We know race, inequity, + privilege aren't always the easiest topics to discuss. We've spent years of our friendship developing deep love + respect for one another so we can tackle these bigger topics openly from our hearts.⠀ ⠀ Wherever we are on our journey, we have to keep in mind that sometimes we will stumble. We will say the wrong thing, we may unintentionally misgender someone, we may be told that a behavior we thought benign is actually quite harmful.⠀ ⠀ Know that this is all a part of the process. We've been in the shame spirals + wanting to defend ourselves when getting called out.⠀ ⠀ We found that at the end of that road came an awakening + transformation of self.⠀ ⠀ Instead of operating from a place of guilt or shame, we started to see ourselves as members of a larger human community where our actions affect others, whether they were intentional or not.⠀ ⠀ We learned to say "I'm sorry."⠀ We learned to say "Thank you for telling me."⠀ We learned to say "I'll correct that now + in the future."⠀ We learned to say "I need to learn more about this."⠀ ⠀ We learned it wasn't personal, rather that we're personally responsible to be better. 💞

Showing up is a practice. ⠀ By being present with what's going on inside of ourselves, we can have more power over how we respond externally.⠀ ⠀ Pay close attention this holiday season. If you're at a gathering and hear something that doesn't sit right with you, notice your inner reflex. Is it to stay quiet? Leave the room? Brush it off?⠀ Let's challenge ourselves to break out of our shell and counter that reflex with a new response.⠀ ⠀ A simple, "I'm sorry, can you repeat that?" is a gentle way to insert yourself into a conversation before sharing why an idea or statement is problematic and/or harmful.⠀ ⠀ Trust us: YOU GOT THIS!

Historically -- and in the not-so-distant past -- the feminist movement has really been a push for white women to have the same rights as white men. It has willingly left out BIPOC women, trans women, and any others who fall outside the mainstream normalized identity of white lady. ⠀ ⠀ Take some time to reflect today on ways to show up for ALL women. Women who've been victim of domestic violence. Black women. Women who speak English as a second language. Womxn. ⠀ ⠀ Our advocacy must extend to all humans, all genders, all identities, because none of us are free until all of us are free. 💗
White supremacy wants us alone. Dependent on no one but ourselves. It values INDIVIDUALISM which feeds into isolation and loneliness.
