The newly opened up Hong Kong style cafe also known as ‘cha chaan teng’ in Cardiff is @northpointcardiff . A lovely warm welcome in a cosy cafe. It’s safe to say it’s very popular already with all the tables having bums on seats when I got there. Thankfully I did book. What we ordered: •Homemade Fish Siu mai •curry fish ball •Prawn and pork Wonton with lo mein •Crispy pan fried chicken, scallion sauce and Indomie noodles The curry fish balls for me were top tier. The curry sauce is so flavourful along with the bouncy texture of the fish ball itself. This to me is exactly like what you get in Hong Kong. I loved these! The fish siu mai was ok. The texture was a bit more gummy and bouncy (again like the ones in Hong Kong). Pair this with their chilli oil and it takes it up a notch. (Very good chilli oil too) Prawn and pork wonton lo mein- this was yummy. This to me is home from home. I thoroughly enjoyed the noodles and the seasoning was perfect. The noodles itself had a lovely ‘chew ‘ to them which is like the Italian equivalent of ‘Al dente’ . Juicy pork and prawn wontons were nice too. Overall a very tasty wholesome dish. The pan fried chicken and Indomie looked very tasty and my friend thoroughly enjoyed it. The scallion oil dip is THE best dip that you could ever eat in my opinion. If you have never tried it and love ginger and spring onions- please try it. Thank me later. (Hainanese chicken also serves the same dip) I purposely do not make this scallion dip (ever) because I would literally inhale the entire pot just generously doused on fluffy rice. Shameful behaviour I know. Another post to follow to showcase @northpointcardiff fresh Chinese buns as I believe they deserve a separate post. If you guys want to experience a taste of what you can expect in an authentic Hong Kong cafe- this is most definitely the place you need to visit. The market takes place every year for 2 days! It was a free event and filled with loads of fun activities!
