New 1:64 DDA Holdens have finally landed, and I reckon they were worth the wait! There are four new casting, which includes a 1948 FX (48-215) Ute & wagon and 1953 FJ police car & ambulance. It’s a nice mix, as whilst Matchbox, Biante & AutoArt have previously offered the FX/FJ in 1:64 scale, no-one has previously released a police car or ambulance, nor a Ute or wagon. The wagon is also a curious one, as whilst some prototypes were built, a wagon version never made it to production. Having owned a 48/215 sedan back in his youth, the ‘Humpy’ ute was a natural progression, although it was not without hard work. After sitting under a tree for three decades, it took johnpapa4076 another 10 years to get the car on the road, with modifications such as a HR front end, twin carburettors, extractors and a 12-volt conversion. The late-model Cadillac taillights are a nice touch; a common conversion in the States but rarely seen here. Spotted this 1952 Holden “FX” Coupe Utility 50-2106 at a @carsandcoffeebrisbane_official event in Morningside, Brisbane, Australia! Shout yourself out if you’re the owner! The Holden 48-215 (yes, that’s the official name – bear with me) was a mid-size passenger car introduced in in 1948 as an all-new model line, and was available with two bodies: the 4-door sedan, called the “48-215”; and the 2-door coupe utility, called the “50-2106”. The 48-215’s successors begun using nomenclature consisting of an ‘F’ followed by a letter (FJ, FE, FC, etc.), so this model line as a whole has been dubbed the Holden “FX” among enthusiasts, however this was never an official Holden model designation. The “FX” name however, did originate from GM-Holden to describe 48-215 models with the post-1952 front shock absorber update, and was subsequently used in advertising material for these updated models. Over time, the FX name started being used by enthusiasts to describe the entire model line. I will be calling it the “Holden FX” hereof for simplicity’s sake. The Holden FX was introduced to Australia as the first General Motors product to be sold as a Holden in Australia. It was officially unveiled as “The Holden” (with no model name), where the 48-215 name was likely an internal model code used within Holden. A coupe utility version called the 50-2106 (again likely an internal model code) was added in 1951 marketed as the “Holden Coupe Utility”. The FX’s design originated from Chevrolet for the US, but it was decided the car was too small for the US market. Holden used the design as inspiration for this passenger car, and as a result, bears heavy resemblance to American car designs from the time. Three prototype models were built in Detroit in the US and shipped to Australia where eventual production would begin. A further two prototypes were built in Australia, with the first of these valued at an auction in 2013 at over AU$1M. (Continued in comments) | | |

Holden's first domestically produced automotive line ____________________________________________________ Prior to the Second World War's end, the Australian Government wanted to take steps in producing their first car. With the assistance of General Motors, the Holden 48-215, simply sold as the "Holden", based of a rejected Chevrolet design post-war began production in 1948. It has a 60 hp engine that is connected to a 3-speed manual transmission and a dust-proof body, made for the Outback. In July 1951, the 50-2106 coupe utility was released, as well as a taxi version, called the "Business Sedan" in 1953. Over 120,000 Holden 48-215s were sold throughout its production time of 1948-1953, making it one of the most popular cars of its time in the land down under.

It wouldn't be West Croydon in 1949 without modelling the locomotives and rolling stock that traversed the Port Line. A big part of this project is recognising the industries of the Adelaide Western Suburbs and their dependence on rail transport. Here, I'm assembling a kit from End of the Line Models which is a OA Wagon. These wagons played a significant part in Australian automotive history, transporting Holden FX car bodies from the GMH plant at Woodville to Melbourne, Victoria for the rest of the assembly. This movement with a train consisting of these wagons would pass West Croydon several times a day. Cette semaine prennons la direction de l'Australie afin de découvrir la marque Holden 😏 Célèbre aujourd'hui pour ses berlines à moteur V8 qui possèdent leur propre championnat... holden à d'abord débuté en bénéficiant d'un coup de pouce du destin 🧐 En 1948, la première Holden voit le jour et est nommée FX 48. Son petit air d'Américaine n'est pas le fruit du hasard puisque la base est dessinée par Chevrolet 😋 Mais la voiture est jugée trop petite pour les critères US et Holden va donc en profiter pour récupérer le projet 👌 48 pour l'année d'accord mais pourquoi FX ? Quand la voiture est à l'étude, les pièces de suspension qui sont totalement nouvelles porte la marque FX au crayon pour ne pas la confondre avec les anciennes pièces produites par le fabricant pour d'autres marque. Un nom tout trouvé 😀 Sa sortie fut un évènement pour le pays et c'est le Premier Ministre lui même qui présentera la voiture 😏 Elle reçoit un 6 cylindres en ligne de 2,2 Litres produisant 60 chevaux. Bien que le moteur soit en fonte il bénéficie tout même d'arbres à came en tête 😌 Au final la voiture pèse à peine plus d'une tonne et est robuste. It's a powerful pitch to a country so unique, and indeed the tone was resonated throughout the population. Holden was top dog of Australia for decades, but it only took a few years to watch the nation's entire vehicle manufacturing industry fall from glory to total annihilation. Briefly after Holden's disappearance, the @natmotormuseumaus opened an exhibition of the manufacturer's concepts and milestone cars, inspiring this @carlingcars take on where Holden tripped up from a first hand experience. The topic is nothing undiscussed, but the museum lets us take a step back and have a deep breath to remember why we fell in love in the first place. After driving my Holden every day for 7 years, it's been decommissioned from its services. Hopefully, it can one day be another fine example of what the lion badge really meant. I hope this becomes the inspiration to get myself in front of the camera more often!
