The piece showcases not only the strong sense of community, but also pays tribute to the famous artists that performed in local establishments (Etta James and Chuck Berry to name a few). Finally able to add this masterpiece to my collection thanks to @discogs and an independent Michigan record store holding down a nice copy for a good price. It just arrived yesterday as I couldn’t resist the buy when the mans bday passed last month. I missed this sold out seminal work from @illajyanceyboy when it first dropped with @deliciousvinyl in 2008 and it wouldn’t be until a decade later that I was really put on to John’s music through his work on @jakartarecords with @calvinvalentine . He quickly became one of my favourite artists and I’ve been after this inaugural collaborative record he did with his big bro’s beats ever since. This album is a stone cold classic with features from @franknitt @guiltysimpson @affioncrockett @debinova & some choice beats from the king 👑 ... Being a few years younger than John myself, the heyday of @officialjdilla was a bit before my time, although unknowingly I was indeed a fan through his work with @atcq @erykahbadu @theroots @common @thedangelo @pharcydetv & @officialslumvillage , I ignorantly never clued into the behind the scenes work tying so much great music to the man Jay Dee and hadn’t really got around to his solo work. It was falling in love with the music of illa J that truly pushed me to dive into the legacy of J Dilla, where my appreciation continued to deepen with my understanding of the artist, his music & his impact. This afternoon the Little Rock Arkansas Marine Officer Selection Station Candidates received a humbling and inspirational tour of the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History. Featured in the amazing tour led by Chip Culpepper, was the heroism of Captain John H. Yancey, USMC. Captain John H. Yancey, Arkansas Native, was a highly decorated United States Marines Corps combat veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He received two Navy Crosses, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts.
