The nunnery was born from the inspiration and kindness of Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche. In 1979, these lamas invited two young women who had just escaped from Tibet to join their monastery in Kathmandu. These women became part of the growing community of nuns living and studying at Kopan Monastery. In 1990, land was acquired to build the nunnery on a hill below Kopan. The nunnery officially opened its doors in 1994. At that time, 125 nuns moved to their new home. Over the next two decades, it developed into one of the largest nunneries in Nepal. With Lama Yeshe they started from scratch and look what they did: they blessed us in the most limitless ways 🙏. So many Lamas came to honour Rinpoche, so many students came from all the world and how about all the others who were praying from their home places 🌌... The day closed with a beautiful light offerings led by Geshe Tenzin Zopa la, beautiful meditation on empty of self/emptiness of self/interdependence as true existence, ultimate antidote and healing.
