- Exactly 40 years ago today, the famous gay café April was opened at Reguliersdwarsstraat 37 (now @DukeofTokyo). The place was founded by Frans Monsma and Guus Silverentand and became world-famous for its creative interior decorations and the fancy parties. In 1996, a rotating bar was installed, which became its signature feature. In 2010, April had to close because of the collapse of the bar company of its owener, late Mr. Sjoerd Kooistra. With its open and accessible atmosphere, April is still missed by many.
