I made the decision this morning to remain in the gratitude that I live in so freely, outside of professional responsibilities. The anxiety of Sunday night feels in consideration of the things that I deal with M-F started settling in, and returned before the alarm clock could go off. The kids noticed a peculiar sight in the clouds as we returned home yesterday. I didn’t give it much thought because I was more concerned about parking carefully and watching for other cars. But what we saw was a vertical rainbow in the middle of the sky, that had a bright shining light in the center of it. This wasn’t the sun - the sun was clear across the sky on on a different side, shining its own light. The light piercing in the middle of this rainbow reminded me of what happens when you take a magnifying glass and use sunlight to cause a reaction. It was almost as if there was a mirror positioned in the middle of this rainbow strip, reflecting the light from the sun. Again, the evening continues and I don’t think any more about it. Jr. brings it up again over the phone while talking to my husband. My husband jokingly says “it could’ve been a UFO maybe, you know they’re watching us👀” This morning taking Jr. to school, with a very hope-filled, encouraging, and inspiring playlist playing inside the truck, there’s that vertical rainbow again! 😳🌈 As I was giving Jr. a pop-quiz recounting the story of Noah’s ark, as the words left my lips, BOOM-it hit me; God was trying o get my attention. “AHEM, HELLO, KIA I got you! I haven’t forgotten, this thing you’re in is coming to an end, your promises are still on the way. I know you can’t see it, but you can see Me. I’m with you.” I needed that! Whoever needs it today. It’s on the way! In life, we evolve. Seasons come and go, they bring us many joys and pains. I’m convinced that it is more true that people entering marriage believe in a tolerable version of “for worse,” and give lighter thought to just how thick “for worse” can really get when they get there. They may rely on believing they’ll be the exact same person they are when they exchange vows, when they arrive at “for worse.” A revelation I acknowledged with a friend while filming @chipchatternchill recently, is that we have to be relentless in seeing both ourselves and the people we love, for who they will be, after and beyond “for worse.” If they show fruits of growth and they refuse to abuse grace, be relentless and brave to protect them through their fears, and love the hell out of them. The hell that will birth sorrow, doubts, confusion, pain, uncertainty, and fear during some of the toughest seasons. If you really love them, love the hell out of them. This warfare is difficult, but they are worth it. Relationships are work. ALL relationships require work. This is in large part due to the fact that humans are on a never-ending journey of self-discovery, and unlearning. Especially my age group, we inherited this notion that you should be successful, settled, and developed in certain life compartments by a certain age, primarily ours. When lots of us aren’t. We bring unhealthy and non-functional parts of our conditioning into relationships assuming they’re just supposed to work, and when we don’t, we experience failure, resistance, and frustration. Just because the notion is you should “be his (or her) peace,” doesn’t mean you automatically know how to, just as my name means Peace Giver, it hasn’t always come naturally for me in the past. I’ve learned you have to have your own sure sense of peace, before you can share any with another soul. It’s embracing your flaws. Coming to terms with your biggest life lessons. Being mindful. Understanding how you choose to give love, isn’t necessarily how people prefer to receive it (love languages). It’s acknowledging the flawed human aspect. Forgiving yourself, and then applying growth. It’s being determined to humbly understand that term “unconditional” on a daily basis. Once you get a grip on your own peace, you can then give it. I’m thankful to understand this so I can live it, there’s no turning back for me. My household stands firm on this, “if it ain’t peace, it ain’t welcome.” We’re committed to keeping peace in our lives, and support those who are also committed to their own.

If you’ve come from a bonus family, or cultivated one of your own, you know it’s many levels to maintenance, communication, growth, and mindfulness, just to name a few things. #SelfCare on a Saturday sometimes looks like THIS! Don’t act like you’ve never fallen asleep while trying to be a productive parent!😂 These girls here make TONS of mess during playtime. Wanna know a secret?! SHH: Don’t tell my husband, LOL! I LOWkey don’t mind the mess- why? They’re exploring, being innovative, imaginative, creative and I want them to fully discover their strengths, even if it means temporary mess. In fact, when you make it a fun, collaborative effort, your kids can actually enjoy helping to clean up! If you’ve been searching for a little encouragement or a way to pump their energy up for cleaning, here’s a few things you’re welcome to try: 1- Set a cleaning routine 1-2xs/day: this gives kids consistent expectation that tidying up always comes along with play time, and keeps them less caught off-guard when you make the switch from play to clean. 2- make up your own clean up song: this one’s a no brainer, make it fun! All the kids’ favorite movies and shows have theme songs, clean up time should, too! A break-dancing session may begin, brace yourself LOL 3- Celebrate their efforts with cheer & excitement: when Zariah tidies up well, I make a big deal. It doesn’t take long for Zahari to get motivated because she wants some of the praise, too 😉 4- Give them different tasks/spaces: it gears their little hands and minds towards developing managerial skills & gives them a sense of independence and opportunity to develop responsibility. I came across a graphic targeted at moms recently that drew me. In so many words, it said that healthy parenting should include experiences that allow your children to see you working towards a goal, apologizing when needed, being silly/having fun, trying/learning new things, taking care of your health, and doing what you love. To celebrate the ones in my heart is an honor and an exciting pleasure I don’t take for granted. Nkrumah Jr. had the time of his life in spite of social distancing and quarantine life for his 9th birthday 1/16/21!! We celebrated all weekend long doing his favorite things. I’m impressed that at an early age, he truly values family time. Thank you to his village for showing up and giving him so much love!
