Good afternoon, y'all. This butterfly was painted a few years ago. I painted it in memory of all of those that lost their lives in the April 27th, 2011 tornado that came through Tuscaloosa. Our city was forever changed that day. My grandmother was in a nursing home that was completely destroyed, and although she survived the tornado she would not handle the relocation well and passed after. She is listed on the victims list as were any others that the tornado had a direct impact on their loss of life. 2011 would be a very hard year for me. The tornado, destruction of our city, loss of my grandmother and then the sudden passing of my mother in August of that year. She was 56 and it was devastating. When I think of the hardest most painful things I've ever experienced in my life, it would be almost the entire year of 2011 and the loss of my second mother (my aunt Cherrie Lynn) and confidant in 2015 to cancer. I tell you all this to say that it's not only in joyous places that we find inspiration. Sometimes it's in the sorrow, pain and healing from it that we find it. Art therapy isn't a phrase I toss around lightly, it is so very therapeutic to sit down with the memories good and bad and create something that comes from your soul. You may get happy little flowers and peaceful landscapes from me, but I can guarantee you, there's so much more in each brushstroke. ❤️

There is a misconception out there that everything will feel easeful when we step into our souls work. Yes there are easeful parts, when I am in my flow it feels so juicy but getting to the place where I could be in flow did not feel easeful. It was confronting. I was called into a deeper relationship to my beliefs, my conditioning, my truth, my leadership. So many entrepreneurs come to me on the verge of arriving at the seat of their souls work but they are confused because it often stirs so much up first. But that is how I know they are so close, because they are in the initiation of themselves. It won't always feel easeful, pleasurable or like everything is magnetizing instantly. It requires grit, trust (so much trust) belief in yourself, a willingness to rewire outdated beliefs and surrendering to what you know is calling you. The result though, is work and a life that feels like home and that feeling is worth every temporary moment of discomfort. If this is the season you are in, don't give up now. Good morning, y'all! Happy Friday! I can't tell you all how much I love Fridays. Unfortunately, I'm not a full time artist but I am thankful for the time I get to spend with my dad every day. I am a Deddy's (said in my Alabama Southern accent) girl. I've mentioned it before but if you didn't know, I help my Deddy run a custom frame shop my grandmother opened in 1970. I've been working there since I was 16, almost 32 years. Years ago we started closing at 4 on Fridays and then I made the executive decision 😉 to close at 2. We're a small business but we take in large orders from the University of Alabama and considering he and I are the only full time employees (my son part time), it's a lot of work. I've been surrounded by art my entire life, it has always been my passion. My grandpa and uncle were both artists and my dad an abstract artist. I hope to paint full time someday. As long as my dad is there, I'll work beside him and keep running the business he helped build. It's amazing to think it's been around long enough for 4 generations to work there and learn the trade. I think about what I am teaching my children through what they are watching me do; the dreams I go for, the mistakes I make but pick myself up, the priorities I set for myself, the way I embody my emotions. I think about my great great grandchildren; the stories of who I am, the decisions I made, the ripple effect through my lineage that allowed them to believe something different for themselves. You are the legacy of your own life and I know that as I am transitioning from this earthly life none of the material stuff will matter. What will matter are the stories that I am leaving behind, the energy of my being, the encouragement that I imprinted on so many people's dreams, the presence in my life here and now, the love that I wrapped around the full spectrum of life, the belief I felt in my own spirit. All of it so beautifully wrapped into a human experience. I HATE bucket lists and here’s why. They promote doing things only when you are close to death. WTF!!! Why would anyone want to wait to live until they were dying? It doesn’t make any sense. There are no guarantees in life and you have to take the proverbial bull by the horns and LIVE. Instead, I have an Adventure List. It’s got all the places I have been and all the places I still want to go to. Every other week I look at my list and go on an Adventure. Last week I went to a Safari park where I drove through a ginormous park with all kinds of animals. I took my mom with me and she had a blast. Only thing is we both forgot to take pics of us and I forgot to use her as my photographer. I tried to take a selfie with a llama and was worried the whole time it would try to stick its head in my window. I have 17 more scheduled Adventures this year. I’m celebrating some wins and shifts in the background of my recent million-dollar lifetime crossing…. EVEN IF IT’S GOOD CHANGE, it can be challenging to navigate what is NEW. Whether you’ve asked for it for YEARS or it happened to you, it’s releasing something and allowing all the feels. Change in entrepreneurship is what positions you for expansion. Releasing what doesn’t serve you. Starting new things. Humbling you and focusing you on what matters most. Making you depend on your support and community. REMINDING you that it's okay to go from GOOD to GREAT.
