She was denouncing me for not following her on the social media platform called Instagram.She took it very personal as though her life was depended on it. I was surprised and shocked with her message. I didn't know how to reply her. I wanted to ignore her but I didn't. Growing up in Mangalore, South India, I cherished the diverse mix of Hindu, Muslim, and Christian neighbours. We celebrated Diwali, Eid, and Christmas together, creating beautiful memories. As an only child, they became my extended family, and religion never divided us; it united us in peace. I was born into a Christian family, but now I identify as an agnostic atheist. This choice is deeply rooted in my Indian heritage, which has a rich history of philosophical thought and spiritual diversity that has existed for centuries. Growing up, I had the freedom to choose my beliefs and found value in the teachings of Christianity and my Indian ancestral culture. I wanted to incorporate the best of both into my life as a human being. It doesn't mean I lack respect for those who are religious. On the contrary, I wholeheartedly embrace everyone's culture and religion. Each person's path is unique, and that's the beauty of our diverse world. But today, I see division and hate on social media in the name of religion. It's disheartening. Who or what has taken over our minds? Where did our unity and progress go? Our ancestors valued diversity, yet it feels like we're regressing. In this age of technology, it's like we're becoming mindless zombies, trying to change others instead of accepting them. Our history had its challenges, but is it fair to carry that burden today? Why can't we live peacefully and respect each other's choices, just as our elders did? Mocking someone else's way of life isn't a joke; it's a grave offence. It makes people feel unsafe and alienated, contributing to mental health issues. No one has the right to make another person's life miserable or instil fear in society based on their choices. Remember, your actions have consequences, so let's promote understanding and respect for one another and embrace a morality based on human well-being.
