Ground Effect is a key factor in the motorsport industry because it allows to increase "a lot" the Downforce generation with "a small" Drag change. Downforce is important in racing cars because it allows to increase the vertical load on the tyres (which in turn means more grip from the tyres) without increasing the mass of the car. If we imagine a simple symmetric geometry, with no angle of attack, flying at a distance from the ground the Lift generated is zero because the velocity / pressure field on the "top & bottom" of the geometry is same due to the nature of the problem. If we want to generate Lift, we need to break the "top & bottom" flow field symmetry. As with the first NSX-R, weight reduction was the primary focus for performance enhancement. The NSX-R was again based on the coupé, due to its lighter weight and more rigid construction. Carbon fibre was used to a large extent throughout the body components to reduce weight, including a larger and more aggressive rear spoiler, vented hood and deck lid. The vented hood was said to be the largest one-piece carbon-fiber hood used on a production road car. Additionally, the original NSX-R’s weight reduction techniques were repeated, including deletion of the audio system, sound insulation and air conditioning. Furthermore, the power steering was removed. A single-pane rear divider was again used, as were Recaro carbon-kevlar racing seats. Splitter part 2... With the origin stylish bumper having the typical raised centre profile and the plywood splitter doing it's job by being flat I would be left with a gap in this area... I knew I wanted to run an air dam but also wanted this to be something to add geometric profile to the front of the car to tie in with the aggressive features on the remainder of the overall aero package. Again in fusion 360 I extruded a profile that both bridged the gap and gave me the profile I imagined when I first imagined the car complete. This was printed on pla to ensure fit and any required changes and will now be moulded in carbon fibre to tie into the splitter itself. There are more additions to be made in the form of winglets and canards considering the complex profile I am happy with the result. The introduction of the aerodynamic profile on the edge allowed to avoid detachment and significantly improved the efficiency of the entire RW 🌪. 3️⃣. Integration of the aero package A key aspect of the design of a vehicle's aerodynamics is the knowledge of the effect of individual components on each other. Zoptymalizowanie przepływu na krawędzi natarcia endplate. Wprowadzenie profilu aerodynamicznego pozwoliło uniknąć oderwania w tej części oraz znacznie poprawiło efektywność całego tylnego skrzydła 🌪. 3️⃣. Integracja pakietu aerodynamicznego Kluczowym aspektem projektowania aerodynamiki pojazdu jest znajomość wpływu poszczególnych elementów na pozostałe. Introducing our signature wing end plates nicknamed “Fusilli”. Just like the pasta… to make you fasta. It improves the performance of our wings by increasing the downforce numbers by 12%, while lowering the drag by 8%. This was achieved by designing an endplate shape that helps high pressure flow on top the airfoil and creating a wider low pressure area at the bottom. Countless hours of CFD went into the design to combine function and form.
