Article by @engadget @apple has resumed conversations with OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, to power some AI features coming to iOS 18, according to a new report in Bloomberg. @apple is also building its own large language models to power some iOS 18 features, but its talks with OpenAI are centered around a “chatbot/search component,” according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. @apple is also reportedly in talks with Google to license @gemini , @google ’s own AI-powered chatbot, for iOS 18. Bloomberg reports that those talks are still on, and things could still go either way because Apple hasn’t made a final decision on which company’s technology to use. It’s conceivable, Gurman says, that @apple could ultimately end up licensing AI tech from both companies or none of them. So far, @apple has been notably quiet about its AI efforts even as the rest of Silicon Valley has descended into an AI arms race. But it has dropped enough hints to indicate that it’s cooking up something. When the company announced its earnings in February, CEO Tim Cook said that Apple is continuing to work and invest in artificial intelligence and is “excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year.” It claimed that the brand new M3 MacBook Air that it launched last month was the “world’s best consumer laptop for AI,” and will reportedly start releasing AI-centric laptops and desktops later this year. And earlier this week, Apple also released a handful of open-source large language models that are designed to run locally on devices rather than in the cloud. FASTrack stands out as the first fully automated recruitment assistant in Pakistan's university scene, now integrated into the official graduate directory for the Islamabad campus. FASTrack streamlines recruitment, helping recruiters and managers quickly pinpoint ideal candidates for specific roles. It revolutionises traditional Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) by harnessing natural language, eliminating the need for manual filtering. We're excited to share that FASTrack stole the spotlight at the National University of Computer & Emerging Sciences' Job Fair 2024, standing out as the highlight of the event. It attracted attention from nearly 30 different companies, all eager to integrate the system into their existing human resource procedures. With the invaluable mentorship of distinguished figures such as Dr. Hammad Majeed, Head of Computer Science, Dr. Mirza Omer Beg, Senior Director at Afiniti, and Dr. Faisal Cheema, Assistant Professor, we achieved a milestone at the university by being the first students to present our project alongside the graduating cohort. The Sharpe ratio is one of the most looked at metric in this regard. It looks at how much better your return is compared to a risk-free return rate (often 10 year T-Note). Generally, values over 2 are considered good - most trading positions at firms will ask for strategies with sharpe ratios of 2 or 3+. However, as most financial models, the sharpe ratio is not perfect. For example, it does not care if your returns are negative or positive, meaning highly asymmetrical strategies (small losses, big wins) can end up with a sub-par sharpe ratio.
