Artist Dorothy Varian was born #OnThisDay in 1895! 🎂 We are honored to have Varian’s “Portrait of Eugenie” on view on our second floor. Begin planning your visit at okcmoa.com/buytickets ABOUT THE PAINTING As the Great Depression advanced in the early 1930s, Varian, like so many artists of her generation, was able to continue working from the subsidy provided by the Federal Art Project. Unfortunately, most of her work from that time has been lost. A rare exception is her “Portrait of Eugenie” that depicts her friend, Eugenie Gershoy, a Ukrainian immigrant who was also an accomplished painter and sculptor.
