He handled the small griped P365 like a champ. The Staccato grip was a little to big for him to really hold on to. I wanted to know what size dot at 10 ft would be equivalent to hitting the center mass box on our Q targets at 25 yds. I had someone who did this math stuff professionally figure it out for me. So a 1.6 inch dot at 10ft is equivalent to hitting the center mass box at 25yds. A 2 inch circle around that dot is hitting somewhere on the target at 25 yds. So a good amount of my reps take place at 10 ft on the my modified dot torture targets or just by simply drawing a dot. Sometimes I use a 1.5 inch circle because it’s roughly the size of my fingernail. Also aiming at a smaller dot is more challenging, like how Brazilians train soccer with a heavier ball. The red circles in the pictures provided show shot equivalency of a 10 ft dot target with a 25 yd Q target. Instead of walking back and forth from the 25yd line to check my hits, now I can get instant feedback. So if I over or under gripped the weapon, my sights weren’t aligned etc… I know exactly what shot that was on and will immediately fix it. More importantly, when the shot hits the dot I get the feel of a good shot. The feel is important, like hitting the sweet spot in baseball. Training down here at Loudoun Tactical is mind blowing. With my battle belt I’m learning so many new techniques, manipulations, rifle/pistol transitions and the body mechanics of the why and how to shoot in combat and its just the first day of intense drills. Remembering sight over bore with rifle at 10yds and true point of aim for pistol makes y’a think a lot throughout the drills. I learned that Mag changes with rifle can be so fast if done right in 3 steps.. There are key basic skill takeaways and more advanced sling manipulation transitioning to pistol. Physical fitness has shown to be a key factor in success down here especially in the summer heat. Can’t wait for for it maybe rainy and will push on. The Instructors at Loudoun Tactical are second to none. The Special operations forces instructors with real world combat experience unequivocally shows the how and why behind it all. Clear! Occasionally, when I am done teaching class some students will ask me what’s next. They want the next level of training. My answer is always the same. Dry practice for 60 days, Hit the range 4 times, and practice what you learned in class. Not once has somebody done this. “DOT Torture” is my go to drill to work on fundamentals. It’s 50 shots from 3 yards with various courses of fire. This drill is a good indication if you are proficient at the fundamentals. When you can complete this drill with reasonable misses…meaning not perfect but your target doesn’t look like a big piece of Swiss Cheese you may be ready to work on speed and more “Advanced” techniques. Range day with the @taurususa tx22 compact. Got an @umtactical holster for it Added a soft loop and some velcro for a wedge which helps on such a small gun. Ran dot torture and was able to almost clean it but ended with a 49/50. Then decided to run a @baersolutions drill and ran it in 9.37 clean with my duty gun at 5 yards. Then finished the day with 10 rounds 10 yards at a 1” circle with some cci green tag out of the taurus shooting as soon as the dot settled. Sitting at about 850 rounds through it now. Ruger LCR .22. Trigger time, more learning the platform, learn where I am weak, and try different ammo. I shot: Winchester bulk, Remington Golden Bullet, Federal bulk, CCI Mini Mag, Federal Punch. Results as expected: cheap bulk ammo weak and dirty, expensive stuff better and less dirty. Shooting indoors, learned Punch has a lot of muzzle flash. Shooting a cylinder with both Punch and Winchester made it evident Punch has more… punch, tho it's still a .22. Punch most accurate, tho everything was acceptable enough. Going forward, I'll use bulk for practice as it's good enough. Groups at 15+ yards I'll lean on MiniMag or Punch. Punch for carry. Keep the gun clean. Learned the gun shoots low. I tried different ammo, distances, same result. If I uptick the front sight post slightly things go where I want them; which is cool since that's how I'm wanting to present the gun. Still, the sights were a bit blurry (my glasses focal length) and of course they are snub-sights so they're poor. I would love someone with better eyesight than me to shoot and see. I also want to do some group shooting outdoors in better light and see how my eyes fare. All in all I can be serviceable, I just need to spend more time learning the finer points of the POA vs. POI on this gun. I shot a bunch of groups, Dot Torture at 3 and 5 yards (3 I just shot and cleaned it, 5 I worried too much about POA vs POI and didn't clean it), F.A.S.T, 5^5. I couldn't draw, so would start from position 3. Instead of reloads I would open, spin, close the cylinder, pressing off shots until I the proper number of bangs occurred (ball-and-dummy is so easy with a revolver). I need DTFAH practice, and more trigger time. I didn't choose to shoot an LCR .22; I was pushed into it because of my wrist problems. The more I use it the more I love it. Took out my new to me glock 19 summer special replaced the apex trigger shoe with a Glock 17 trigger and bar and blacked out the rear night sight. Started off good but threw 2 with my left hand and ended with a 48/50. Then ran a B8 at 25 yards and shot like crap. Really dislike fat front sights.
