🤴If you’re looking for Taiwanese authenticity 🍜 As much as Hong Kong people love Taiwan 🇹🇼 and Taiwanese food, it seems to be there aren’t actually that many Taiwanese restaurants in Hong Kong that do a good job and neither are the foods they serve all that authentic. This one in my opinion has always been pretty highly rated for its authenticity and flavours in general. 🍜 A few years back I came here and tried their impressive Dan Dan Noodles and gave it a pretty good rating. This time I felt like beef noodles instead, but frankly speaking, Dan Dan Noodles is really the thing to go for because the beef wasn’t all that great and some pieces were a bit hard and coarse. They also don’t use the shin area braised softly, instead beef rib meats are used. The noodle and soup base is however pretty authentic, I like the broth in the sense that it really has that genuine Taiwanese taste like the ones in Taiwan itself, but if you ask me whether the quality is high and amazing in terms of flavour, well my answer is “no” 😅 🍜 I do appreciate the whole bowl being hot enough and topped with some preserved veg as well as generously sprinkled chopped spring onions. But a very disappointing factor were the small packeted Lee Kum Kee disposable chilli oils. At Little Bao: Matcha bao $80ish hkd Honestly it was better than expected. I always thought it’s overly hyped but it’s actually pretty good except it’s overpriced. The bao itself is quite small sadly. It’s like bite size kind of snack.
At Bean Cafe: Beacon Benny, honey glazed wings, Ham Benny, Iced chocolate and a latte. When you line up to get ripped off. Culture of HK lol Definitely overly hyped and the price is just not worth the quality. Ham and beacon are very ordinary but I guess the poached egg was done just right, liquidy enough. The wings were quite good though but the portion is very small. The drinks taste like chain store cafes except Blenz makes better ice chocolate than them.
At Shari Shari Kakigori: Soy shaved ice $70 roughly Best shaved ice in Hong Kong! I got so addicted to it that every time I’m near the area, I would just walk 20 mins to there and wait in line for another 30 minutes! On a scorching hot day, a fresh delicious shaved ice can cure anything! This was like drinking vita soy in shaved ice textures. Okay it sounds weird but when the ice melts in your mouth, it’s just very relieving.
At Kwai Chung Plaza (ground floor): Hainanese Chicken rice $30 hkd The most worthwhile dish so far! The chicken is tender and soft and the rice has a slight hint of chicken oil to it too. Portion wise is average but I was decently full with it but I snacked a bit more after shopping for a couple of hours. But for this price, I don’t think I can find anything else that can top here. #harbourgurls
At I Creameria: Matcha Parfait $58 includes matcha icecream, chestnut, mochis, cornflakes, matcha jelly, regular jelly and some liquidity original milky icecream I think the matcha icecream is really good. It has a strong matcha flavour to it and it's very smooth. The rest was mehh. Mochi is too icy. Chestnut taste like a sweet hard thing. The milky thing is like too milky for a lactose intolerant person. The matcha jelly doesn't have a strong matcha to it. Regular jelly taste like too plain. Next time I'll get matcha icecream in cone!
At Shari Shari Kakigori House: Sesame Kakigori $60 🍧 One of my new favourite flavors here! It has a strong japanese sesame flavor to it even as you eat till the end. I was imagining myself eating sesame sweet soup but in a shaved ice way or eating icy sesame Geleto. The ice is as good as usual which can hydrate you instantly. Im almost to my 8th kakigori 🙆🏻 #saogoodgood
At Le Port Parfumé: 2 course set lunch $148 - Appetizer + Entree: Braised Beef Finger with Potato Mousseline One of the better lunch places in Central. If you're not in a rush for lunch like on Friday, it's a great place to catch up with your friends and chill. The food here is quite good even the appetizers are very appealing. This beef finger is very soft and tender. Normally braised beef would taste worse than the Chinese braised beef brisket but this time i find it much better. Although it's a bit heavy compared to the fish, it is very filling. As for potato it's very fresh and not too creamy or heavy. Portion wise is huge and i didn't even finish half of it.
At Holy Crab: American Chicken Lollipop served with vegetable & Blue Cheese Dip $128 for 6 I really enjoyed this dish as the skin is crunchy and the meat is juicy. It's also very tender and flavorful. However, the price is a bit pricy for 6 small fried chicken drumsticks. I would rather buy spicy chicken wings from mcdicks.
At Dalloyau: Truffle Chocolate Ice Cream on Waffle Cone $50 This is one unique flavor! The truffle flavor is very strong. At first it tastes odd as it's a bit salty and sweet. The truffle flavor is exactly what you'll expect for truffle soup. The chocolate flavor then kicks in and you taste the sweetness of it. Since it's a softserve it is very smooth and creamy. However it melts quite fast. I also think the ice cream can be thicker and richer in terms of texture.
At Summer Ice: Earl Grey Waffle $90 and Matcha Waffle $65 Earl grey waffle is quite unique as not many places offer it. The waffle is supposed to be earl grey flavored but it's not as strong as expected. You can taste a bit of the earl grey flavor. As for the lavender ice cream, i would say it's pretty strong with the lavender flavor for those lavender lovers out there. I'm not a huge fan of it so I rather eat the matcha icecream. After eating the waffle, the pineapple would taste sour. But it was quite juicy so i would recommend to eat the pineapple first.
At La Creperie: La Poule $78 Pistachio Icecream with honey almond topping Pistachio ice cream melts too quickly! Pistachio flavor isn't too stronf but you can still taste it. Honey glazed crepe isn't a good combo as it's way too sweet. The crepe is fresh and hot. I don't taste much of the egg flavor as there's too much honey. I think nutella and crepe is the best combo!
At 靚食園: Satay Egget $18 Not as good as what i saw on Instagram's posts. It is quite unique and very satay but more to the spicy side. Technically satay has this peanut flavor but i don't taste the sweet peanuty satay part. Now the texture, it's freshly made but it turned out to be soggy and soft, instead of crunchy and soft. As for the portion, it is same as any other egget. #harbourgurls
At Dessert Playground: Hazelnut Millie Crepe $32 Half the price of Lady M twice the quality! The hazelnut crepe has a strong hazelnut flavor and is very smooth! Those layers of hazelnut cream is so good! Size is decent too! Texture is smooth and chewy ish. I can finish one by myself without feeling guilty as every bite is worth my tummy fat!! #saogoodgood
At Tokuoki: 2 set lunches (beef short ribs $88 and beef cubes $88) and 2 side orders of beef tongue $50 Set lunch comes with rice, seaweed soup and a drink Overall quality is alright. The beef is definitely not those high grade beef so try and cook it on point! Tbh without the sauce the beef is kinda plain. But for this price it's acceptable. I was quite full !!
At 紅磡雞蛋仔: Mango Pancake $16 Constantly featured by 🍎Action I finally had my motivation to try it! This is so filling!! The mango there is as good as the ones i had in Cheung Chau! It's so sweet and fresh !! I would just buy straight up mangos from him !! The pancake is quite big and thick. It's also soft and full of egg flavor. However, i would say the egg pancake is a bit dry and I get thirsty from it. But the special customized salad dressing helps moisturize it. The salad dressing is a but sour which is how it taste like so the pancake is very sweet with a pinch of sourness to it. I rather eat it with condense milk 😂 Double the sweetness!! #saogoodgood #karyeatsdessert
At Captain 糖: Captain's Matcha Ball $68 Only came here for this ball to snapchat lol ! Love playing with my dessert ! I dont think its worth a second try here. The matcha outer layer is chocolate that tastes mediocre. Inside is very common matcha ice cream that can be purchased anywhere. The red bean sauce that is used to melt the chocolate taste like water. The mochi and read bean on the side are decent quality. Overall this is for fun and not belly worthy. #karyeatsdessert
At Harvest House Sushi: every sushi on here is only $10 ! That is so cheap@for nigiri! Sushi portion is decent more like bigger than expected esp for this price! Quality wise is decent fresh but not as good as those high end japanese restaurants of course but not too bad for a new open sushi place. We ordered almost everything on the sushi menu except 3 items which we forgot to order but were too full for seconds! Definitely will come back esp for their ABURI FLOUNDER DON!!!
At Hotaru Sushi: assorted nigiri chosen by me! Sushi here is quite fresh compare to other Japanese places i have tried. Portion wise is decent so is the rice portion. There's not a lot of rice to it which i like because i think for a nigiri, it is better with less rice. However, i find the sushi not well pressed as it fell apart easily when i was holding on to it. Though, taste wise is better than average!
At Hanbing: Violet Bingsoo $80 It's sweet purple yam bingsoo! Going along with the hype!! 🙆🏻 Theres a leaf as decoration which we shall skip that! Under it is a huge scoop of purple yam paste. It adds flavors to the milky shaved ice. On top of the ice is yam powder which doesnt have much flavor to it. Its more like purple sprinkles. The milky shaved ice is very small and soft like sand but less rough. It melts quite fast too once you start on a side. Inside the ice has some almond and mochi kind of chewy material which adds different mind of textures to the shaved ice. Portion wise is big enough for two people. Not bad i would say.
At Little Italian: Tiramisu $80? I didn't order 😂😂😂 But i did request for it as it was strongly recommended. This cake was shared with 6 other people and we could barely finish it! Portion is definitely worth your money! As for texture it's quite moisty and soft. It's also quite creamy too i would say. Its kinda like moosty sponge cake thats smooth and creamy. It's also not too sweet because of the alcohol in it and the coco powder. However it would be better if they have ladyfingers along with it to add in another kind of texture to a moisty sponge cake lol
