2001 Fiat Stilo - Project 192 The first review — [ 🇫🇷 VF en commentaire ] 🇬🇧 In the summer of 1998, at the request of Peter Fassbender, head of Centro Stile Fiat, Mauro Basso began sketching the theme of the car to replace the Fiat Bravo/Brava. Once this had been defined, the real start of the Project 192 was given at the beginning of the autumn. Mauro's ideas were pitted against two new in-house proposals from two young designers: the American Aaron Hawkins and the German Thomas Sälzle. But they weren't the only ones in the running. Three consultants have also been invited to participate: Fioravanti (pic 2), Pininfarina (pic 3), and Italdesign Giugiaro-IDG (pic 4). It is precisely their 3D renderings that we are presenting here. The six proposals were considered in October 1998. An incredibly short gestation period, although this is a key segment in Europe. Inevitably, this had an impact on the result, which (intentionally?) favored Mauro Basso's more mature proposal. This one was the winner, along with IDG. A new confrontation occurred in February 1999, with two 1:1 scale models. Basso's theme was confirmed and finally frozen in July of the same year. Alfa Romeo Alfasud L’Alfasud viene svelata al pubblico da Giuseppe Luraghi al Salone di Torino 1971. Inizialmente la vettura viene afflitta da fenomeni di corrosione, dovuti agli errati processi produttivi del problematico stabilimento di Pomigliano. Nonostante siano presto risolti, la reputazione è compromessa. Entre 1981 y 1982, la firma fundada por el ingeniero norteamericano John Zachary #delorean fabricó en Irlanda del Norte unos 8.500 ejemplares del #dmc12, un deportivo diseñado por Giorgetto Giugiaro, que se caracterizaba por sus puertas tipo alas de gaviota, motor #PRV (Peugeot-Renault-Volvo) ubicado atrás y una carrocería de acero inoxidable sin pintura. Sin embargo, hubo tres ejemplares que salieron de fábrica con pintura. Fueron autos que DeLorean envió en 1981 a #dupont para probar si la pintura podía adherirse bien al acero inoxidable. A Trabant styled by Giugiaro by Csaba Skomáth — Have you ever imagined a Trabant with the styling of Giugiaro? Here is an unusual story which takes us back more than 30 years in time. Just some months before the reunification of West and East Germany, the East German Kraftfahrzeugtechnik, published two photos of a new Trabant without any specific information. As the project name suggests (P 1995), it was foreseen to be arrived on the market by the mid-90s. 29 years thereafter, in 2019, in the book ‘Trabi Love’ two new photos were published on the car together with an interview with Carl H. Hahn, the former Head of VW. Hahn revealed some information on this secret X03 project. He confirmed that VW gave the proposal to East Germany to become the new Trabant model replacing the old one. But what could have led here? It is very likely, but never confirmed officially, that the project started its life around 1985 as an alternative proposal of Italdesign for the replacement of the VW Polo (86C). However, it was not considered as the final version of the VW Polo and the proposal was rejected. One of the reasons might have been economic: given the massive development costs of the new Golf and Transporter, VW wanted to keep the old Polo longer in production, having only a heavy facelift in 1990 and bringing the fully new one to the market only in 1994.  Most likely as a part of the starting agreement between Volkswagen and IFA/VEB Sachsenring, Hahn provided the Italdesign proposal to East Germany to become the new Trabant. He presented the concept personally to the foreign trade minister of East Germany at the end of 1988 in Wolfsburg. The first prototype was sent directly to East Berlin in 1989, which was followed by a second one thereafter. The rest is history: the economic situation of East Germany did not allow to realize the project. The joint-venture was established in 1989 between VW and IFA, but it started to produce Polos, instead of Italdesign-Trabants. The two prototypes disappeared without any information on their locations.

1984 DeLorean DMC-24 — [ 🇫🇷 en commentaire ] 🇬🇧  It is often forgotten, but John Z. DeLorean had the ambition to give his own brand a real range. As an experienced product man, he wanted to start with a coupe to quickly increase its notoriety. The next step in the program was to be a 4-door saloon, just as stylish. Giugiaro/Ital Design started the first studies in 1979 and, at the request of his client, took up the theme that he was refining for the Lancia Medusa concept to be presented at the 1980 Turin Motor Show. For this future production saloon, several types of opening are envisaged: gullwing doors at the front and classic doors at the rear or double gullwings as on the Bertone Marzal concept. But it was necessary to move forward quickly because the goal was to be able to launch the DMC-24 for 1984 and it was hoped to produce 10,000 units per year. At the end of 1981, the first 1:1 model was presented but it was already too late. DeLorean suspended payment and the descent into hell had already begun. Since the young manufacturer wasn’t able to pay the last bill with Ital Design, Giugiaro decided to keep the model. Le auto sportive del futuro di casa Hyundai, un concentrato di tecnologia con un occhio al passato. Oggi vi parliamo della N Vision 74, una concept ispirata alla Hyundai Pony Coupe’ disegnata da Giorgetto Giugiaro nel 1974. Lunga poco meno di 5 metri, l’auto è spinta da un powertrain ibrido costituito da una batteria da 62,4 kWh e dalla tecnologia fuel cell ad idrogeno con una capacità di 4,2 kg di carburante e la possibilità di fare il pieno soli in 5 minuti. Le prestazioni sono molto interessanti, 680 CV e 900 Nm scaricati esclusivamente sulle ruote posteriori e un’autonomia complessiva di 600 km. Alfa Romeo Alfasud / 1971 Un’ delle Alfa Romeo prodotte con l’inizio di un nuovo stabilimento situato a Napoli precisamente a Pormigliano d’Arco. Il terzo stabilimento che ancora adesso è in funzionamento e che continua la storia delle Alfa Romeo prodotte in questa fabbrica come anche altri marchi automobilistici. Nella storia dell’Alfa Romeo sono esistiti 2 stabilimenti (fabbriche) in passato: dagli inizi dell’ A.L.F.A. acronimo di (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica dell’Automobile), poi con l’arrivo di Nicola Romeo dando il cognome per l’aggiunta al marchio esistente: “Alfa Romeo”: il primo stabilimento che iniziò nel 1910 a Milano fu “del Portello” che purtroppo poi a smesso la produzione. E il secondo che era precisamente ad Arese dietro il Museo Storico Alfa Romeo anche questo stabilimento a smesso la produzione e proprio per la storia dell’Alfa Romeo e di tutti questi cambiamenti che non ostante la storia dell’Alfa Romeo ci trasmette grazie al bellissimo Museo Storico Alfa Romeo, sempre ad Arese, che in passato erano gli uffici amministrativi. [ SCOOP ] 1974 Audi 50 / 1974 VW Scirocco — 🇫🇷  J'ai toujours eu un faible pour les documents à plusieurs niveaux de lecture. À l'avant-plan de cette rare photo prise à Wolfsburg en 1972, un sculpteur travaille sur une maquette 1:1 en clay. Sous cet angle, difficile de savoir s'il s'agit d'une évolution interne de la Golf basée sur le travail d'Ital Design ou bien d'une contre-proposition pour la future Audi 50/VWPolo basée à son tour sur le travail de Gandini/Bertone. La nervure centrale pourrait donner raison à ce dernier projet. Mais l'arrière-plan vaut aussi le détour puisque l'on découvre accrochée au mur une proposition inconnue de la Scirocco. Ce plan à 3 vues révèle ainsi un modèle en deux volumes et demi équipé de boucliers enveloppants et de clignotants perchés aux quatre coins. Ce thème stylistique développé en interne n'est pas totalement nouveau : il a été inauguré quelques mois plus tôt par Herbert Schäfer sur le concept ESV, plus tard rebaptisé ESVW1. — 🇬🇧 I've always had a soft spot for documents with multiple reading levels. In the foreground of this very rare photo taken in Wolfsburg in 1972, a sculptor is working on a 1:1 clay model. From this angle, it's hard to tell if this is an in-house evolution of the Golf (based on Ital Design's work) or a counter-proposal for the future Audi 50/VWPolo (based on Gandini/Bertone's submission). The central rib could prove the latter project right. But the background is also worth a look as it shows on the wall a surprising proposal for the Scirocco. This unseen 3-view drawing reveals a two-and-a-half box design equipped with wraparound bumpers and turn signals perched at the four corners. [ SCOOP ] 1991 SEAT Toledo Mk1 - project S3 — 🇫🇷 Voici trois premières esquisses (sur un total de sept) réalisées par Italdesign fin 1986 pour le tout premier modèle réalisé sous la houlette de Volkswagen, après l'abandon du projet Majorca en 1984. Elles ont été commandées à l'époque par Friedrich Goes, le nouveau responsable de la R&D chez SEAT et supervisées par José Martinez Serra, le directeur du style de Martorell. Présentées entre deux portes à Carl Hahn en mai 1987, le style de celle que l'on nomme en interne Malaga 2 (et qui devait s'appeler Barcelona pour le marché américain) sera définitivement approuvé lors d'une design review en octobre 1987. Un thème stylistique qui sera ensuite distillé au grand public en 1989 et 1990 à travers les concepts Proto T et TL d'Italdesign. — 🇬🇧 Here are the initial three sketches (seven in all) made by Giugiaro/Italdesign at the end of 1986 for the very first model produced under VW's leadership, after the project Majorca was canned in 1984. They were commissioned at the time by Friedrich Goes, the new at SEAT technical director and supervised by José Martinez Serra, Martorell's design director. 1984 DeLorean DMC-24 — Four-seater saloon designed in 1979 by Giugiaro/Ital Design and based on the Lancia Medusa concept also under development at that time. Numerous alternatives were discussed around front-end design and door-opening system such as coupled gullwing doors inspired by the Bertone’s Marzal concept.  In 1981 a full-size mock-up was completed. The aim was to launch this model in 1984 with a production of 10,000 cars per year. But at that time, the DMC's financial situation was getting worse. Because Giugiaro/Ital Design knew he couldn't be paid, he decided to present that mock-up to the public.
