Last Monday, Years 5 and 6 headed to Paddington Rec to participate in the School Games Mini Marathon. Our students didn’t just run a mile and participate in different relays at the Mini Marathon; they did it with a smile, resilience and determination, showcasing great team spirit and, above all, having a blast! 🥉🏆 Huge congratulations to our Year 5 pupils for the excellent teamwork! On Wednesday, Class 5 took part in the Wetherby Senior Maths Challenge against 8 different schools. Children used their problem-solving skills to answer a variety of mathematical questions in three rounds. First round was a logic problem where the students had 30mins to find a solution. Second round students had to work in smaller to groups to solve Maths problems, but each answer would lead into the next question. Third round was a relay where students again worked in small groups to answer questions, but their teammates could not start their next question until the previous question was answered. We came in third! They all enjoyed the challenge and demonstrated excellent maths knowledge. Congratulations to the Year 5 debating team for winning their heat in Forfar's inter-school debating competition at the end of last term! The debating topic was "Space exploration is a waste of money". The Park School participants were tasked to propose the motion and did a fantastic job of providing strong arguments which they supported with evidence. They also presented some amazing counter-arguments when they were challenged by their opponents! As part of Science Week, the Upper School children had a fun and educational session with Tom Rogerson, Headmaster of Cottesmore School. This was a very productive activity, during which pupils learned how to prompt and use AI tools to help them conceptualise and create their ‘perfect’ school. We saw a range of futuristic options, from flying schools to underwater schools; a few football-shaped ones; schools where “you forget about everything except for cricket”, and some that struck a delicate balance between lots of gaming and a bit of more traditional teaching. Children were reminded to follow the do’s and don’t when approaching technology- never share personal data, and ask parents and teachers for help! They enjoyed a masterclass on entrepreneurship too, and Mr Rogerson encouraged them to create their schools’ leaflets and start thinking about how to pitch and sell their businesses.
