If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then eye cream is the crack filler to the sill. You can tell I’ve never been a bunnings gay can’t you 🫠. I’ve never particularly understood the aversion to eye cream that some people have. Don’t you want to use products catered specifically for one of the most delicate areas on your body? This isn’t a man’s 4 in 1 situation! A lot of brands will carry multiple options for use for the day or night, and @sundayriley is no different. Auto Correct* is your daily glow booster and antioxidant rich defense against the perils of day to day life. 5 Stars* is your night time fortification to head towards skin goals. This is a vitamin a product, but you should be ok, it’s not spicy. Both have a light lotion texture that sits perfectly in that midweight category. Not heavy enough to cause puffiness or pilling, but not so light that the dry down makes your fine lines worse. The eye area is where genetics really come to play. You won’t get rid of dark circles as most of the time they’re from illness, tiredness or genetics. But you can disguise them with a glowy eye cream like Auto Correct*. In the same vein, you’re not going to change the structure of smile lines if that’s the way your muscles and bone naturally contort and stretch the skin. However a retinoid eye cream like 5 Stars* can make them appear more shallow and assist the skin to flex back into place easier. As always, consistency is best, and absolutely patch test. Remember the texture shot from my previous post? Yeah, the same clear, transparent gel that took forever to be captured through my camera lens! That’s @africanbotanics Commiphora Face Cleanser, a gentle exfoliating cleanser that smells amazing!! All thanks to the wonderful, star ingredient Commiphora Wildii, an aromatic resin from the Namibian desert. This antioxidant rich resin has anti-bacterial, rejuvenating, and balancing properties. The cleanser also contains a gentle exfoliating blend of clarifying acids like Lactic (AHA), Mandelic (AHA) and Salicylic (BHA) acids, Niacinamide and the sulfate free, pH balanced formula is made with mild, biodegradable, plant-derived surfactants. A multi-range moisturiser lineup is imperative for all middle to large skincare brands. It’s the perfect way for brands to attract multiple types of customer; both those with different skin types, but also demographically differentiated by age, origin climate, usage, and textural preference. @laneige_anz has recently expanded out their blue hyaluronic line to differentiate the moisturiser line. They now have gel moisturiser*, regular, and intensive* options. The regular option will suit almost anyone, and you can find a review further down my page. So let’s explore the more unique options. I struggle a lot with gel moisturisers. Too often the texture is unpleasantly sticky or has a tight feeling dry down to compensate for consumers who don’t want to feel hydrated. Thankfully laneige has (obviously) avoided these problems and have formulated their gel moisturiser* beautifully. This is a propanediol, glycerin and meadowfoam oil emulsion, plus hyaluronic acid, antioxidant malachite extract, and a few extra ferments. Utterly delightful. However my fave of the line is the intense moisturiser*. This has a cushiony buttery texture that never feels extra heavy and just provides comfort for dry skin. It would also be excellent under makeup, providing perfect emollience for foundation to blend into. This is a thicker base of butylene glycol, cetearyl alcohol and glycerin, with lipids like squalane, myristyl myristate and ceramides. They’ve also included soothing cica extracts: asiaticoside, asiatic and madecassic acid, plus peptides. Gorgeous. What’s your fave of the Laneige blue hyaluronic line? Product categories that I’m starting to integrate now that it’s a lil cooler (finally!!). Cleansing milks and creams are of course a fave all year round, but I become more dedicated to the cause in winter. The @innoxaaus cleansing milk is a brilliant and cost effective option. I particularly love it as a morning wash in the shower. It’s a milky texture, but has enough weight and emollience in the formula that it doesn’t disintegrate into nothing. I always stock up when there’s a sale! A gel to milk cleanser performs a similar role in my routine as a cream, and the @katburkiskincare cleansing gel is of course exquisite. It smells insanely good and has enough lather to make you feel clean (good for oilier folks), but isn’t stripping in the slightest. You could use it to remove light makeup, but I always prefer this as a skin cleanser. Mists layer beautifully into any routine and they’re a great way of adding in hydration, without the heaviness of something like an essence if that’s not your jam. @pixibeauty mists are an underrated classic in their lineup and all are beautiful. The milky is my fave, but for morning it’s gotta be the vitamin wake-up mist*. Zingy, refreshing, and loaded with antioxidants; making it a perfect throughout the day spritz. Richer creams really put in the work through the colder nights, and @theordinary nmf with phytoceramides* is a spectacular choice. The texture is rich and emollient, but it soaks in pleasantly. Leaves enough grease to defend your skin, but not so much that you’re gonna be a pillow slider. Honestly one of the top tier products, and I’d always have a backup on hand. Picture it: southern China, 2015. The full moon glides into the sky, translucent beams dimly illuminate the darkened forest in the valley below where you sit. The rich green leaves of a magnolia tree look almost liquid in the night, their polar white petals shining like stars on the ground. The cry of birds settling into roost dimly echoes around the valley, calming down as the day shift ends, and the night shift begins. You wrap your blanket around yourself and grip the steaming tea cup closely as you enjoy the view and the sounds of the night. That’s what the @thebodyshopanz Full Magnolia gives me. The full flowers range is geared towards exploring the scent of the whole plant. You know I adore the range, and the magnolia I think slots into the line perfectly, a great addition. It sits right into that midweight floral, not going too hard into the citrus or the white floral lines. It’s quite a cool toned scent, with the magnolia not leaning warm at all. Magnolia is of course the main note here, but it’s supported by crisp, herbal rhubarb and soft woods to really embody the full tree. I think the wood is quite soft in the scent, with the rhubarb really being the main supporting act here. It’s a unique blend that I don’t know if I’ve seen elsewhere. In terms of throw and longevity look the body shop scents don’t last the longest on me, but they’re a good option as like a work scent. Decluttering ✨️ skincare and haircare Cleaning more out of my cabinet. The biopoint was a bond repair I found on sale, but it smells so heavy on perfume and made my hair incredibly dry. The ordinary glycolic acid just stings so bad for me. This is the second time I've tried it now and it's still a disaster. I tried using it as a deodorant and it made the skin of my underarms red and inflamed. Just not for me. Hopefully I will remember this and find this post next time I think to try it again 😅 the @theordinary salicylic acid serum expired by the time I could use it up also but I do love it. Same with the @theinkeylist cleanser, it expired before I could use it up as well even though it wasn't that long since I bought it. It also stung and made me break out when it didn't before. But I heard they changed the formula? Has anyone tried this recently and knows? The @kiehls facial cream is a favorite but I bought it from another retailer and it seemed to be old when I bought it. It had a weird texture and would ball up into hard pieces when I used it. I asked Kiehl's about it and they told me not to use it and throw it out. I couldn't return or get a refund so I'm just out the money I spent on it sadly. The sephora collection spot treatment is too harsh for me and the sunscreen had such an unpleasant texture and purple gray cast on my skin that I would go out of my way just to not use it. It feels nice to clean out my skincare stash but it's also disappointing when things just don't work and you can't find another use for it. Blemishes happen to all of us. It’s as real as death and taxes. But yet we seem to fear them almost as much. Pimples are caused by a blockage and infection in a pore, manifesting as red, swollen and with a pus-filled centre. It’s important to note that pimples are not acne, but they can present as part of the acneic infection; along with nodules, cysts and pustules. Skincare cannot treat acne; it’s a medical problem and therefore not the domain of a blogger such as myself. It’s also important to note that you cannot blame extraneous items like specific skincare products, ingredients, or diet on pimples. Skin is so unique that a blanket cut out approach rarely works. Hormones, failure to remove makeup or spf, pollution and stress are far more likely to blame. And when you’re confused, a skincare book is a great investment! Check out Your Best Skin by Hannah English. That being said, we can attempt to treat individual pimples when they invariably appear. That’s where the pimple patch pops up. I love that @peaceoutskincare at @sephoraaus have rebranded theirs to the early stage spot patches*. The previous name referred to acne which is a medical claim you are unable to make in Australia. Early stage is perfect because it’s all in the name; pimples should be treated as early as possible. Pimple patches consist of an adhesive patch that delivers a concentrated active in a targeted manner, directly onto the spot. Typically they have some level of microdart technology as a delivery system as well. In most cases, including this one, the active is salicylic acid. Peace out have blended this with soothing madecassoside, niacinamide, trehalose and hyaluronic acid. There’s extra exfoliation from mandelic and succinic acid. But make no mistake, salicylic is the true hero here. It’s a lipid soluble acid that can travel down the hair follicle into the pore; loosening buildup and subsequently assisting to dispersing it. The earlier the better in terms of application; so when you feel a pimple forming, whack on a patch to start treating as soon as possible. Hopefully mitigating the effects. Let’s discuss the new launch from @muradskincareaus : the cellular hydration line*. Now you know I adore Murad and their lines; I generally find that you get excellent results from their products, but that they are perhaps not always the most elegant texturally This line however, is a delight through and through; from the packaging, to the consistency, to the results. The serum* is everything you need for hydration and plumping up dehydrated skin as a result. It has a beautiful complex of hyaluronic acid, urea, glycerin, trehalose, inositol and pullulan to trap hydration within the skin. Then a blend of bilberry and avocado oils assist to trap the hydration within the skin. Bilberry additionally gives you some extra antioxidant benefits. Your firming comes into play with restoring peptides and amino acids. Gorgeous and the perfect treatment accompaniment to something stronger like vit c or a retinoid. In terms of a light, hydration based moisturiser, you can’t beat the repair cream*. This is an incredibly elegant gel-cream texture that prioritizes keeping skin nourished, happy and healthy. It’s a squalane and glycerin blended base with extra antioxidants niacinamide, ascorbyl palmitate and bilberry oil. There’s also soothing Hydroxyphenyl Propamidobenzoic acid, a blend of candelilla, jojoba and rice bran esters, plus betaine. A gorg combo. My fave however, has to be the sleep mask*; in my eyes the hero of the line. It is the most beautifully emollient and protective texture. Think barrier cream with emollience, but not overt heaviness. This has glycerin and squalane again, but boosted with Shea butter, triglycerides, linoleic acid and phytosterols. You’ve also got extra soothing from betaine, allantoin, erythritol, Hydroxyphenyl Propamidobenzoic Acid, and Sunflower wax. If you try anything from the line, add this to cart immediately. Some new additions to my life (and beauty cupboard). @tbhskincare_ have just launched their no scrubs jelly cleanser and don’t think that I know the claim I’m making when I say that it’s probably in the top three chemist brand cleansers available now. It is spectacular. A jelly texture that transforms into a milk when emulsified with water. It’s probably oily enough when massaged to remove light makeup, but I’d reach for a balm or oil for heavy makeup. Has a light, fresh scent that isn’t intrusive in any way. @sundayriley have made a specialty out of crafting luxe, active oils that work to deliver the active ingredients to the skin in a more gentle way than with a straight up water based serum. The ceo glow oil* is the newest one I’ve tried. It’s a lightly textured oil with a slight spicy scent that gives you the glow of vitamin c (combined with oil glow obvs) but no spice. If you’re dry this would be good for day otherwise it’s a night treatment. The @pollennationskin pollen plumper moisturiser* is the first product I’ve tried from this Aussie honey-based line. It’s nice! A light lotion texture that is aimed towards brightening but with a nod to soothing and hydration. It does have a strong honey scent (unsurprisingly) so if that’s not your bag steer clear. It’s not a scent I’m especially drawn by but fortunately the product texturally is delightful enough to keep me using. I look forward to see what comes next! There are a few key brands that have delved deep into active sphere as their pod, @alliesofskin is one of them, and naturally I place trust in them. The retinal and peptide repair cream is where you turn if you want a good firming treatment, and have the budget.
