Curran stepping away from Whelen Cadillac DPi. Eric Curran will not run in January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona in Whelen Engineering Racing’s Cadillac DPi-V.R, ruling himself out of DPi competition in order to focus on plans off, and on track. The two-time IMSA Prototype champion had reduced to only Michelin Endurance Cup races in 2019. Curran initially had interest in being part of the team’s lineup for 2020 in the season-opener as a fourth driver. Felipe Albuquerque was already announced previously as Curran’s replacement as Endurance Cup driver after the team shut down operations on the No. 5 Cadillac DPi. Pipo Derani and Felipe Nasr will return as full-season drivers. Curran, 44, will not return, stating he wouldn’t enjoy running a one-off race. Curran has never won the Rolex 24 at Daytona, but has finished second in back-to-back seasons in 2018 and 2019. Curran helped the No. 31 team win the 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans in 2019. They also finished 7th in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.
