Here is another from the Seattle trip. I visited Fat Cat Records on my first day and pulled this Gil Melle Verve. I felt this record was familiar to me. I’d give it a 30% chance I already own it. Where it’s buried, who knows. So, on the other 70% chance I don’t have it, I bought it. Quite a cool experimental, free jazz record. Lots of electronic sounds. I’m not sure what Gil’s old friends at Blue Note would have thought of it but we’re sure fortunate that Verve released it. As for @fatcatrecordsus, great store. My visit was two days before RSD and they were reorganizing. It was controlled chaos. I doubt I saw a fraction of their stock but was fortunate to grab the Melle. Also the cool cat (not fat at all) working the counter was kind enough to release a new store shirt a couple days early for me. Apologies for the suitcase related wrinkles. Solid store. If I get back to Seattle one day it’ll be on my list to visit. I doubt however they will still have the OG copy of the Stones “Some Girls” still in the shrink that I left behind. Oh the regrets. Sunday Dubwise 🏝Leggo Dub 🔊 Sometimes called Gregory Isaacs Dub this album is almost entirely made up of rhythms from Gregory Isaacs - Mr. Isaacs album. I’ve posted about this album before so today we are focusing on one track in particular. 20+ years ago Heartbeat Records released a compilation of dubs from producer Jack Ruby and to this day it is probably my most played set of dubwise. The last track on the A side was just labeled as “Track 20” and over the years was one that I kept coming back to. As far as laid back dubwise goes it ranks it is one of my favorites. Fast forward to a few months ago, I realized that the dub titled “Bubble Up Style” on Leggo Dub is in fact the same rhythm as “Track 20” but is mixed very differently and likely by someone else. Anyway, Im not aware of an original vocal for it although one may exist. Either way it’s a beauty of a rhythm one worth checking out.
