20 years ago the situation in Darfur forced us to turn South early into Cameroon to head down the west coast of Africa, one of the first overland groups to make that route work. It was a journey into the unknown with looming issues like how to cross the Congo river and the landmines in Angola. Erg Chigaga-Mauritania boarder After camping in the desert we joined back up with the coast of Morocco, we were met with beautiful coast lines and beaches perfect for a photo 😏 We stop at Dakhla to get some supplies and to have our 2nd alternator tested, as it was playing up, on our way we went passed multiple Land rover garages with parts everywhere, it was heaven everything you could think of, however they do know how to charge 😅 This was also our first covid test of the trip, before crossing into Mauritania.
This pesky little thing stopped us going to get our Christmas tree 🎄 yesterday. One new fuel cutout solenoid later and some tricky removal and re fitting and all is well….

Hosted by Ben Saunders, four explorers and adventurers (Hannah White, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Kenton Cool and Eric Loizeau) led young adventurers in competitions and activities to find the next generation of explorers. . After a couple of days of intense competition, 22 year old Alex Woodford won the competition and a bursary with the British Exploring Society. I wonder what she’s doing now, 8 years later..? . So the old turbo is out and the new one is in. Not a difficult job, but also not easy, old cars make it fun!! Thanks to Ben @blackpaw4x4 for sourcing the turbo for me. Hopefully not so smoky now, just the pipes to fit, change the oil and filter and see how it runs!!

All back together, new pipe work, underwing washer bottle, fan shroud, ally header tank and new oil cooler pipes… took a bit longer as the washer pump was broken so needed to wait for a new one, but now have space for the pre heater to fit where the old washer bottle was…
Another successful day fitting the under wing washer bottle to allow room for the pre heater, in place of the old square washer bottle.
New galvanised radiator surround, re tapped and new rubbers ready to go back in, old one even had a previous radiator bottom rusted and still stuck in it!!!
Doing a few jobs on our truck, New coolant pipes, new oil cooler pipes, new horns, new coolant reservoir and replacement screen washer bottle…. And some other bits from the long list!!!
