Our field trip “ Frolic w/ Friends” should be renamed to Frolic w/ Fiona. This little goof ball might be a low rider but she’s got hops. A fun fact: Fiona parkour’s. On the way to the car, she was so excited that she vaulted herself up onto the hood of a car ( not mine) as if to tell us she was ready for some fun. Those mighty little legs and stocky body can jump, tumble, ricochet, and bounce like a mountain goat. I’m sure she gets it from me. I was a gymnast and am known as the mountain goat in my hiking circles. When you’re short, you learn how to keep up by walking with a pep in your step. My mom was also 5 feet and walked as if she had rockets on her feet. On the occasions that we go for a run as a family, me and Fiona look pretty funny next to Keith with his longs legs. Often looks like he’s running in slow motion as Fiona and I chug along. Another of my happy places is watching Fiona frolic in nature, climb trees, stumble across boulders, all with a big dumb smile on her face. Today she showed off her parkour skills by shimming her body up a 6 foot tree trunk to give me a kiss. She leapt over several streams overestimating the length of her little body and crashing into the banks. She even foraged for mushrooms & then proudly displayed her findings. What she lacks in grace, she makes up for in spirit. They say pets and parents resemble each other. What do you think? Swung by for a socially distanced film interview - made possible by long range microphones, hand sanitiser, and golden rule of two people in the building. @sunshinecoastcouncil Gallery staff are getting things done before any lockdown to ensure 20th anniversary preparations can kick in one way or another (virtual if need be) come the August birth date of the @caloundraregionalgallery . Interestingly, this gallery building was once a library, constructed to border my Great Aunt Bid’s (Elizabeth Boyden née Skene) home which I visited as a kid (and where the current car park and proposed gallery is suggested to stand). Who knew I’d be invited years on to consult and envision the business plan for the conversion of this building into a ‘category a’ space (1996-1999) and implement such as Foundation Director and Curator for the years 2000-2006.
