You got it all prepared; hot water for coffee and tea, bananas and prepped oatmeal for lunch, snacks within a hands reach.... but with a DD every half a mile or so, it's hard to ignore. 🥾 C L I F F W A L K 🥾 at Newport, Rhode Island. This 3.5 mile walk takes you along the coast of Newport - quite literally! Some nice pathways, some pebbles, some rocks, some sand... it all leads you through the backyards of very humble houses... The wind prohibited me from taking some Dushi shots-with-a-view but was very welcome because we underestimated the temperature 😅 We parked at the Fourty Steps so we did the 3.5 mile up and down again to get back. Highly recommend that, especially before sunset. The light reflecting on the sea, gardens and houses, makes it even more beautiful. #cliffwalknewport #dushilegolife
🦪 S E A F O O D 🦪 at sea. With a view. Day 1. After a long day of traveling and a very short night in NY - so excited, arrived at the hotel at 2am and although we agreed to sleep in, we were up & running realy early - we took a nice long lunch break during our road trip to Rhode Island. Away from the highway (we say 'weg van de snelweg') we ended up at the lovely @rileysbythesea near Stratford, with delicious seafood and super friendly staff. Along the way, we enjoyed the first signs of autumn, the architecture, the viewpoints, the (attraction) signs on the side of the road; who knows the submarine capital of the world? Anyone? ☆ B L O O PO E R S ☆ Friday 13th feels like the right day to share those moments where the camera captured Dushi and mine's less fortunate moments when posing for what have could been a great shot 😂 First, panama boulevard. Dushi fell all the way down into the concrete breakwaters and I had to dig him up from the trash... Second, Dushi tried to downhill in the 'tiefschnee' but a sudden gust of wind put him face down... luckily minifigs keep smiling, even then! Third, was very illustrative of my luck on the mountain bike during our trip in Belgium. The paths (or here, the asphalt) turned out to be next level balance exercises! Finally, trying to pose when Dushi took you to the kite spot due to good winds was not a good plan to begin with... sandblasted and kite parts all over the place, covert in salt. 🙆♀️ W H A T D O Y O U D O 🙆♀️ to relax? That was a question we asked each other last Friday when I was having sushi with the girls. 'Crash on the couch and do nothing' said the busy mom of two. 'Put little diamonds in their place just like those iron beads when we were kids' said the more-than-full-time-working friend. And me? I like to listen to books, finish coloring pages for adults... and since off today I like to build lego sets! I never had a building set, I buy single pieces and those series-bags. Every once in a while I try to 'moc' something, just to discover (again) I have almost no bricks to build a couch. Or diamond-frame-representative. Only a quite respectable amount of accessories. Now I've build this Lego Architecture set, I'm hooked. Not just because of the joy of building for it self but in this particular set mainly the joy of good memories of an awesome trip! ♡ S H E K N O W S N O A G E ♡ the moment I saw this minifigure in series 19, I knew it: this is my mom. She turns 58 next week. Just a single grey hair. She discovered the #mountainbike some ten years ago but last year she took it to the next level (and beyond). She joined a club, took (master)classes, a trainer-training and... soon she will start giving lessons at the club! She surprised me during our vacation in Bonair with her skills, she jumped effortless over a hole in the road and skillfully descended from rocky parts. She is fearless and sees no limitation in her age. More then once I wake up to a photo im my whats app from her, covered in mud, shining next to a obstacle she overcame. My mom is the living proof in all that she does that no matter your gender, or age, you can do what you want. Just put your mind to it and ignore the protest of the people that don't support you and are limited by their ideas. ☆ O T R A B A N D A 1/2☆ last Friday a friend and I took a guided tour through a neighbourhood of Willemstad, called #otrabanda with @dushiwalkscuracao . Otrabanda means 'the other side' or, in this case, 'the other bank' because seen from from the city centre (Punda), this part of town is at the opposite bank of the Annabay. Once wealthy and prosperous, now mostly decayed, faded glory and the residents are poor. Some streets are better not to be visited on your own. Luckily for us there is Shirley who invests time, money and goods with great dedication and therefore is able to take outsiders to see the historical buildings, murals telling the history and proud of the neighbourhood and quite a few #kodakmoment locations. This all accompanied with background stories told by Shirley as colorfull as the buildings and paintings themselves. Because, don't get fooled: the people may not be rich but are certainly not without talent! It was -25°c and after creating this setting and taking some pictures without gloves, I could hardly feel my fingertips anymore. At the beginning of the 19th century, all houses were white. An eye doctor wondered why so many people had trouble seeing sharp. He came up with the hypothesis that the reflection of the bright sunlight on the white houses had a blinding effect. He recommended the government to paint every building in a non-blinding color. The government took it a step further: it became law to paint your house in any color but white. Nowadays it ain't law anymore but painting your house in any shade of the colors of the rainbow is tradition. At that time Curaçao was a Dutch colony. Now it is an independent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. At dia di bandera the people decorate their car, houses and themselves in the colours of the flag: bright yellow and blue! Just like Dushi in this photo.
