You definitely feel like you are getting what you pay for at Ruby’s. Not to mention the service is fantastic. 🕴️We really enjoyed chatting with our server Michael, he has been with Ruby’s for 25 years and was super knowledgeable and friendly! 📸Steak Collinsworth- 8 oz filet, king crab, asparagus, bordelaise, béarnaise. One of their more popular steak specials, and for good reason. So flavorful and layered. 📸Mussels and Clams-white wine and garlic with beautiful tomatos and bread to soak up that sauce. A great appetizer and way to start. The sauce isn’t overpowering and allows the fresh seafood to shine through. Just enough smokiness from the Calabrian chili. 📸The Freddie salad- a Ruby’s classic-tomatos, bacon, house made buttermilk ranch-great. 📸Carrot Cake- simply the best carrot cake I’ve ever had. We had this last year @jeffrubysprecinct and had to get it again. ❌📸: Wine, table side bread(white and salted rye), Mac and cheese side. The bread is awesome, wine selection is great, and the Mac and cheese is some of the best I’ve had. 🧾Overall, Jeff Ruby’s is an awesome experience. It was also more recently Dear Butchery steakhouse. It’s been Al Posto for a little over a year(March 2023), and it was great! 🍥The interior design is among the coolest of anywhere I’ve been- the high ceilings, the wall art, the bar, the wall of wine bottles, and of course the famous bank vault with tables inside of it! 📸Food: 🥔I got the Gnocci alla Marcella, and it was maybe the best Gnocci I’ve ever had. While usually I can’t eat an entire serving of Gnocci because it’s typically so rich, this was light and fluffy and not as dense as a lot of the Gnocci I’ve had. I had also never had Gnocci without a cheese or cream based sauce, and the vodka sauce and pea was fantastic! ❌📸Emily and my dad got the linguini alla flora, a lemon cream and Parmesan based pasta that was also really good. 🍅We also enjoyed a very fresh Panzanella salad- tomato and sourdough with vinaigrette, and some apps(meatballs and Mancini). 📊The apps were good, the salad and pasta were great! Tucked away in Landen(right between Loveland and Mason) off of Montgomery rd and Columbia rd right near 22, a suburban staple whenever I go see my parents in Loveland. 📸Pictured here is the Carnitas pork dish with rice and beans. So simple and so good. I describe Leon’s like this: picture your typical big-menu mexican spot in your home town. Now make it about 20% fresher and better. That’s Leon’s. No frills, no trendy bullshit. Just really good Mexican food at a good price. 🔥 💃The table-side salsa at Leon’s is the best I’ve ever had. So fresh with a nice kick of heat. 🍣 @mrsushi.clifton is also one of Emily and my Go-to’s for a quick weeknight meal. 📈Is it the greatest sushi in the world? Is it high quality sashimi? Is it winning awards? No. BUT, It’s a very solid half price sushi place right off UC’s campus that always leaves me and Emily really full for under $40. I ordered 5 rolls, yes FIVE, and the bill was like $39. ⚜️🌿🍤 @noliacincinnati ‼️‼️ 🔥I’ve been hearing amazing things about Nolia for months, and their 2023 James Beard award only made me more excited to give chef Jeffery Harris’ New Orleans-inspired concept a try. 🔭 You walk in, and are greeted with a small and intimate dining area. The kitchen is right in the dining area, which only seats around 30 people, creating a very unique experience. We actually ate at the bar, which was also a very cozy part of the restaurant. 🍸We started with some great cocktails 🍤We then opted for the shrimp bisque with cornbread dressing and pickled mirliton , which was easily the best bisque I’ve ever had- spicy, creamy, savory, “everything you’d want in a bisque”, as our great bartender and conversation partner Scott put it. 📸Entrees: 🦆the duck leg-beautifully cooked with a nice satsuma glaze and an au jus sauce 🫘the leeks and cassoulet, which was incredible. How a chef is able to make white beans and leeks of all things taste so good must be partly magical. 🫛we also split the Ewo Riro, an African inspired black eyed peas dish that had some great heat and sweetness that balanced nicely. 🍮 We had to get dessert, and opted for the brown sugar cinnamon bread pudding. Soft, warm, perfect dessert. 📊Nolia is one of the more hyped spots in Cincinnati, and after visiting last night I believe it’s for good reason. The vibes are awesome, beautifully decorated interior down to the details like the custom coasters and the cool wallpaper in the bathroom. They serve up Mediterranean and Israeli inspired breakfast and lunch that is super fresh, unique, and certified kosher. 🔥Emily and I enjoyed a Valentine’s Day brunch and tried some of their awesome fresh dishes: 🥯I got the NJB(enedict) which was a mix of traditional eggs Benedict and a bagel with cream cheese and lox. The combo of the fresh sesame seed bagel with cream cheese and lox along with the egg and hollandaise sauce was perfect. 🍅Emily had the shakshuka, which is a Mediterranean dish with poached eggs inside a super flavorful tomato based sauce with peppers. Served with a mini challah roll. A savory fan’s delight. 🥑We also split some of the freshest guac we’d ever had and some fruit. 🎄🎅🏻 Christmas 2023: Reverse Seared Steaks at home 🥩I’ll take you through how I cooked the best steaks I’ve ever made at home and some of the best steaks I’ve ever had. -My parents called these restaurant quality and “as good as they’ve had” 📸Moving through the pictures I’ll show the steps: 1. Got some great NY strips @costco -shoutout to Costco for having awesome quality meat at good prices 2- decided on the reverse sear technique. For a strip that was this thick, I thought the reverse sear would cook it most evenly and allow for me to control the temp and not mess up these beautiful steaks. After letting sit at room temp for 10-15 min and patting dry, I added Salt and pepper and put the steaks on a wire rack in the oven at 275° for around 32-33 min. I checked the internal temp after 20 min and then every 5 min until they were about 10-15° below what I wanted my final cook temp(135°-140°ish for medium rare-medium, so pulled at around 120-125°) 3. After pulling the steaks from the oven, I patted them dry and let them rest for about 10 min. Then I re salted and peppered them and threw them in a ripping hot stainless steel pan on high heat. This smoked up quite a bit and the house may or may not have looked like Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson had a field day. However, the sear was fantastic. Great crust while keeping the inside nice and pink. I seared them for about 90sec each side and basted with butter and garlic and rosemary. 4. Overall, one of the best steaks I’ve ever had and by FAR the best steak I’ve ever made at home. The crust, the temp, the beautifully rendered fat, all allowed the quality of meat to shine through. It was my first time trying the reverse-sear method, won’t be my last! 📊Comment if you like the at-home cooking stuff. 🔥🍕 Catch a Fire Pizza @catchafirepizza 📍Blue Ash, OH 🗣️ This account is built around trying new places, and pizza is the category in which I’m most scrutinizing and try to uphold some semblance of a ranking system. Was happy to try @catchafirepizza in Blue Ash, which had been on my list for a while. 🍽️We tried the Caesar salad, reggae ranch salad, and 2 pizzas: a large classic pepperoni, and a small Mellow Mood pizza(crème fraiche, roasted garlic, four cheeses, goat cheese, hot honey). We also enjoyed some beers from their expansive draft list. 📊My standard for Cincinnati pizza sit-down establishments is always as follows: Dewey’s pizza is an 8.0/10 for all things considered. This is factoring in pizza, salads/sides, ease of locations, and ambiance of restaurants+service. It is always solid, and you know you can expect high quality pizza and salads every time. But it never reaches the heights of a Taglio, St. Francis or Strong’s Brick Oven. 📈With that being said, I would put Catch a Fire right around an 8/10, landing them in my top 5-6 pizza places in Cincinnati. The pizza itself is great: thin, crispy, with that classic wood fired char. Toppings are good, and the dough and crust is really where they shine. A good amount of oil, and the pies came out piping hot. Some flop at the ends but overall good structural integrity. The salads were not as good as Dewey’s, but the pizza was slightly better. 🏅Catch a Fire lands itself right around Dewey’s and Taft’s Brewporium on my Cincy Pizza list, right around that #4-6 spot on a top 10 list. Good service, great pizza and beer selection. Give them a shot in Blue Ash or @madtreetaproom in Oakley. A part of the growing trend of food halls around Cincinnati, The Gatherall has lots of options of all different kinds of food, including Vietnamese, bbq, Mexican, Colombian, Korean, etc. 📊I tried @phat.banh.mi and really liked their pork bahn mi sandwich. Super flavorful marinated pork with all of the accoutrements. Had to try the shrimp chips too and they were very interesting. 🔥Finally got to try @sottocincy! 🫶My only concern for this place was that the hype might have created unrealistic expectations, and I can say that was not at all an issue. I see why it’s one of the best rated spots in Cincy and one of the hardest reservations to land. 🕯️The ambiance is awesome. It just feels like the place to be. Classy and cool. Dark and cozy. The perfect place to spend a cold winter evening with an amazing date(@energy.with.emily❤️). 🎖️Fantastic service and attention to detail. Great wine and cocktail options. One example of the service: when Emily got up to use the restroom and put her napkin on the table, our waiter walked last and noticed, and quickly and nimbly re-folded her napkin into a perfect little triangle before she returned. Little things like that may seem insignificant but can really separate a place, and it’s no wonder why Sotto has the reputation they do. 📊The Food: 🥗🥖We started with the fettunta bread and black kale Caesar. The Caesar was acidic and light, with fresh Parmesan and toasted breadcrumbs for some texture in every bite. The bread was warm, garlicky and crispy. So good. 🍝Next was our pasta: I had to try their famous short rib cappellacci. It was perfectly balanced with the tender short rib and the light ricotta. A top tier pasta dish I’ve had in Cincinnati for sure that is only rivaled by a few others (Pepp and Delores limone, Rodi lasagna, Rosie’s vodka rigatoni if you were wondering). Emily got the cacio e pepe, which was classic, simple and really really good. 🍩For dessert we had to try their famous powdered sugar covered ricotta doughnuts with sauces(chocolate, caramel, pistachio). They’ve made great renovations and changes over the years to accommodate more seating and enhance the relaxed vacation-esque vibe they’ve curated for 30+ years. 🫶I have been going here since I was a kid and it will always hold a special place in my heart. From the free peanuts and popcorn, to friends working here in high school, to hearing my mom order the same thing every time, Silver Spring House always evokes a sense of familiarity and comfort. 📈Silver Spring House also represents growth: having gone from the kid who used to order nothing but chicken tenders to now being in my twenties and returning here with my parents for a half chicken and a draft beer, it’s a full circle moment that represents family and growing up. There’s something beautiful in the simplicity of a great diner. Unpretentious and cozy. I love Mt Adams and was glad to finally give them a try and support a new place! 📖As for the deals, I tried: 🔴The Shiesty(first pic). Tomato sauce, motz, pepperoni, ricotta stuffed peppadew peppers, Mike’s hot honey. This was very very good. The ricotta filled peppers was something I hadn’t tried and really enjoyed. The pepperoni and hot honey combo is undefeated. This one was my favorite for sure. ⚫️The Garden of Eden(second pic). This was their veggie pie, with peppers, onion, black olives, mushroom and sun dried tomatoes. Also very good! 📊Overall, really enjoyed Your Mom’s Pizzeria. Good vibes and good pies. Love them or hate them, they are OG’s here in Cincinnati, and when talking about Cincinnati’s growing pizza scene, you can’t leave LaRosa’s out of that conversation. 📕Serving up pies, pastas and sides since Buddy LaRosa opened up that first shop on the West Side of Cincinnati in 1954, LaRosa’s has grown to have 60+ locations around the tri-state and is up there with Skyline Chili and Montgomery Inn when it comes to most well-known Cincy restaurant institutions. 🍕As I mentioned before, LaRosa’s pizza can be polarizing. Some love it. Some hate it. 🗣️ I personally like it! It’s different. It’s unique. It is floppy. It is doughy. It falls apart sometimes. The sauce is sweet. The toppings may be on top of the cheese or under the cheese. ⛓️But in my opinion, I’m taking LaRosa’s over any other chain any day of the week. I say chain because In 2023 with 60+ locations, that’s what LaRosa’s is, a chain. A local chain. A very solid chain in my opinion. 🎃Some visits this month to some of my familiar favorites! 🍕St. Francis Apizza: simply the best pizza in Cincinnati @stfrancisapizza. Enough said. 🍔Krueger’s tavern: returned for the second time and tried a bunch at @kruegerstavern last weekend and it was great! 🛥️Northside Yacht Club🔥 @northside_yacht_club ⚓️NS YC had been on my list for a while since coming across them on IG over the summer and I was glad to check them out last night with some Cincy late October 70 degree weather. Super awesome vibe inside that I neglected to take pictures of, but super eclectic and fun with the yacht club theme. The patio was the star of the place, with trees overhanging the picnic tables creating an atmosphere where you feel like you’re on vacation. Great big bar on the outside as well. 📊Food wise, we tried the Birria grilled cheese and fries which was the current special, as well as the smoked wings(half classic Buffalo and half garlic Parmesan). Starting with the grilled cheese, I really enjoyed it. The consommé was great for dipping and paired great with the slow roasted Birria meat and Oaxaca cheese. The fries reminded me of penn station and were very good. ⭐️The stars of the night were the smoked wings. Some of the best wings I’ve had in Cincinnati. Fall off the bone tender, Smokey, great quality chicken. The sauces were both awesome. And, great homemade chunky blue cheese was a perfect accompaniment. ‼️Overall, really enjoyed NS YC and will definitely be back! This is an absolute hidden gem of Cincinnati and those who have been know exactly what I mean. I first tried Al Madina years ago when I first moved into a house my 2nd year of college. I had walked past it a million times going to class, as it’s right across from the Clifton Kroger(which deserves a post of its own😂). Ever since I wandered in, it’s been my go-to lunch or dinner spot around campus. It has also served as my introduction to middle eastern food, which I now realize I have quite the taste for. 📊Chicken or Meat Shawarma is where we start the show. Sliced fresh off of rotating pillars of meat, then pile it high on a fresh made pita or on a platter with yellow rice or potatoes. The shawarma wraps include your choice of chicken or beef, tomato, lettuce, pickle, and spicy sauce as well as garlic sauce. I normally opt for the perfect cubed potatoes and garlic sauce for my side, as well as a small salad with a nice raspberry vinaigrette. ⛽️It is all delicious. The pictures truly can’t do this place justice, you have to try it for yourself. 🤟Al Madina has never once done me wrong. 🇨🇺Amador Cuban @amadorcuban 🌆Checked out Amador Thursday night with some friends and really enjoyed everything we had. With how much it’s been built up, The Levee still doesn’t have a ton of great restaurant options in my opinion, with a lot of chains and places that don’t blow me away. I rarely go over to the Levee, with most of my favorite restaurants over the water in KY residing in Covington and for the Newport spots, further down on Monmouth from the Levee. I know more is being added to Newport, with a project ongoing that will add an Oakley Kitchen’esque food hall soon. 🫡With all this being said, @amadorcuban is my favorite restaurant on The Levee, and one of my favorites in Newport, right up there with La Mexicana and Strong’s Brick Oven. 🍖We started with the ham croquetas, which were unique, savory and light. Served with two great dipping sauces, it was a great way to start. Think mozzarella stick but with seasoned ham inside rather than cheese. Yum. 🥩I ordered the Pan Con bistec sandwich: shaved steak, swiss cheese, crispy potato sticks, and a great blend of spices. It was very good, super savory, nicely marinaded steak and unlike a lot of steak sandwiches, nice and juicy. 🍌I got the Maduros for my side, which were sweet plantains that were to die for. Probably the best thing I ate all night. 📊Overall, Amador was a great time. Cool vibe inside the restaurant, very very good food, nice service and big entree portions for the prices. The sides are all a la carte, but reasonably priced. 🥘Ajeet India and Nepali cuisine- @cliftongaslightdistrict 🍚This was my first time sitting down and fully experiencing Indian food, and Ajeet did not disappoint. I tried the Lamb biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, and Vegetable pakora. Everything was very flavorful and large portions that made it enough for leftovers! 🇮🇳Ajeet Indian clearly makes a killing on takeout and mobile orders, as we saw countless people stop in to pick up food while we dined in.
