Upon leaving Bordeaux we stopped at 2 Chateaus. The first was Chateau Marquis d’Alesme where we had a tour and did a wine tasting. Then we drove an hour to ChateauCote de Baleau where we were treated to a “Chic picnic”. Both were unique experiences which could be totally customized. I loved both! Day 5 Today was another amazing day! We got to visit a very special village AND had a private tour by the Mayor himself! The underground church was like literally stepping back in time! Officially listed as one of « The Most Beautiful Villages in France» since 1993, it has welcomed pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella in north west Spain, visitors and tourists for over 1000 years. We had a very special evening with dinner in the cellar of this historic restaurant with the current owner who shared interesting stories of people who have eaten there over the years. They will be celebrating their 200th anniversary next year and a book is being written about the history of restaurant. I can’t wait to read it! We ended the night riding around Bordeaux in classic cars! Oh what a night! Founded in 1825, the Chapon Fin was one of the first ever three-star restaurants (it was one of the first 33 establishments to be awarded three stars by Michelin in 1933). Our final hotel visit and stay in Bordeaux was at the Hotel Burdigala. It became the first 5 star hotel in Bordeaux in 2010. It recently underwent renovations and reopened in July 2023. There are 83 rooms, 2 game rooms, a spa, restaurant, breakfast/bar and snack area and a Cinema! Day 1 I was totally blown away by this exhibit! The history of this building is amazing! Digital art from Vermeer to Van Gogh in a former German World War II submarine base. In Bordeaux’s former submarine base, Culturespaces created a digital art center in 2020. Disney Cruise Line is heading to Europe in 2025! The Disney Fantasy will spend its first summer season in Europe in summer 2025, visiting incredible European destinations from Northern Europe to the Mediterranean from May to late July. Five- to 12-night sailings from Barcelona, Spain and Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy will call on picturesque ports of call throughout the Mediterranean, while one special 12-night sailing to the Greek Isles will feature three stops in Greece, two in Italy and the season’s only stop in Valetta, Malta.
