I made the mistake of reading the comment section on a news article recently, where someone mentioned homeschooling (not the topic of of the article,) and all the regular, mean things were said about homeschoolers. It makes me sad that so many people hold such a negative view of homeschoolers, maybe without even knowing any homeschooling families. It is amazing to me that adults can hold so tightly to opinions about topics of which they know so little, or have had no direct experience. At the same time, homeschool parents can be really mean about conventional school, which is equally unnecessary. And it is absolutely flabbergasting that *adults* don’t seem to understand that not every parent or family has the choice to homeschool. Or that it’s totally acceptable if they just don’t want to! We each make our schooling choice for our own family. I don’t understand people who try to sway parents’ opinions on this. “Well, you should homeschool, it’s better!” Ok, yes, homeschooling is better FOR US. But would it be better for the person I’m talking to, whose children are thriving in public schools? It’s just nuts to me. That being said, Monday mornings are the days I am most happy to be a homeschooling family, as I sit on the porch with my coffee, planning our day, and the whole house sleeps in after the good, long weekend. Nadayab is 14 ! My sweet girl . Talented and amazing. Nadayab was the first baby I would give birth to completely by myself. It was just her and I . Held her in my arms along with her detached placenta on her back and named her Tamayah Nadayab ( God is Good and Gracious). Doctors said our labor was dangerous, we both could have bled out because of her placenta detaching....yet, we made it to the other side unharmed. Sharing her with the world was never anything I wanted to do but here we are. I have six children two of whom are adults and far away from needing or wanting my care. But in this space and time I'm cherishing what I have left of each of their childhoods. Emptiness syndrome is real especially through the years I had to spend away from my children looking for work and to make ends meet been feeling it alot more the past couple of years.
