IPA 7.0% abv This was a Tesco find that few beer fans could surely refuse as it features some serious heavyweights of the brewing scene. Brewed at Northern Monk as part of a “battle” with the South let’s hope this DDH IPA can do justice to the producers on the can as some supermarket collabs can seem a bit tame as opposed to their other solo/bottle shop offerings….but let’s see. On the pour you get a bright yellow coloured brew, fully hazed and sporting a well built white head that sticks around nicely. The nose is super clean & fresh and unsurprisingly demonstrates an expert hand when it comes to hop utilisation. Fruit wise I get lemon, orange, pineapple and mango along with a good dose of sappy hop resins & hop leaf. On the palate body sits comfortably in the medium area with spot on condition for the style that helps make the fruits to come feel more real & initially zesty. First up flavour wise that delightful medley of citrus and tropical hop fruits follows on from the aroma which become more juicy feeling as the carbonation softens. The middle gets the sappy hop resins further building some texture before the scales equalise when a solid yet not unbalanced bitterness materialises, crucially allowing more fruit and resins to linger out nicely in the finish. There’s a nice edge to this beer that keeps it quite captivating and certainly helps it sit at the top of the many supermarket offerings these days. Is it the best that these producers can do?, honestly no but then where this sits in terms of what they could do for the price point they were aiming for then yeah it’s a very good offering. Well worth seeking out. Cacao and Hazelnut Broken Dream - @sirencraftbrew Twisted Breakfast Stout 6.5% --- Now I'm not a dark beer fan, but a breakfast stout I can definitely get behind. A fizzy coffee Milkshake is how I see this beer, with a subtle hazelnut flavour.
