๐ฑCoach Gen's Bio ๐ฑ Hello, Iโm Coach Genesis! I have developed such a huge passion for the sport of cheerleading and I am so excited to come back as a coach! I am a Gaylord High School graduate from the class of 2023 with 1 season of middle school basketball sideline, 1 season of jv football sideline, 3 seasons of varsity sideline, and 4 season of varsity competitive cheer under my belt. Additionally, I am a certified MHSAA Competitive Cheer Judge and a member of MCJA. Outside of cheer, I currently attend Central Michigan University majoring in Exercise Science and Spanish Language, as well as a certificate program for the Integration of Science, Technology, and Engineering. I am a member of the CMU Pre-Physical Therapy Club, and I work in the Introductory Biology Labs on campus. ๐ฑCoach Erin's Bio ๐ฑ Coaching has been a constant thread throughout my life and teaching career that has brought me joy and happiness. I am excited to work alongside Coach Paige and the Gaylord Varsity Cheer program this upcoming season! Becoming a Blue Devil has been a dream of mine since moving to Gaylord where Iโve called home for the last decade. My background begins at Howell High School where I was captain of my high school pom and dance team, a UDA all star, and MAPP all star. I became an assistant coach for their JV team where my coaching journey began. While attending Eastern Michigan University I was a part of their dance team and coached at Novi Middle School, Northville High School, and the University of Michigan. After landing my first full time teaching job at Inland Lakes High School I moved to Gaylord and continued my coaching passion. I built a solid sideline and MHSAA competitive cheerleading program over the course of 7 years. At one point we had more cheerleaders than we had football players participating. I then continued my career at Petoskey High School where I created the Petoskey Pom and Dance team. I also come from 17 years of dance experience that included being on the competitive dance team and I had training in ballet (passing many Cecchetti exams), lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, tap, and jazz. I live in Gaylord with my husband Brennen and our two cats Hemingway and Oscar. We love camping, hiking, skiing, kayaking, and spending time with our friends and family. ๐คSASSY & SEVENTEEN๐ค Amaya (AH-MY MY), a Junior side base on Varsity is SEVENTEEN today ๐ Amaya was just voted โTop Leaderโ at our Varsity Sideline banquet and for good reason! She is strong in skill set and has an ability to naturally lead when empowered to do so. She has a witty personality but also knows how to hunker down and grind when the pressure is on. Fun fact: last comp season amaya broke her nose TWICE IN ONE WEEK (one of which was on comp day) and still competed. โ ๏ธ๐ We have been lucky to have her in HS all three years and we canโt wait to see how much more she grows this comp season and heading into her Senior year! She poured into her training this summer- beating out most upper classmen in her PT participations and she never shys away from her next challenge. Kylie came in her freshman year with tons of flexibility but ZERO body control! ๐Fierce & Fifteen๐ Jasmine (Jazzy) celebrated 15 today with her twin brother! This Freshman (now incoming sophomore) athlete WOWโd our program these past sideline and competitive seasons! She rightfully earned her spot on our Varsity team for Competitive and held her own as our secret weapon flyer in round 3. There was nothing she wouldnโt try and her fearlessness helped us into our most successful season in rebuild history and even helped us break some overall records since the early 2000โs! Athletes from surrounding areas in the North from 7-12 grade gathered in Gaylord for a full day of fundamentals & fun! Each stunt group focused on the basics first- gaining trust and confidence in our set & loads. We moved on to mid level stunting and then had some fun rotating through OLE work, fun transitions and exits, partner stunts and then finally- our end of day pyramid! One does not work without the other- stunting takes skill, strength and knowledge. Unbeknownst to YOU. . . . Time has a way of escaping us and with that notion, we often tend to forget the decisions we make on a daily basis. From the day weโre born and all years following; we grow into ourselves and find our purpose. Did 3 year old me, crying, know that Iโd be in the Corps one day? Probably not. But my mother knew I was destined for greatness. My pupperino Pepper probably knew too. Hanging out at family parties; occupied with enjoying my summer or stressed about high school/homework/sports/workโฆ it never crossed my mind that one dayโฆ Iโd accomplish so much. This isnโt a โjoin the Marine Corpsโ post even though Iโll put some #marinecorps hashtags in here :D BUT i want to reiterate that you are important in this world and you have a purpose. Mine was the Marine Corps. Is still the Marine Corps. Itโs helping people/Marines in the capacity in which i know how and was taught. You just gotta find yours. DISTRICTS 2023 Absolute ๐ฅ 2023 Season came to an end yesterday as we competed our rounds one last time. Every year since 2018 we have taken 11th or 12th place at Districtsโฆ (last or second to last) Yesterday we landed 6th place! Only 1.8 pts from 5th and 6.12 points from 4th place (which would have got us out of Districts) ๐ฏ AND we had a 48pt lead from 7th place. Momentum is being gained and fires are lit! In the midst of striving for that number, our Lady Devils have trained daily, enduring pain, brokenness, failure, & defeat but also triumph, unity, strength and accomplishment over these past few months. Last night, at our last regular season competition, all things they have pushed for paid off. We surpassed our season goal by earning a ๐๐๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐๐๐ง. We head into Districts Saturday feeling amazing about what we have accomplished this season and we will leave it all out on the mat and see where our cards lay. This group of athletes, our coaching staff, parents & supporters have been nothing short of amazing and the momentum gained for our program has been tremendous.
