Another strong finish evaporated but we’re focused on closing the deal at @officialmidohio! Here is what Takuma had to say: . “We had a good start but the balance was not really what we needed so we had to stop a little bit early in the sequence but it was working out okay. Ultimately, we got hit from behind and had so much damage. I tried to hang in there but ultimately couldn’t do it. I’m sorry for the boys who did a great job and all the fans that remained tonight. It was a shame. Ryan and Will were side by side and I was directly behind. I had to back off a little bit and it was all under control but unfortunately the guy behind maybe couldn’t see it.”
Sage said it best... "This is a tough one to take for sure, especially being one of the fastest cars on-track tonight..." Ultimately, the Iowa 300 was a bit of a mixed bag. Practice and qualifying showcased Sage's winning knowledge of Iowa Speedway's 7/8 mile circuit, qualifying 14th. However, come main event time, while speeds and driving were on point, an early incident in turn four coupled with a red-flag rain delay, followed by an on-track incident summated in retiring the car on lap 187 of 300. That's racing! Obviously, retiring the car is not the preferred result; we couldn't be happier with Sage's on-track performance. He showed pace and ability that validated his capacity of being a top tier driver. Dominant Iowa victory extends Newgarden’s lead to 29 with 5 races remaining. Only 5 races remain in the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series season and Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden leads Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi by 29 points. Rossi dominated the upcoming races from Mid-Ohio and Pocono and Josef Newgarden has been strong at St. Louis before, with Portland being added to the schedule last season and Laguna Seca being added on to the calendar for the first time since 2007. Newgarden’s teammate of Simon Pagenaud and 5-time and defending champion of Scott Dixon lurk behind at 58 and 98 points back.
