Have you heard of ICM, or Intentional Camera Movement? It’s a creative way to use long exposure photography by deliberately moving your camera while the shutter is open. 🔴 Set your camera to a slow shutter speed. 🔴 Move your camera as you capture the shot. Forget about using a tripod or aiming for sharp shutter speeds. This technique is all about embracing the fluid, dynamic movement to transform your photos. Elements in the frame will appear to float, gaining a dreamy, abstract quality as they blur. The longer the exposure, the more surreal the effect. Have you tried ICM or is it on your list to explore? I’d love to hear your thoughts! . . . #photographyforbeginners #beginnerphotographytips #landscapephotographytips #learnphotographyskills #learnphotographytips #beginnerphotography #beginnerphotographer #practicalphotography #photographytip #cameracoffeecabernet #keepclicking #joyofphotography #sunriseandcoffee #photographyblog

📷 Love photographing flowers and plants? 🌷🌱Then don’t ignore what’s going on behind them! Swipe 👉 to see my 4 creative ways to make the most of your backgrounds. Discover how you can do this too, in the caption ⬇️ ⚡️Sometimes a blurry background just isn’t enough! ⚡️ Remember to treat it as a separate and equally important feature of your shot. ⚡️ There are so many ways to make it look more exciting and inject an added layer of interest to your photos. ⚡️ Here are 4️⃣ of my favourite techniques for creating captivating backgrounds! 🌷The contextual background. Places your main subject in its setting. Can form a link by using similar shapes or colours. 🌿 The white background. This is like photographing your subject on a giant lightbox; except in this case, you’re using the sky. Don’t be scared to drastically overexpose your image, but just make sure you don’t lose any important details. ☀️Filtered light. A long lens, a large aperture and some light streaming through foliage will create magical bokeh - this is by far my favourite! 🌟 🎨 Painterly backgrounds. Look for areas behind your flower that have a smooth, even tone, with no distracting shapes, blobs of light or other unwanted elements. Join an adventure with Tom and Cree Bol to the Costa Rican Rainforest to photograph colorful mammals, birds, reptiles and plants. Expect to wake up each morning listening to scarlet macaws in the almond trees near your room, and howler monkeys ‘howling’ in the distance. The resort grounds include an estuary with breeding snowy egrets, green herons, green kingfishers and boat-billed herons. Other trails lead to the beach and through the forest where you will see toucans and perhaps a sloth hanging in the trees. Golden-headed Caracaras and roadside hawks are common, and you can practice your panning technique as they fly past your room. https://photographyworkshopsabroad.com/directory/costa-rica-rainforest/ #photographyworkshop #photographyworkshops #photographyworkshopforbeginners #photographyworkshopsandretreats #PhotographyWorkshops #photographyworkshops #photographytours #phototours #phototours4u #phototoursdirectory #learnphotography #learnphotographytips #learnphotographyskills #placestophotograph

Let's talk about the importance of composition. 🌿📸 Why does composition take centre stage? It's the silent storyteller, the invisible guide that shapes how we feel and what we see in every shot. Beyond the technical, beyond the settings, composition is our canvas, our voice. 🌀 It Guides the Viewer’s Eye: The right composition draws the viewer in, leading them through the scene you've captured, making every element intentional. 🌀 It Sets the Tone: Every choice in framing, every decision on what stays in or out of the frame, it all adds up to create mood, emotion, and atmosphere. 🌀 It Elevates the Subject: A well-composed shot elevates the subject, making the ordinary extraordinary, and the extraordinary unforgettable. This isn't about rigid rules or textbook techniques. It's about the choices that turn a photo into a story, a moment into a memory. Whether you're capturing the vastness of a landscape or the intimacy of a hidden nook, composition is your most powerful tool. Embrace it, experiment with it, and watch as it transforms your photography. Let’s explore the endless possibilities composition holds, together. 🌟 Here's to seeing the world through your lens, uniquely shaped by your perspective. 🍃 . . . #photographycomposition #photocomposition #ruleofthirds #ruleofthirdsphotography #leadinglines #leadinglinesphotography #symmetryphotography #landscapephotographycomposition #photographyforbeginners #beginnerphotographytips #landscapephotographytips #learnphotographyskills #learnphotographytips #beginnerphotography #beginnerphotographer #cameracoffeecabernet #keepclicking #joyofphotography #sunriseandcoffee

And just like that, we are halfway through autumn - how did that happen? Autumn is the favourite season for many photographers and it's easy to see why. The colours are ever changing, weather is quite mild, the days are starting to get shorter so sunrise and sunsets are at more reasonable hours, and the light can be oh so soft and moody. Photographing autumn can be a bit tricky however - compositions can be difficult due to the mess, it's not always easy to find great spots, and your photos can be a bit dra as the camera can fail to capture the vibrant colours. Swipe for my basic gear and starting settings for Autumn landscape photos. Read my blog to see my favourite tips, ideas and settings for capturing those fabulous autumn colours: just head to the 'hello' link in my bio then search for 'autumn'. . . . #autumncolours #autumnphotography #photographyforbeginners #beginnerphotographytips #landscapephotographytips #learnphotographyskills #learnphotographytips #beginnerphotography #beginnerphotographer #photographycomposition #photocomposition #photographyjourney #photographybts #loveofphotography #photographyinspo #photographyinspiration #cameracoffeecabernet #keepclicking #joyofphotography

Let's talk about the composition technique of a frame within a frame in landscape photography, and how to use it to improve your compositions. Landscape photography is all about presenting what you see in a way that resonates with the viewer, and the frame within a frame technique is a great way to improve your storytelling. The use of frames within frames can enhance the most mundane scene and draw the viewer's attention to the main subject. You can also add depth and context to your imagery by doing this. It’s not complicated, but it's like an old friend that you can count on more often than you might imagine. While you ‘frame’ every photo when you are taking shots, here I am referring to composing a photo where you place your subject within a ‘frame’ inside your image. By using frame within a frame in your landscape photography, you are using a composition technique that helps you direct your viewer’s attention directly to your subject. You can use a number of different natural elements to frame your composition such as trees, mountains and valleys, along with man made objects including architecture, fences, bridges and arches etc. Opportunities to use framing in your landscape photography are literally everywhere! For more ideas on using one of my fave compositional techniques, head to the 'Hello' link in bio and search for 'frame'. . . . #photographycomposition #photocomposition #photographyforbeginners #beginnerphotographytips #landscapephotographytips #learnphotographyskills #learnphotographytips #beginnerphotography #beginnerphotographer #landscapelove #beautifullandscapes #landscapephotographyaustralia #naturephotographylover #australianphotography #landscapephotographylovers #cameracoffeecabernet #keepclicking #joyofphotography

//DETAILS// ● Sharing some invaluable tips I took when I visited the Madrasa Ben Youssef during a bustling period. Discover how to turn crowded chaos into captivating imagery! 1. Change Your Perspective: Explore different angles and viewpoints to avoid capturing crowds directly. Look for unique vantage points or shoot from higher ground to minimise the presence of people in your frame. 2. Focus on Details: Instead of wide shots of the entire attraction, focus on capturing smaller details or architectural features that convey the essence of the place without including too many people. 3. Embrace the Crowd: Sometimes, incorporating the hustle and bustle of tourists can add a sense of liveliness and energy to your photos. Embrace the crowd as part of the scene and use them to tell a story about the popularity and significance of the destination. Remember, photographing busy tourist destinations can be challenging but also rewarding. With a bit of creativity and patience, you can capture stunning images that showcase the beauty and uniqueness of the place. . . . . . #photographytipsandtricks #aspiringphotographer #photographytips #captured #tipsphotography #exploremorocco #visitmorocco #marrakech #learnphotographytips #editedphoto #photographyenthusiast #photography_lovers #photographyisart

Is it light or composition that truly makes a photo stand out? 🌄🖼️ It's a question many photographers ponder. In my experience, both are incredibly important in their own ways. Great light can transform an ordinary scene into something extraordinary. Yet, if the composition doesn't tell a story or capture the essence of the moment, the photo might still feel lacking. And while we can't always choose our lighting, we do have control over our composition. Even in less than perfect light, a thoughtful composition can make an image compelling. It’s not just about technical perfection. Yes, exposure and focus matter, but it's often the composition that leaves a lasting visual impact. It’s what turns a good photo into a great one. I love having full creativity with a clients work. In this instance, @fionascottmedia and I had spoken about the stories they were going to engage with over the next few months. I went back to the office with a list of titles and adjectives. I invested in some bespoke cutouts from Cotswolds company who do laser cut work, then set to painting the pieces in the brand colours. Yes, this is time consuming now, but I will add these to my box of other bits I’ve done over the years and I can use again in the future. Then a day in full on dedication of working through the list my clients wanted visuals for their marketing and online use. I know these will be unique to my client, and they won’t need to worry about someone else stealing their images once they are online. Are you a business that would value this kind of work? How about learning how to do this for yourself! High-dynamic-range (HDR) is a method utilized to capture a wider range of brightness levels than standard digital imaging or photography techniques allow. This approach can also be employed to merge multiple exposures for the purpose of creating visually striking tableau scenes. In a photography course, students were tasked with taking three photographs that encompassed the complete spectrum of brightness in a selected scene, including properly exposed highlights, shadows, and mid-tones. @roobhaa @digiartcat #photographyurban #learnphotographyskills #portraitphotography #learnphotographytips #learnphotographyanddigitaldarkroom #learnphotographycanada #photographyschool #photographyschools #photographyschoolcanada #photographyschoolbc #kelowna

While there's no such thing as 'magic settings', there are some things I tend to set and forget before heading out for a sunrise shoot. Having any exposure settings dialed in is a little trickier, but have a look before you pop your camera in your bag anyway. I normally check that my ISO is on 100. As I'm usually on a tripod this is a given, but as I was out yesterday visiting the zoo I had it set on auto. And if you're into astro you don't want to forget this and take all your sunrise images with a ridiculously high ISO. Found this helpful? Follow for more ideas and inspo. Thoughts on sharing camera settings with images. Do you find it helpful or does it not matter? I think it can be a double-edged sword. While it can be helpful for newbies totally new to get an idea, you will never be able to 'replicate' an image based on settings alone: 📷 The light will always be different 📷 The movement in your scene will always be different 📷 What you want to achieve may be different However, I do think it gives a good starting point - I remember what it was like arriving at a location with no idea where to even start. Having a rough settings guide in my head (or on a trusty piece of paper or phone notes) can be really helpful. Let me know - helpful or not? And for this image - ISO 100, F11, SS 0.4 🙂. Finding Your Photography Style Do you have a definite style, and do you even need one? It's not always easy to define, but your style will generally develop naturally from the things you are drawn to and repeat with your photography over time. One way to get started is to spend some time reviewing the favourite photos that you have taken. Create a collection and take a good look at them. Do you see any patterns in what you are most drawn to? Try not to overthink this – you will automatically be drawn to your own inherent tastes. Some things to consider can include: 📷 Subject – are there common subjects you like to photograph? People, landscapes, nature, wildlife, buildings, flowers, birds etc. 📷 Movement – do you like action shots or static scenes? 📷 What about focal length? Do you like close up or more room around your subjects? 📷 Angles and composition – do you like to shoot from above, below or straight on? 📷 Atmosphere and lighting – is there a particular time of day or season/conditions you prefer? Do you like to have everything sharp in the photo or prefer softer backgrounds? 📷 Colour – Are there any particular colours or tones that frequent your collection? You may prefer black and white over bright, colourful scenes. This can often come through in the way you edit your images. As long as you focus on what you love, and what inspires you, I believe your style will naturally form a consistent style. And even better, developing your own photography style is a journey. There is never a final destination. To stay the same would be incredibly boring – there are always new styles and innovations to discover and explore. These will all evolve and help us to express how we see the world with our cameras – what a wonderful way to grow! Was this helpful? Follow me for more ... Is This An Award Winning Image? Of course not! Did I have fun trying something new? I sure did. I was way out of my comfort zone as I ventured down to Sydney to capture these elusive fruit bats – they're incredibly fast! But I decided to just have fun and see what I could get. We all want that 'perfect' shot, but that's not always realistic, is it? Photographing something well takes loads of skill and practice, so I wasn't expecting miracles. In the end, I'm chuffed with this 'almost sharp' photo. I spent plenty of time just soaking in the experience and watching these fascinating creatures. And with the mercury hitting over 40 degrees Celsius, finding some shade was a smart move! During weekends, I thoroughly enjoy taking leisurely walks with my friends, family, and my trusty camera. Although the weather may not always be picture-perfect, with cloudy skies instead of clear blue ones, I make the most of it by capturing stunning images of flowers using my reliable 50mm lens. This approach also works wonders when I'm teaching others photography techniques. By engaging in conversations, exploring different locations, and clicking away, my students learn effectively and have a memorable experience. #PhotographyPassion #CaptureTheMoment #commercialphotography #learnphotography #learnphotographyskills #learnphotographyonline #learnphotographytips #depthoffield #depthoffieldphotographer #photographycomposition #naturephotography #naturephoto #naturephotos #naturephotographer

One of the biggest frustrations I had when I first started was the amount of blurry shots I had to delete. You can have great light, and a perfect composition, but if your photos aren’t sharp they are basically useless. There’s nothing quite like a photo being gour of focus or blurry to completely ruin it. It’s incredibly obvious to most of us when a photo isn’t sharp - and spoiler alert, if it’s blurry, this is something that post-processing can’t help a lot with. There are a few reasons your photos aren’t sharp: 📷 Out of focus 📷 Camera blur 📷 Motion blur 📷 The wrong camera settings 📷 Dirty lenses or filters Want to know how to fix these simple problems? It’s really not that hard when you know how. Just head to the ‘On The Blog’ link in my bio and search ‘sharp’. I hope you find this helpful. This an old coal jetty at Catherine Hill Bay near the Central Coast, NSW, is a popular spot for photographers, and it's easy to see why. But can be a challenge finding a new perspective on a location that you've been to several times and is a popular photography spot. Having been here several times, I was looking for something a bit different, and i'm happy with this - it combines a couple of techniques: 📷 Leading line of the jetty leading off into the horizon 📷 The rule of thirds with the placement of the horizon 📷 Framing of the rocks which is my favourite part of this image I'm not saying that I'm the only one who's ever shot it from this angle, but it's definitely not your usual. Arrive early and stay late - part one - be the early bird. The time you head out can significantly impact the photos you capture. You're likely familiar with the 'golden hour', those precious moments around sunrise and sunset known for their beautiful colours and soft light. But there's more to explore. The 'blue hour', occurring before sunrise and after sunset, offers its own unique beauty. Take this imag #sunriseandcoffee It was one of the first I captured on this particular morning, taken well before the actual sunrise. So, consider setting your alarm half an hour earlier - it's truly worth it! Using flash lighting with flower petals can create stunning close-up compositions with vibrant colors. The combination of the bright flash and delicate petals results in visually striking images. By illuminating the petals with a flash, you can capture their intricate details, texture, and patterns. The flash also enhances the colors of the petals, making them appear more vibrant. Whether photographing a single petal or a cluster of flowers, incorporating flash lighting adds a touch of magic to compositions. At the core of every memorable shot isn't the camera or the lens - it's the eyes and heart behind them. This little reminder by Peter Adams resonates deeply with what we often discuss: the true instrument of photography is the photographer. As you reflect on your journey, consider the moments where your intuition, not your equipment, captured something truly special. Have those instances become part of your approach? I'd love to hear about them. " I sat for hours staring at this one photo, and I still don’t know why. However, what I do know is that I am an automotive photographer, I started doing abstract photography here&there and incorporated my love for monochrome photography. The inspiration came from Jacques-André Boiffard and his weird portfolio of feet photos.
