The more I took them, the easier it was for me to understand how I could capture an emotion, up-close, and eventually I learnt how to get someone to pose for a shot. Self Portraits also tells you a lot about your current emotional state. Your smile, your eyes, your eyebrows, your cheeks, those micro-expressions that only you’ll understand. A snapshot of your emotional state at that time, on that day. I have severe anxiety problems, it allows me to see where my true emotional state is at in a creative way. I deal with people a lot, and I wear my emotions on my sleeve, so people see all sides of me, and when I’ve had a bad day, it’s really bad. 😔 So, it’s nice for me to look at a photograph of myself smiling from time to time, to remind me that even the shittiest moment will soon pass. 😊 So if you’re into photography, give self portraits a go. It’s not just a lesson in posing or composition, but it’s a way to connect with your emotions, creatively 📷 P.s. I know I’m not smiling here.
