Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth... In the Beatitudes of Matthew's Gospel (5:5), Jesus proclaims, "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." But biblical meekness isn't weakness. A "warrior of the meek" isn't harmless, but rather possesses the power to wield violence while keeping it sheathed – a metaphor for using restraint. Being meek signifies acting with mercy and wisdom, de-escalating conflict. Conversely, having "nothing to lose" implies a readiness to abandon compassion and resort to violence. Tyranny requires dismantling on both a societal and personal level. This doesn't negate fighting injustice. However, the roots of evil lie deeper than social constructs, predating history. Traditional hero myths depict the sovereign or enlightened individual as the sole dragon slayer, the sole redeemer. Yet, the mob can't match the power of the individual, nor can a group guarantee virtue. A revolution fueled by resentment, bitterness, and hate – traits of a "weak" individual – stems from hubris, not meekness, and will likely be destructive. Conversely, the truly meek – merciful yet formidable – can inherit the earth, meaning they can reach their full potential. (Continuação da Parte 4) No âmbito do roteiro, fica estabelecido que essa nova série é uma continuação direta da original, se passando após um breve “timeskip” de mais ou menos um ano e meio. Essa passagem de tempo dita a tonalidade lúdica adotada pelos novos episódios, incentivando mudanças e desenvolvimentos das relações interpessoais entre os personagens, em especial entre Bruce Wayne e Dick Grayson, agora buscando sua independência como Asa Noturna. Tim Drake surge como um novo Robin, possuindo um background que combina muito mais com a história original de outro Robin, o Jason Todd, e Batgirl entra definitivamente para o núcleo principal. A atmosfera dos novos episódios é bem mais fantasiosa, utilizando isso como saída para trabalhar com seus conflitos com mais liberdade em tramas que vão desde animais gigantes até buscas por vinganças. Dentre os episódios de destaque, em “Sins Of The Father” e “Never Fear” o novo Robin já mostra para o que veio com sua personalidade radical e corajosa; “You Scratch My Back” e “Old Wounds” desenvolvem as modificações no status heroico de Dick Grayson enquanto “Girl´s Night Out” se conecta com “Superman” e abre espaço para o núcleo feminino brilhar; “Growing Pains” e “Over The Edge”, os melhores capítulos da temporada, aplicam maturidade em narrativas verdadeiramente tensas, de real sofrido para o elenco, mas que se encerram com soluções surreais que deixam consequências íntimas em seus envolvidos; “Mean Seasons”, “The Ultimate Thrill”, “Torch Song” e “Critters” apresentam novos vilões diferenciados e interessantes, e “Legends of The Dark Knight” emula o traço de quadrinhos clássicos para expandir ainda mais seu universo imaginativo, até mesmo a Carrie Kelley possui uma participação especial. (Continuação da Parte 2) Para acompanhar o tom solar de sua irmã de exibição como um contraponto direto de estilo e narrativa, a terceira temporada foi estabelecida como uma série totalmente nova, derivada da mesma origem. Em “The New Batman Adventures”, o famigerado estilo “dark deco” recebe inserções de elementos modernosos para acompanhar as novas tendências da época, e esse fator torna o visual da nova fase bem mais cartunesco apesar de não afetar em nada a movimentação. A qualidade da animação continua fenomenal, as influências de anime bem aproveitadas e um foco muito maior na ação, tendo episódios quase inteiros focados em lutas e perseguições. Porém, nem sempre é possível escapar da censura como antes,e em várias ocasiões flashes brancos piscam na tela para camuflar golpes de maior impacto. Os designs dos personagens acompanham essa mudanças estéticas tornando-se ainda mais estilizados. Enquanto alguns como Batman, Batgirl, Espantalho e Crocodilo foram reformulados e receberam identidades gráficas fortalecidas, outras mudanças pouco agradaram. O Duas-Caras agora tem menos detalhes no lado deformado de seu rosto, o Coringa é mais cômico e menos expressivo, plastificado, a Hera Venenosa mudou por completo, recebendo poderes autônomos que antes não possuía. A Arlequina, por algum motivo, não mudou nada, enquanto o Pinguim se distanciou ainda mais da versão cinematográfica pouco agradável e tendo recebido até mesmo o seu empreendimento Iceberg Lounge. O que fizeram com a Mulher Gato foi um verdadeiro crime, uniforme sem contraste, excesso de preto, expressões caricatas, os designers não foram nem um pouco generosos na hora de caracterizá-la. (Continuação da Parte 1) Os episódios da segunda temporada são tão bons quanto os da primeira e eles replicam algumas características próprias que popularizaram a série. “Avatar” marca o retorno de Ra’s Al Ghul com uma aventura fantástica ao estilo “Indiana Jones” que remete diretamente às raízes “pulp” que originaram esse vilão, enquanto “Harlequinade” e “Harley’s Holiday” exploram a potencial popularidade da Arlequina. Para os fãs do estilo noir clássico da temporada anterior, “A Bullet For Bullock” e “The Lion and The Unicorn” entregam tramas mais soturnas, “Second Chance” trabalha novamente com Harvey Dent, suas múltiplas personalidades e sua importância intrínseca na vida particular de Bruce, além de “Bane” que insere o vilão homônimo que faltava para fechar a galeria. Também temos a presença de capítulos destinados a emplacar novos antagonistas excêntricos, e dentre estes se destacam “Baby-Doll”, “Make ‘Em Laugh” e o empolgante “Lock-Up”. Aproveitando o marketing para a estreia de “Batman Returns” nos cinemas, a temporada insere “Batgirl Returns” como um trocadilho bem empregado, e utiliza o espaço deste episódio para estabelecer melhor Barbara Gordon em seu núcleo heroico, já tendo em mente certos planos futuros mas por hora apenas a intenção de ter uma história mais leve no catálogo. Por fim, ainda sobra espaço para expandir o universo animado da DC como um todo, a essa altura ainda em formação, e “Showdown” deixa Gotham de lado para aventurar-se com Jonah Hex no oeste selvagem. A segunda temporada foi tão bem recebida quanto a primeira, e com o passar dos anos o próprio método de viabilização das séries animadas se modificava graças ao impacto de “Batman” na programação. A reputação de Bruce Timm e sua equipe de produtores e roteiristas era igualmente favorecida e seu universo compartilhado com os personagens da DC já caminhava para sua definição prévia. Com a estreia do desenho do “Superman” em 1996, realizado pela mesma equipe, “Batman” também foi novamente renovado, mas dessa vez as mudanças foram ainda mais expressivas. (Continua na Parte 3)
Aclamada por público e crítica, a série animada do “Batman” foi um dos maiores sucessos televisivos da primeira metade da década de 90, reformulando não apenas a reputação do homem morcego como um fenômeno cultural como também criando uma novo olhar mais criterioso em relação às produções de desenhos animados. A qualidade da animação era excelente, a estética ainda melhor e os roteiros colecionavam tramas memoráveis. Com o encerramento da primeira temporada, propostas para continuações logo foram apresentadas, mas ainda havia reclamações em meio ao apelo popular, demandas da audiência que necessitavam ser revisitadas. Mesmo que condizente com sua proposta e inspirações, “Batman” ainda possuía boas doses de violência, confrontos intensos, armamentos realistas na tela e um certo tom melancólico e misterioso embalado nos céus avermelhados de Gotham City e seus habitantes fatídicos. A série driblou a censura fervorosa da época diversas vezes em sua primeira temporada, mas essa atmosfera sombria precisava ser amenizada para manter o desenho no ar. Em contrapartida, os roteiristas já exerciam o domínio completo daquele universo animado para alcançar uma solução que não sacrificasse o espírito original. A produção da segunda temporada veio com a intenção de tornar a narrativa já estabelecida, de certa forma, mais familiar e aventuresca, não se rendendo aos conceitos moralistas comuns do “sábado de manhã” e os repensando de forma a camuflar-se em meio a eles enquanto preserva sua real identidade. Assim, a nova leva de episódios surge com um novo título que canoniza a importância do Robin no âmbito do protagonismo, até então presente apenas em momentos esporádicos. Esse detalhe nos mostra outro aspecto bem empregado nos novos roteiros, o individualismo do Batman tem sido evitado e em cada episódio o nosso herói compartilha seu espaço de tela com a humanização de seu elenco de apoio.
