The impact that J Dilla had on my life is immeasurable, but if there was a small way to quantify it it would be by the number of records I own by him/the ones he had a hand in producing. Missing some that I know I have, but you get the idea. It was primarily his music that got me through the time after my mom’s passing. Just diving into all the source material and how he used it consumed most of my being. After well over a hundred listens Donuts still moves me to the point of tears. His beats still feel as fresh as ever, his music defies time. I could go on and on endlessly, but if you know you know. Dilla is my GOAT. And nothing will ever change that. So around this time 7 years ago I bumped into @mredmeade at a “Dilla changed my life” event in London. The same event, I was sat near Dilla’s mum in the VIP area and had no idea. Anyway the next day I got asked if I wanted to warm up for the guy that introduced Dilla to the MPC @amp_fiddler. Of course I do cos I love anything Dilla/Yancey. Anyway fast forward to this year and I’ve been asked to play at a Dilla tribute at the museum.
