Him, who embodies love, peace, compassion and wisdom. So kind, gentle and humble. He looked into my eyes, held my hands and touched my face. His presence like a kind grandfather with a smile like a little boy, full of joy and happiness. ✨ As I stepped away from him, I couldn’t hold it longer and burst into tears (of bliss) 🥹 I also recently attended one of the teachings of His Holiness where he emphasized that the only way to happiness and inner peace is to reduce selfishness and practice compassion by wishing others to be happy, but also by helping others to find their happiness. Naturally Arisen A Syllable on the Skullcup Brought by Yap Tenpa'i Nyima, Bhutan One of the sacred objects preserved at Dungkar Urgyen Chöling, Pemagatshel Dzongkhag, is a skullcup with a self-originated A syllable on the front side; it is said there is also a sun and moon as well as a wishfulfilling tree an the backside. The monastery founded by the descendants of great treasure revealer Pema Lingpa and Lhase Tsangma in 1569 was visited by Yap Tenpa'i Nyima aka the 18th Thronholder of Ralung, Drugpa Mipham Tenpa'i Nyima ('brug pa mi pham bstan pa'i nyi ma, 1567 1619), who brought this skull with him. He is called Yab Tenpa'i Nyima or Father Tenpa'i Nyima because he was the father of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal (zhabs drung ngag dbang rnam rgyal, 1594-1651), one of the two incarnations of the fourth Drugchen, contributed to unite Bhutan as a state. The skullcup known as Athöd (a thod), the Skullcup with the A Syllable, is displayed twice a year, on the 10th day of the 3rd month at Dungkhar Goenpa and on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Bhutanese calendar at Khar Community Lhakhang. Il apparaît ici sous l’un de ses nombreux aspects, celui du "porteur d’armes" (Shastadhara), à huit têtes, seize bras et quatre jambes, dont deux sont en posture de danse… Hevajra, une divinité complexe et aux multiples facettes du bouddhisme Vajrayana, symbolise l'incarnation de la sagesse éclairée, de la compassion et de la transformation. Son symbolisme est profondément enraciné dans les traditions ésotériques du Tantra, notamment dans la tradition bouddhiste tibétaine. Once used as a form of communication—to share one’s relationship status or religious affiliation—108 Braids is now also a tribute to the region’s heritage. Once braided, hair is adorned with all manner of earthy ornaments, like pine cones, coral, and turquoise, each woven into the braids to denote a milestone in life. Shantideva (Sanskrit), Shiwa Lha (Tibetan) was a great scholar, monk, and saint from Nalanda Monastery in ancient India who was the head of over 500 pandits. Having mastered the teachings, he practised them internally, without any outward display of high spiritual attainments because he was extremely humble. This led others in the monastery to think that he only ate, slept, and defecated rather than striving to live by the Buddha’s teachings. In their eyes, he was a disgrace because they saw him doing nothing while everyone else busied themselves studying, debating, engaging in pujas, or teaching. Although they wanted him expelled from the monastery, he had done nothing wrong, so they made a new rule. Each student in the monastery had to give a teaching, and due to his humility, Shantideva was apprehensive at the prospect. However, the other monks built him a grand throne in a field, thinking that he would not be able to teach and would be disgraced into leaving Nalanda. To their great surprise, Shantideva gave a profound explanation on the Bodhisattvacharyavatara or Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, a text which he himself had composed. When he reached the fourth verse of the ninth chapter, he levitated off the throne and rose so high into the air that he could no longer be seen, though he could still be heard until he finished the teaching. The monks of Nalanda realised their mistake in thinking so lowly of an attained master and set out all over India to find him, as he never returned to Nalanda Monastery. When they finally came across him at the Stupa of Sri Dakshina in South India, they invited him back, but he refused. Instead, he answered their questions on the Dharma and gave them transmissions of his teachings. Oct 24 is the birthday anniversary of writer and explorer Alexandra David-Néel, born in Saint-Mandé, France, in 1868. “She had an unhappy childhood, the only child of bitter parents who fought all the time. She tried running away over and over, starting when she was two years old. As a teenager, she traveled by herself through European countries, including a bike trip across Spain. When she was 21, she inherited money from her parents, and she used it all to go to Sri Lanka. She worked as an opera singer for a while to finance her travels. She was especially interested in Buddhism. She disguised herself as a Tibetan woman and managed to get into the city of Lhasa, which at that time was off-limits to foreigners. She became fluent in Tibetan, met the Dalai Lama, practiced meditation and yoga, and trekked through the Himalayas, where she survived by eating the leather off her boots and once saved herself in a snowstorm with a meditation that increases body temperature. She became a Tantric lama in Tibet when she was 52 years old. And she wrote about it all. Her most famous book is Magic and Mystery in Tibet (1929), in which she wrote: ‘Then it was springtime in the cloudy Himalayas. Nine hundred feet below my cave, rhododendrons blossomed. I climbed barren mountain-tops. Long tramps led me to desolate valleys studded with translucent lakes...Solitude, solitude!...Mind and senses develop their sensibility in this contemplative life made up of continual observations and reflections. Does one become a visionary or, rather, is it not that one has been blind until then?’ She died in 1969, at the age of 101, a few months after renewing her passport. The relative truth in which all types of experiences unfold - good and bad, virtuous and non virtuous, pleasant and painful, awakened and confused. This truth also includes all the spiritual trainings that take an ordinary being along the path to the state of awakening itself. And there is the ultimate truth, in which it is realized that all the phenomena experienced on the relative level are in their most fundamental state. Manjushree says “unborn, unarisen, unreal.”this is the true experience by awakening beings. Still, even though awakened beings still perceive the unborn, unarisen and unreal nature of all phenomena, they actively participate in the relative aspect of things. For people in times of degeneration, tobacco is an obstacle on the path to liberation. This powerful demon is the summation of all bad omens. Inauspicious, it creates obstacles to progress on the paths and bhūmis. In the past, in India, the wonderful land of the noble ones, When the most excellent teacher, the peerless king of the sages, Set in motion the Dharma wheels of the four categories of teachings, The demon king Garab Wangchuk, Consumed with jealousy, made three attempts to obstruct him. But at the time, around the peerless muni and his sons and daughters, The fire of primordial wisdom of the embodiment of omniscience and love was blazing, And the māra’s baleful efforts were foiled. This affair brought the demons to extreme desperation, So unbearable they let tears of blood roll to the ground. As the seventh drop reached the ground, they made the following aspiration: “May these prayers bring forth a plant which will grow near Vaiśalī, A plant with flowers flat and blue, a cubit high. Though inedible, when inhaled through the nose The five poisonous, destructive emotions will surge, And all discipline and vinaya precepts Taught in the eighty-four thousand sections of teachings, and by Gautama, will deteriorate!” This is the strong prayer the demons made at this time. Here was the result. Some time later, the plant arose from the ground on a land near Vaiśalī. There was an evil minister by the name of Raktavarṇa, and a lady called Dharmasāṃkaryā who, Overwhelmed with desire, lay down in an embrace by that plant.
