Today June 25th, is the International Day of the Seafarer. It acknowledges the crucial role played by seafarers in international trade, the global economy, and society as a whole. It also emphasizes their significant efforts in safeguarding the marine environment. Afiemo Johnson is studying for a BSc in Marine Engineering & COC, offered by the Arab Academy for Science Technology and Maritime Transport in Athens. He also provides excellent support for our immigration department. He recently returned from his 6-months sea training as an Engine Cadet. On the ship he worked closely with the 2nd Engineer his assigned trainer/supervisor. The training covered ship manoeuvring, operation and repairs of machinery as well as planned maintenance on all equipment including compressors, pumps purifiers etc. He was also in charge of paperwork concerning the engine room such as maintenance/repairs report, cold or hot work permits, risk assessments for jobs to be carried out. We thank Unibros Shipping Nigeria, for this great opportunity to provide our young cadets with training and sea time. Bilang isa sa mga pinaka-mapanganib na propesyon, ang epektibong pagsasanay ay kasinghalaga ng pagtatasa sa pagganap. See the line where the sky meets the sea, it calls me 🌊⛴ . I may be a day late, but it’s a day to celebrate non the less. June 25th is International Day of the Seafarer and I am so blessed to be part of the population that this day celebrates. . On this day, my heart also goes out to the thousands of crew members still stuck at sea, currently unable to go home to their friends and family. Please keep these crew in your thoughts and prayers, don’t forget that they are still stranded at sea amongst all this chaos. I hope that they all stay safe and healthy and keep their mentality strong as we have had some tragedies amongst our fellow crew since this pandemic begun. . An to update you all, I am one of the lucky ones who have made it home. I arrived back in Australia on the 16th June, and I am currently completing my two weeks of quarantine in a hotel before I can return ‘home home’. I can’t wait to get out of this hotel room, breathe fresh air, walk on stable land, and drive my car for as long as I want 😝 buuuuuuuuuut I can’t wait till this all settles down and I can return to my floating home again 💙 . Stay safe, stay sane, wear your mask, and keep the magic alive 💙🤍❤️✨

Essential to shipping and essential to the World, today we recognise our Seafarers for the key workers that they are. From discovery to present day, St Helena's history was moulded from it's maritime roots and for 515 years, the only connection to the outside world was via cargo and passenger vessels. The RMS St Helena was coined as the Island's lifeline and many still hold fond memories of their voyages.
