This guy!!! My friend Lukas from Germany. When I first arrived in northern Vietnam to do a motorcycle trip, I didn't know a single person. That changed quickly. Lukas was at the same hostel as me and we quickly decided that we would hit the road together in the morning. 5 days later, we had handfuls of stories to tell bring home with us. Like when we took a boat ride out in the sticks and ended up going THROUGH A MOUNTAIN. He's an amazing dude with a fantastic sense of adventure. And he likes to drive motorbikes fast. 9th largest TIN mine in the world. Tin is a relatively rare element in the Earth’s crust, with approximately 2 ppm (parts per million), compared to iron with 50,000 ppm. This is a picture of a mine.... the impressive stuff is unseen under the mountain. But looking at the story of the people is an interesting bit of knowledge. Very neat to see all the different types of jobs the people of Vietnam have. After kicking out so many countries and enduring war after war, these hard working people are determined to move forward and continue to rebuild and strengthen their economy. Building construction is booming. Mines are clearly in operation. Farmers are sewing crops. Lumber jacks are chopping tree's. And they are pro-creating like crazy. There's cute tiny humans EVERYWHERE in Vietnam. Up in the mountains here they may not have much money, but I talked with one local who knew some english and he said despite not having any money, he and his family were happy. We started talking a little bit about my culture back home in comparison to his. "Gimmie gimmie gimmie" is what we scream. Obviously we don't shout that out loud but if you're a westerner, look at your lifestyle. Am I wrong? Are you content with what you have or is there this long list of "wants" floating around your head somewhere? When "more" isn't an option for these people, they are forced to be content with what they have. If you apply this "less is more" idea to your western lifestyle, you quickly begin to appreciate the simple things in life a lot faster. I'm thankful that these fantastic people were able to show me that with their lifestyle. What I have in Canada is presumably a "better" lifestyle at a first glance. That may not actually be the case once you take a closer look. However... I don't think I'm quite ready to give up my flushing toilet yet. What's one simple thing you are thankful for today? Anything you want. Doesn't have to be simple. Vietnam kids. They are quite literally everywhere. This kid in the yellow was especially active. (reminded me of myself when I was his age) This little guy would scream "Hello" at me or some other western person. All the western people who heard him would say "Hello" back and wave and he'd run and scream out of excitement that he got a reply. 10-15 seconds later the excitement wore off and he came out of hiding and back into plain sight for another round of entertainment. After about half an hour of this game, the locals (mostly mom/aunties) were starting to get a little tired of this game as it was rather loud and some what obnoxious. She tried to reign in the craziness but we all know how well little boys listen to their mothers when there is a crowd around. You could see it clear as day in his eyes, that the game was afoot. He was on a mission to see how far that boundary could be pushed before severe punishment was immanent. In an effort to help this situation, I got out the drone and started flying around. After the fear of the "flying bug" wore off it was time to be curious. Mr. yellow shirt was front line and center to see what the drone could see. As per usual a crowd quickly gathered to look at the screen and see the world as the birds do. I usually don't get any usable footage out of the first battery as people just want to see themselves from above so I just kind of fly around a bunch and let them look at themselves on the screen. I have a daily mission (not just a goal) of making at least one person smile. One of the easiest ways to get genuine smiles out of people. Fly a drone. Weird. It was not my intention at all for buying my drone.
