When I’m not getting my usual herbal jelly milk tea I’m diggin this musco wow milk. I was afraid for two reasons to get this 1) you cannot control the sugar content and 2) it has “milk”😳 The caramelized brown sugar boba was just the right amount of sweetness and the milk is actually lactose free- perf annnd the softest bubbles. Today I got the chance to try a sneak peak of @vgrestaurant’s @leburgerweek feature their “toba burger”- a name so uncomplicated but there’s definitely more to this burger than it’s name. The moist patty is made with inhouse smoked wagyu (yes wagyu!) combined with a black angus beef grind as well as Serrano spiked “palmers” brisket tips, you can NEVER go wrong with caramelized onions, @nonsuchbeer infused mustard, pickled nectarine (almost like a marmalade - I like this!), @bothwellcheese muenster cheese all served between a pillowy caraway sourdough bun from @gunnsbakery. It’s so awesome how almost all the parts of this burger is locally sourced too! You can find the @vgrestaurant inside @fairmontwinnipeg. This burger is served with their in house made berry sweet tea compliments this burger so well- so light, refreshing and the right amount of sweetness. Two words, Ethiopian Food🇪🇹 If you’ve ever had it, it’s an experience within itself. Always as good as the first time. Injera(sour fermented flatbread) is a staple amongst their dishes. Almost everything is eaten with it🥙 It’s just a world of flavours and spices- Ethiopian cuisine can both suit a meat eaters or non meat eaters lifestyle either way😋 Here’s our go to when we visit: 1. Meat combo: consists of chicken and beef stews, house made cottage cheese + salad and veggies of the day🍗 2. Veggie combo: spiced red lentils, green lentil salad, split pea stew, beets, cabbage, potatoes and house salad combo🥬 3. Basque cheesecake. I’ve only ever heard of them from @lulu___eats (check her out if you haven’t already) but take your New York style cheesecake but bake it at a high temperature until burnt and cracked🤤 Recently I ordered some basque cheesecakes from @jennybakesss. To my surprise they weren’t very sweet, not to dense or heavy but baked fresh and creamy. I tried the classic, lotus biscoff cookie butter and brownie crust. My favourite had to be the classic and the cookie butter. Another day, another ice cream shop🍦 Finally made it into @feteicecreamcoffee and I was not disappointed. From the service to the flavours👅 From top, bottom to back we got the dairy free London fog, strawberry rhubarb crumble and hiding in the back is the salted caramel crunch. I enjoyed all the flavors but the salted caramel crunch stood out to me the most- salted caramel swirl, crunchy caramel covered saltines, topped with sea salt (love the taste of the home style caramel)🤩 . . Oddly it was my very first time at @mingsbakery and I’ve heard good things about their various buns & pastries. I’m not a fan of too much filling in my buns so I opted for plain pineapple buns, custard buns and sugar buns. Boy are they fluffy + big🤩 Right now if you spend $15 on their various buns you get a free small size of their new taho (silken tofu, sugar syrup and sago). I’ve been obsessed lately with using @fresh_forage micro-greens on top of almost everything from dishes to cocktails. If you ever had salmon oshi aburi style from Miku then you know there’s nothing else quite like it. My first aburi experience happened to be at the Miku in Vancouver. Aburi translates to “flame seared” while oshi represents the rectangular pressed shape it takes🍣 If you’re looking for aburi similar to Miku’s @yuuwpg has got you covered! (As mentioned by @hungryinwpg post a little bird confirmed that the chef here used to work at Miku). Aside from a little hiccup - it was excellent aburi. We had their ebi + salmon aburi. Hope everyone is having a mango-nificient Saturday🥭 Here I whipped up one of my favourite recipes for mango pudding - I made two versions one with whipping cream and one with coconut milk. Both yielded very creamy results! What a matcha made in heaven. Here’s another trend we’ve been seeing lately- Dalgona matcha ☕️ . . I was inspired by @nom_life and dalgona talks with @hungryinwpg and tried the matcha dalgona. I adjusted the recipe I found from @healthy_foodieph YouTube channel. I personally don’t like too sweet so I used @healthy_foodieph exact recipe but instead I opted for 1/4c sugar + 1/4c of water instead of 1/2c to mix into my soft peaked egg whites and I opted for 2 tsp of matcha powder instead of 3 tsp as I don’t like an over powering matcha flavor. This matcha version is also good for non coffee drinkers. It was my VERY first time at @littleboneswings the other day and boy it didn’t disappoint🍗 First of all they have over 75+ flavors, they’re not dinky chicken wings and they’re cooked to a perfect crisp without overpowering batter. Finally got to check off brunch at @localgarryst ☑️ . . 1) braised beef + bacon hash - loved how the shredded hash browns still came out crisp by the time it made it to the table, does anyone else judge their brunch this way? 😌 plus I love potatoes 2) chicken + waffles - flavourful, crisp, hot honey southern style fried chicken served with slaw and a fresh waffle underneath 🍗 (ps I love the color of these plates 🥰) . . Finally stopped by @comingteabeveragebar and I must say I love the colours of their decor, just like my logo it’s black and gold ✨ As a naturally indecisive person who also happens to love watermelon, I went with the “true love”. It’s a watermelon slush with cheese foam🍉 the cheese foam was really good however I do wish there was a bit more foam and with 30% sugar the slush to me was perfect! (P.s. These drinks are to-TEA-lly my type🥤 I was fortunate to get to try out some of @inchawinnipeg’s new drink series. Being a creature of a milk tea/brown sugar habit I wasn’t sure if I’d learn to like anything else ☕️ . . From left to right: 1. #throwbackthursday to our visit to the popular Nobu in Honolulu 🏝 Of the 9 dishes dishes we had, these two were among my favourites: 1. Ahi uni miso truffle - big eye tuna, Japanese uni, truffle miso, truffle powder (white crumble), shiso and sudachi citrus. All blended so well so good! 2. New style scallop - served in hot sesame olive oil, yuzu soy, topped with julienned ginger, chives and sesame seeds. I absolutely love scallops so this was my jam 😋 From service, presentation to flavour- you’ll get it all here. Having some Hawaii withdrawals today so we are reminiscing about @yogurstory- shoutout to @tummmytales for this recommendation😋 We obviously had their popular ube pancakes- made with Okinawan sweet potatoe and smothered in an ube coconut sauce. If you love ube and anything to do with it- this ones for you 😋 Secondly, we shared the red carpet- red velvet waffle with taro cream cheese and chocolate sauce. The taro Cream cheese was a nice light touch not too heavy on their freshly made waffles🤤 . . We decided to play restaurant roulette at the @intlmktplace and stumbled across @herringbonewaikiki 🏝 We enjoyed their fresh oysters, an amazing yellowtail crudo (I’ll need to post about this later) but what we really enjoyed was their buffalo octopus. The octopus is slow braised for 6 hours then flash fried. Basically think of your typical “buffalo chicken” but it’s a buffalo style octopus. I wanted to know what the fuss was all about- we finally popped into the popular @leonardsbakeryhawaii to pick up some malasadas and malasada puffs, always made fresh to order 🍩 A malasada is basically a Portuguese deep fried yeast donut and the malasada puffs are stuffed with fillings with flavours such as (seen here top to bottom) 🥥haupia (coconut), 🍓strawberry, pumpkin🎃 etc. Deep fried golden and very fluffy I give it that- but I very much enjoyed just their plain malasada sprinkled with cinnamon sugar over the malasada puffs. With temperatures always in the 30s, cool treats are a must🍦. We stopped by @thrillshnl and tried their ube soft serve. Comes with two free toppings so you know we had to get pillows and Reese pieces cereal. It had a faint ube flavor but wasn’t super sweet! Of course when in Hawaii, poke is a must 🐟 We stopped by the well known @ono.seafood also recommended by many including @tummmytales 🐷. We got a combined bowl, half ahi tuna and half spicy salmon.
