It’s been a month friends! Had I not decorated for Xmas before everything hit the fan none of it would have been done. I’ve been going through the motions for the last few weeks, unable to cook, clean, get dressed, answer the phone, pay bills. Yesterday, however, I had a tiny burst of energy, or was it a touch of overwhelm, which resulted in me disassembling my Christmas apartment building. When my friend sent me a bag of her and her mom’s vintage ornaments she told me to make a wreath for myself. I wasn’t going to do that of course. Greetings, children, and welcome. Pray gather around the fire and let me tell you a tale. A tale more terrifying than spiders, ghosts or giant robotic vampire bats, more destructive than 5 psychos becoming one massive psycho and more corrosive than your least favorite aunt. - Ah, screw it, it's time. The answer is time. - Or more specifically the crushing, unstoppable march thereof. Scary, no? Happy Halloween, muhahaha. - Not me making excuses for not uploading anything here for months. - Anyway, this is NewAge Mista. - Basically just Soundwave as if he drove right off Dark of the Moon's set, kicked down my door, frenched me for 5 minutes straight and hopped into my collection. - Now, Soundwave was my favorite Transformer since before I even liked Transformers, and his appearance in Dark of Moon, "uncharacteristic" as it might have been, also managed to hit me right. I even already featured his Studio Series toy, go check it out. - But this... This is no Studio Series. - So far, I'd call him as perfect as Dark of the Moon Soundwave's on-screen model cán be as a toy. - And not just in looks, either. From toes to fingertips, poseability crackles through him and then some, even doing the Iron Man pose no problem (see the last pic). - His transformation is a season-appropriate manifestation of the overlap between brilliance and insanity. Meaning, obviously, it's amazing, but nothing goes where you'd expect it to go and everything, primarily the legs, has a specific order of operations. - Then the alt-mode, the Merc Benz SLS AMG, wíth the iconic and appreciated gullwing door-thing. This chonky boi is Studio Series Soundwave-...hm? ...What do you mean "Again?"? - Oh, right. *ahem* This is Studio Series *83* Soundwave, the one from the 2018 Bumblebee movie. Totes unrelated to Studio Series *51* Soundwave, the one from the 2011 Dark of the Moon movie. - As Soundwave only appeared in the movie in robot-mode we've gotten a pretty perfect peek at what this universe's 'Wave looks like, and this figure looks about as spot-on as you can get. - As mentioned, Soundwave is quite the chonker and the spot-on-ness thereof notwithstanding, it hampers his poseability quite a lot, primarily in his arms, despite double-jointed elbows. But besides that all is very well. - The thing he transforms into is like a glider/speeder contraption, and although it doesn't really look like anything to me, the transformation is surprisingly snug. I understand the glider/speeder contraption is a callback to a moment in a comic when Soundwave actually transformed into a glider/speeder contraption so it's canon I guess. - But I prefer the hovertank fanmode in the last pic. - Soundwave didn't actually come with Ravage, but I wasn't going to review Soundwave without at least one of his squad. Ravage himself was actually my first toy of this year, but right after, life kinda got in the way of fun stuff. - Ravage is quite a fun toy too, plus he came with Soundwave's classic missile for the look. You know, Lockdown really went hard in this whole Transformers thing. - The first time a bounty hunter named Lockdown appeared was in Transformers Animated in 2008 and became a massive fan-favorite. So, of course, a live-action movie-fied toy of TFA Lockdown was made, later a bounty hunter named Lockdown appeared in Age of Extinction (AoE for friends) before Lockdown grew into a legit legacy character. - Got all that? Good. Proud of you <3 - What else goes hard is this guy: BSL-01, I gather it's basically Unique Toys' Peru Kill on a slightly restrained budget. 60% of the price for 98% of the quality ain't bad, I'd say. - The things I liked about AoE the movie were few and far between, but Lockdown was absolutely one of them. How am I not going to like a grimdark hunter/killer who waxed apocalyptic about his ethereal employers, looked more human than most Transformers and therefore more alien and transformed into a blackish grey Lambo Aventador? - I imagine it's especially the latter two that challenges a toy designer but this guy knocks it out of the park like a series finale anime protagonist: earth shattered, clouds blown back and the crowd left gasping. It's me, I'm crowd. And clouds. And earth. - This Lockdown is really just on another level.
