Happy Gotcha Day to this absolute crazy creature 🐶🤪😍🥰❤️ Who knew that this past year would be full of quite so many challenges for us both. It’s definitely up there with the most heart wrenching, most frightening, most relentless & most grief stricken year of my life so far. Yet this gorgeous canine has literally made me smile every single day with her loopiness & her love. Nellie is a dog with big emotions (aka “reactive”) & she came to me with a lot of past trauma 💔 Every day she reminds me that we have the capacity to feel a plethora of emotions at the same time. That our hearts are big enough to feel deep sorrow alongside joy, that we can feel trapped yet simultaneously feel immense gratitude, that we can be afraid but also find a sense of safety. In fact, making room for, inviting in & allowing all our emotions, rather than judging which ones are deemed applicable, has been a game changer for me. It has led me to a level of acceptance which, rather than feeling like giving in, actually feels empowering & freeing. It is quite symbolic that as I write this, I have spent another day averting an Adrenal Crisis & have had to administer my emergency injection twice. Hungrig und verwirrt haben wir diese frisch ausgesetzte Seele, direkt an der Grenze von Kroatien nach Serbien gefunden… 💔 Er lief beim Grenzübergang verwirrt hin und her als würde er seine Familie suchen. Schnell hat er Zuflucht bei uns gefunden aber ich spürte das er zu große Angst hatte, näher zu kommen. Wir hielten direkt dort an und versorgten ihn erstmal mit Futter und Wasser. Das war meine persönlich erste Begegnung mit einem „straßenhunde“ obwohl ich diesen kleinen Schatz ungern so bezeichnen möchte. CARE AND CONFUSION 😕 This is Snow White, four years ago, she was one of the hardest dogs to capture and sterilise, but today she is a successful street dog or should I say, TOO successful! The irony is that there are now so many locals leaving out food, and then seasonal tourists doing the same, that we are seeing obese street dogs in some of the holiday towns, here in Mexico! Many of my local dogs are now more likely to die of heart attacks or organ failure, than starvation! This is just a cautious tale: if you are on holiday and want to help, rather than paying for food, there are many charities desperate for money to keep rolling out their spay and neuter campaigns. Meet our beautiful Cookie!!! Cookie has a story for you today!! Happy Friday 🤣 Cookie was rescued from the streets after apparently her owner died leaving her to fend for herself, not spayed she was pregnant and brought to us with 3 puppies. (6th March)Cookie was very anemic and still nursing the pups who were in bad shape so we did not spay her at the time. Very soon her 2 pups came down with parvo virus and we had to quarantine and treat everyone. Parvo usually kills, but Cookie and her pups made it. Needless to say we still didn’t spay her because she has poor immune system. As we went to schedule her for spaying once she was doing well we noticed that Cookie was quite PLUMP!!! Hmm so we took her to the clinic and guess what!?!! She’s going to be a mama AGAIN. We don’t have any Intact males in the shelter so this happened before she arrived. This is a first time for us and hopefully the last but we are expecting 6-8 puppies from mama Cookie in the next week or 2. We are fully supporting her with nutrition and vitamins and have created a nice kennel for her but we would LOVE for cookie to find a foster home to give birth in. She is the most adorable girl! She is so sweet and such a love. She gets along well with everyone and when you spend time with her you will just adore her also. We would fully support her and the puppies! Ps her owner was French so we believe she understands French! Otherwise watch this space for our incoming litter. We are using some treats that have been donated and beds and towels - again making us so thankful for the support we receive. Little Lumi is all grown up and in a home of her own 🥰 Lumi (shelter name Pirol) entered the Soi Dog shelter as a six-week-old pup in 2022. Her feeder had called us for help after noticing that Lumi was pale and vomiting. Our vets soon diagnosed Lumi with parvovirus, a disease that’s often deadly in youngsters like her. With intensive treatment, fortunately she pulled through. 🙌 Since then, life has only gotten better and better for Lumi. In June last year, she joined our wonderful partner rescue @thebarkinglotrescue in California, USA 🇺🇸 and soon found her family! Here’s what her mum has to say about this small but mighty soi dog: "I wasn’t supposed to get a dog, but as soon as I saw Lumi, I fell in love, and two days later I went back to pick her up to bring her home to Venice Beach in LA. She has been so brave since the beginning and absolutely loves going to the beach, chasing balls, playing with her friends, and cuddling on the couch. She was very unsure about our apartment at first but is slowly warming up more every day. She is an adventurous girl on walks who wants to say hi to every person, dog, and squirrel we meet. She is the biggest cuddle bug and lap dog, and has gotten homemade sweaters sent in the mail from her grandma in Norway for the cold weather in LA lol. She loves playing with her friends, and her size does not stop her from beating her German Shepherd friends’ butt. She especially loves being with her best friend/neighbor/boyfriend Timmi, who happens to be a Soi Dog alumni from 2017 (previously Alabama). We were finally able to have a memorial for our sweet Momma dog. Our neighbor friends got a beautiful tree that we planted in her memory along with her ashes. We miss her so much. She’ll always be home. Forevers. 🩷
