Happy Friday friends! We are SO happy to have you all here and we’re so happy about all of the feedback we’ve gotten from the podcast. ☺️ We have some amazing episodes coming, so stay tuned! 🤩 We figured we’d start off #fridayintroductions by introducing one of our co-hosts of the Creative Moms Focus podcast, Jessica! Hey everyone, I’m Jessica! I am a full service maternity, family, and newborn/baby photographer based in Warrenton, Virginia and serving the greater Northern Virginia and Washington DC areas. I am the mama to two sweet boys - my 5 year old, Brayden, and my 2.5 year old, Grayson. When I’m not photographing sessions, editing, or recording podcast episodes, I’m running around somewhere with these two sweethearts. 👉🏻 (swipe to photo 2) I started homeschooling my oldest this year and it has been a whirlwind, but I wouldn’t change it for the world! When I started photography back in 2013, I was doing weddings. I introduced portraits into my business in 2018 when I got pregnant with my oldest and realized I wanted my weekends back. I had my last wedding ever in 2021 and while I miss how fun they are, I love being able to have my weekends with my boys. 💙 Fun fact about me: I’m originally from California but grew up in a military family which is how I eventually ended up on the East coast. 😉 I am so excited for this podcast and to grow this community with you all! Thank you all SO much for being here!! If you want to hear a little more about all 3 of us, head to the link in our bio and go listen to episode 1. ☺️ Photo number two: @beccaallenphotography

Have you heard of ICM, or Intentional Camera Movement? It’s a creative way to use long exposure photography by deliberately moving your camera while the shutter is open. 🔴 Set your camera to a slow shutter speed. 🔴 Move your camera as you capture the shot. Forget about using a tripod or aiming for sharp shutter speeds. This technique is all about embracing the fluid, dynamic movement to transform your photos. Elements in the frame will appear to float, gaining a dreamy, abstract quality as they blur. The longer the exposure, the more surreal the effect. Have you tried ICM or is it on your list to explore? I’d love to hear your thoughts! . . . #photographyforbeginners #beginnerphotographytips #landscapephotographytips #learnphotographyskills #learnphotographytips #beginnerphotography #beginnerphotographer #practicalphotography #photographytip #cameracoffeecabernet #keepclicking #joyofphotography #sunriseandcoffee #photographyblog

BEST SETTINGS FOR PORTRAITS We all want to nail our portraits and create images that really tells the story of the person we are photographing. The thing is though, after fumbling through your settings, trying to nail your focus and get the lighting right, it can sometimes be hard to still have time and creative energy left over to story tell. How many times have you found yourself apologising to someone when you are photographing them because you felt like you were taking too long to get your settings right that you just killed the mood? Or how many times have you just reverted back to shooting in Auto because you got so lost in your settings that you panicked and thought that was your only way out….only to be disappointed with what your camera has captured in Auto? We have all been there. In fact, that is where we all start! Let me help you get your head around your settings for portraits with my super easy way of setting my camera and in an order you will always remember. Shooting in manual: Fstop – smallest available to you (this will depend on your lens and will sit somewhere between 1.8 and 4) Shutter Speed – 1/250 for a still subject Iso – Put your camera onto live view and increase until you have the right brightness Use those same settings in that same order each time and I can guarantee you manual shooting with you will easily click and you will soon be on your way to calm and meaningful shooting. Now of course when you are ready to learn to shoot in manual - I am always right here for you with my in person Beginner Photography Workshops. This 5 hour in person workshop will teach you what took me years to learn on my way to becoming a professional photographer. You will receive 1:1 camera set up and shooting guidance from me, a take home workbook and you will learn: - shooting in manual - f stop, iso, shutter speed - creating natural light portraits - white balance - super fast and sharp focus TOOWOOMBA - 11th May (4 seats left) BALLARAT - 1st June (1 seat left) WANDOAN - 15th June (4 seats left) To join a workshop near you, please click on the link in my bio x

Today while I was doing a bit of gardening I thought, “This is so cool to be disconnected.”⁣ ⁣ I am SO guilty of distractions:⁣ 🍂 Radio on at home in the background ⁣ 🍂 Podcasts on in the car ⁣ 🍂 Working on my laptop at night⁣ 🍂 On my phone in bed ⁣ ⁣ It was such a nice feeling to just be without all that.⁣ ⁣ This is also what happens to me when I'm out photographing and get in the zone. No urgency about what I need to do next or what I forgot to do or what time it was. You know how it is…⁣ Is that what it's like for you? What are your best ways of disconnecting?! . . . #photographyjourney #loveofphotography #photographyinspo #photographyinspiration #joyofphotography #sunriseandcoffee #photographyblog #learningphotography #learnphotography #beginnerphotographytips #landscapephotographytips

Isn't it wonderful how much you can discover when you allow yourself to start something new? Just like I've recently picked up crochet again after many years, and believe me, I've undone more than I've completed, but it's so much fun. The same goes for landscape photography - it opens up a world of beauty and creativity, especially when you approach it with the curiosity of a beginner. Landscape photography offers a unique opportunity to connect with the natural world, learning with each shot you take. Embrace learning with each shot you take, explore different techniques, make mistakes, and grow. Every misstep is simply part of your journey. What are you excited to capture next, knowing that it’s okay to not get it perfect right away? . . . #photographyquotes #photographyjourney #loveofphotography #photographyinspo #photographyinspiration #joyofphotography #sunriseandcoffee #photographyblog #learningphotography #learnphotography #beginnerphotographytips #landscapephotographytips

How to improve your photography without learning how to shoot in manual. It’s a confusing and overwhelming thing trying to learn how to shoot in manual on your own – I personally am self taught in photography and added years to my creative growth figuring out the basics of photography all by myself. Yeah, shooting in manual will revolutionise the way you shoot but there are stepping stones you can jump along the way to make everything a little easier. Here it is: On your shooting mode dial (usually on the top of your camera) you can change what mode you shoot in. You will have letters like P, AV, S, TV, M …. Or something along those lines. All of those letters are different shooting modes and when you set your camera to one of them, you can step out of Auto and start to walk towards shooting in manual. Here’s what the three main ones can do for you: AV (or non green A if you are shooting on a Nikon) – aperture priority. You can choose your f stop (or aperture) while your camera takes care of the rest of your settings. TV (or S for Nikons) – Shutter Speed priority Set your shutter speed with your main dial and your camera will handle your other settings. Here are some easy settings to try: AV mode – f4 and 411 – take two photos of the same thing at the same distance on these two different f stops and notice the difference in the blur of your background TV mode – 1/50 and 1/400 – capture a moving subject (even just water from your tap) at these two different shutter speeds and notice how much more detail is captured with a bigger number shutter speed. Use AV in your everyday shooting when you are capturing portraits to blur your background and TV if you are shooting fast action and want to make sure you freeze that movement for a sharper image. Photography education can be simple and this is exactly why I am here for you! If you want to learn how to shoot on your camera as a beginner or hobbyist, join me at one of my beginner workshops at the locations below: TOOWOOMBA - 11th May BALLARAT - 1st June WANDOAN - 15th May Click on the link in my bio to join a workshop near you now x

Creative Moms Focus started when the 3 of us created our very own little community on @voxer ! If you haven’t heard of Voxer, we love it so much, especially as busy mamas who are always on the go. It allows us to speak to each other and have a conversation, but on our own time. Short (or long) voice messages allowing us to brain dump all the ideas, questions, and concerns we want to get across to each other. We loved voice messaging inside of IG, but it drove us nuts that it’s limited to 1 minute. 🤣 As busy mamas, we all know how limited our time is, so some of our best work is done in those little in between (school, sessions, editing, etc) moments that don’t always allow for a phone/video call. But you’re not restricted to using your hands so it’s easy to chat back and forth while doing the dishes or even shopping! 😉 Have you heard of voxer?! Maybe you already use it? Or are you heading to the App Store to download it now?! 🏃‍♀️

TRY THIS BEFORE SHOOTING IN MANUAL We all want to be the masters of our own cameras and have complete creative control over the images we are creating. Shooting in manual does this for us and so much more! But, it’s a lot to learn isn’t it? You can be forgiven for feeling overwhelmed trying to learn everything that goes into shooting in manual and for even going back to shooting in Auto when it all gets too much. Lord knows I did that many times before mastering manual shooting. If you do a feeling flustered over learning manual, try a stepping stone inbetween Auto in Manual. There are preset shooting modes on your camera that allow you to control one aspect of shooting while your camera takes care of the rest. You can control either f stop, shutter speed or iso in these shooting modes. When you are able to concentrate on just one setting and allow your camera to handle the rest it allows you to more quickly understand how the different settings affect your image and get your head around how to effectively use it in your shooting. Try these AV or NON GREEN A – APERTURE PRIORITY You control just your F stop S OR TV – SHUTTER SPEED PRIORITY You control your shutter speed P – PROGRAMMED AUTO You control your iso Now of course when you are ready to learn to shoot in manual - I am always right here for you with my in person Beginner Photography Workshops. This 5 hour in person workshop will teach you what took me years to learn on my way to becoming a professional photographer. You will receive 1:1 camera set up and shooting guidance from me, a take home workbook and you will learn: - shooting in manual - f stop, iso, shutter speed - creating natural light portraits - white balance - super fast and sharp focus TOOWOOMBA - 11th May (4 seats left) BALLARAT - 1st June (1 seat left) WANDOAN - 15th June (4 seats left) To join a workshop near you, please click on the link in my bio x #learnphotography #beginnerphotography #toowoombaphotographer #ballaratphotographer #beginnerphotographytips #cameratipsandtricks

Let's talk about the importance of composition. 🌿📸 Why does composition take centre stage? It's the silent storyteller, the invisible guide that shapes how we feel and what we see in every shot. Beyond the technical, beyond the settings, composition is our canvas, our voice. 🌀 It Guides the Viewer’s Eye: The right composition draws the viewer in, leading them through the scene you've captured, making every element intentional. 🌀 It Sets the Tone: Every choice in framing, every decision on what stays in or out of the frame, it all adds up to create mood, emotion, and atmosphere. 🌀 It Elevates the Subject: A well-composed shot elevates the subject, making the ordinary extraordinary, and the extraordinary unforgettable. This isn't about rigid rules or textbook techniques. It's about the choices that turn a photo into a story, a moment into a memory. Whether you're capturing the vastness of a landscape or the intimacy of a hidden nook, composition is your most powerful tool. Embrace it, experiment with it, and watch as it transforms your photography. Let’s explore the endless possibilities composition holds, together. 🌟 Here's to seeing the world through your lens, uniquely shaped by your perspective. 🍃 . . . #photographycomposition #photocomposition #ruleofthirds #ruleofthirdsphotography #leadinglines #leadinglinesphotography #symmetryphotography #landscapephotographycomposition #photographyforbeginners #beginnerphotographytips #landscapephotographytips #learnphotographyskills #learnphotographytips #beginnerphotography #beginnerphotographer #cameracoffeecabernet #keepclicking #joyofphotography #sunriseandcoffee

And just like that, we are halfway through autumn - how did that happen? Autumn is the favourite season for many photographers and it's easy to see why. The colours are ever changing, weather is quite mild, the days are starting to get shorter so sunrise and sunsets are at more reasonable hours, and the light can be oh so soft and moody. Photographing autumn can be a bit tricky however - compositions can be difficult due to the mess, it's not always easy to find great spots, and your photos can be a bit dra as the camera can fail to capture the vibrant colours. Swipe for my basic gear and starting settings for Autumn landscape photos. Read my blog to see my favourite tips, ideas and settings for capturing those fabulous autumn colours: just head to the 'hello' link in my bio then search for 'autumn'. . . . #autumncolours #autumnphotography #photographyforbeginners #beginnerphotographytips #landscapephotographytips #learnphotographyskills #learnphotographytips #beginnerphotography #beginnerphotographer #photographycomposition #photocomposition #photographyjourney #photographybts #loveofphotography #photographyinspo #photographyinspiration #cameracoffeecabernet #keepclicking #joyofphotography

Professional photographers will tell you to shoot in RAW most of the time...but why? Incorporating RAW into your workflow allows for flexibility and heavier photo processing. JPEG can be great if you're just getting started with photography, or if you don't need to edit your photos as much. In the end, the choice is yours. Don't let an influencer tell you what is right or wrong. Your decision should be based on your use case. #photographytips #raw #jpeg #workflows #mediatips #photoediting #photoeditingtips #editingtips #mediaproduction #beginnerphotography #beginnerphotographer #beginnerphotographytips

Think about using layers in your images to add depth and a more compelling image. By breaking up your composition into foreground, midground and background you'll create a more balanced and interesting image. If it's by the ocean for example, the sky can be your background, the ocean your midground, and then the beach or rocks, waves can be your foreground. Just this simple technique can help you if you don't know where to start. . . . #photographycomposition #photocomposition #ruleofthirds #ruleofthirdsphotography #leadinglines #leadinglinesphotography #symmetryphotography #landscapephotographycomposition #phototipsandtricks #photographytipsforbeginners #learnphotography #beginnerphotographytips #landscapephotographytips #phototips #photographybasics #cameracoffeecabernet #keepclicking #joyofphotography #sunriseandcoffee

Let's talk about the composition technique of a frame within a frame in landscape photography, and how to use it to improve your compositions. Landscape photography is all about presenting what you see in a way that resonates with the viewer, and the frame within a frame technique is a great way to improve your storytelling. The use of frames within frames can enhance the most mundane scene and draw the viewer's attention to the main subject. You can also add depth and context to your imagery by doing this. It’s not complicated, but it's like an old friend that you can count on more often than you might imagine. While you ‘frame’ every photo when you are taking shots, here I am referring to composing a photo where you place your subject within a ‘frame’ inside your image. By using frame within a frame in your landscape photography, you are using a composition technique that helps you direct your viewer’s attention directly to your subject. You can use a number of different natural elements to frame your composition such as trees, mountains and valleys, along with man made objects including architecture, fences, bridges and arches etc. Opportunities to use framing in your landscape photography are literally everywhere! For more ideas on using one of my fave compositional techniques, head to the 'Hello' link in bio and search for 'frame'. . . . #photographycomposition #photocomposition #photographyforbeginners #beginnerphotographytips #landscapephotographytips #learnphotographyskills #learnphotographytips #beginnerphotography #beginnerphotographer #landscapelove #beautifullandscapes #landscapephotographyaustralia #naturephotographylover #australianphotography #landscapephotographylovers #cameracoffeecabernet #keepclicking #joyofphotography

Oh....hey...it's not a reel (don't worry I'll post that one soon) but I wanted to share some of my first bird in flight photos! Swipe ⬅️ to see!! 😀 The red tailed hawk came swooping in while I was trying to photograph a cardinal on a bush below. It was incredible to witness...the whole mood of the birds around went from peaceful to a chaotic choir of fearful bird calls! What an experience! 🤯 This guy stayed perched on the cross for some time but I didn't dare get any closer lest I scare him away. Unfortunately, after a few minutes a car came down the nearby road. Seeing that in the distance I readied myself, knowing the hawk would take off. I kept the shutter speed high and switched the AF to follow the subject. In moments like this, the adrenaline is pumping and it's easy to forget your camera settings. Now I know what that is like! I've missed many shots fiddling around with settings 🤦‍♂️. That being said the more you practice the better you get. I wish the lighting was on the other side to illuminate the front of the hawk, but I didn't have a choice in this manner. It was an opportunistic photo and I am very happy I got it! 🙂 #shotoncanon @canonusa #birdinflightphotography #bird_watchers_daily #birdinflight #newenglandphotography #naturephotography #wildlifephotography #wildlife #birdsofnewengland #birdsofinstagram #raw_birds #beginnerphotographytips #photobasics

So this quote is by an American painter, but composition is composition I think, whether it's painting , photography or many other expressions of art. And a lot of the so-called 'rules', or techniques as I'd rather call them, are based around lines if you think about it: 📷 Rule Of Thirds 📷 Leading Lines 📷 Framing Each technique, or line should add to your composition and help to build the story in your image. Leading lines are one of my favourites to look for in a composition, and they are really quite simple to incorporate once you start looking for them ... Want to know more about composition? Head to the 'Hello' link in my bio and search for composition - lots of helpful articles there. . . . #photographyquotes #ruleofthirds #ruleofthirdsphotography #leadinglines #leadinglinesphotography #symmetryphotography #landscapephotographycomposition #phototipsandtricks #photographytipsforbeginners #learnphotography #beginnerphotographytips #landscapephotographytips #phototips #photographybasics #photoblog #photoblogger #cameracoffeecabernet #keepclicking #joyofphotography

Is it light or composition that truly makes a photo stand out? 🌄🖼️ It's a question many photographers ponder. In my experience, both are incredibly important in their own ways. Great light can transform an ordinary scene into something extraordinary. Yet, if the composition doesn't tell a story or capture the essence of the moment, the photo might still feel lacking. And while we can't always choose our lighting, we do have control over our composition. Even in less than perfect light, a thoughtful composition can make an image compelling. It’s not just about technical perfection. Yes, exposure and focus matter, but it's often the composition that leaves a lasting visual impact. It’s what turns a good photo into a great one. Let's talk about finding compositions in the dark - this is for you sunrise lovers - it can be a challenge. Clearly it would be ideal if you've been able to scout the location beforehand, but this is not always possible. Running around with a torch or headlamp can be a really good way to instantly get in the bad books of any other photographers that are there. This is where using your phone or camera with the ISO turned right up can be really handy. It may sound obvious, but I'd never done this with my camera until a couple of years ago, and it truly was a game changer. Just don't forget to reset it when you do actually set up! Don't you just love conflicting thoughts? Photography is full of it! Just a couple of weeks ago I posted about 'if in doubt, zoom out' which is true. This quote be a famous photographer is also true! Quite often with landscapes we are faced with a magnificent vista and we want to capture it all. BUT, the camera often isn't able to capture the grandeur of such a scene, so we're left with a boring/blah image. SO, zoom or move in if you can, and pick pockets of that magnificent scene and go for some different compositions. STILL, take those wide shots to grab all that glory, but mix it up! You can't take too many photos, right?!? ENGAGED COUPLES! Here is one of the BIGGEST wedding regrets I see people make… don’t make it too! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hiring an inexperienced photographer or having a friend or family member take wedding photos for free. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here’s why it can be a BIG mistake… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Photos are the ONLY tangible thing you pay for and will walk away with after your day is over. While there are tons of inexperienced photographers out there that charge way less or even photographers willing to shoot for free, skimping on something SO important can hurt you in the long run! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Think about it.. HOPEFULLY whoever you’d get would do an ok job, but what if they don’t? What if they don’t know what they’re doing, don’t know anything about editing, miss important shots, don’t know to back up their photos, or even just completely don’t show up?? I hate to say it because we all start out somewhere but I have seen these horror stories play out🫣 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Remember, these will be your wedding photos FOREVER. You should hire someone who’s done the work to educate themselves, who backs up all of their work, who has a solid contract that benefits both them AND you, and who will do everything to ensure that your day is commemorated exactly the way you envisioned. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You would be surprised by how many couples have told me they deeply regret choosing a super inexperienced wedding photographer, or having a friend or family member take their photos for free. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Quality photography is sooo freaking worth it. You deserve your story to be told in a really powerful way by a professional whose experience and expertise will allow you to relive your day for years to come! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you are searching for a photographer to capture your big day, look no further! Say hi in the comments & let’s start talking about your day 🥰

Hello April! New month, new theme: Composition. 🌅 While exposure is a game of numbers, composition is more subjective. It's about how you arrange the elements in your shot, and there’s no strict 'right' way to do it. You might have heard about having 'a good eye' for photography. Some people naturally 'see' the potential in a scene. I wasn't one of those people. Composition was a challenge for me, but I learned it's something you can improve on. Here are some of the things I’ll be diving into this month: 📷 The Subject: Identifying and emphasising the main purpose of your photo. 📷 Rule of Thirds: The classic guideline for balancing your shots. 📷 Leading Lines: Using natural and man-made lines to guide the viewer’s eye. 📷 Frame Within a Frame: Creating depth and interest with elements within your scene. 📷 Layers and Foreground Interest: Adding depth to your landscapes and drawing the viewer in. 📷 Keeping It Simple: Deciding what to leave out is just as important as what to include. We’ll explore these techniques and more, proving that while some may have a natural eye, the rest of us can definitely catch up with practice. Whether composition comes to you naturally or it's something you're working to grasp, lets explore some of the ways we can improve our storytelling with our lenses. BIGGEST MISCONCEPTIONS OF BEING A PHOTOGRAPHER?! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ All we do is point and shoot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Cue other fellow photographers cringing. 😬 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Listen, I absolutely love my job, and this isn’t me trying to feel sorry for myself AT ALL, but I’ve spend SO MUCH time and money perfecting my craft and my style, and learning all about photography and composition and cameras and lighting, etc… So I’m just gonna say it - having a camera does not make someone a photographer and there is SO MUCH that goes into being a great wedding photographer! 😂 So I wanted to take a sec to list out all the steps it takes me from the moment you send your inquiry to the moment you open that final gallery! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉🏼Prepare for the session with questionnaires 👉🏼Do multiple video chats to get to know you and nail down the vibes you’re after 👉🏼Location scouting 👉🏼If I’m shooting your wedding, I will help you set up your wedding day timeline and iron out all of those details 👉🏼Create a list of prompts to help get you guys out of your shell during your session 👉🏼Show up on the day of with good energy, ready to rock your world! 👉🏼Backup images to multiple hard drives to keep your photos safe 👉🏼Cull images 👉🏼Spend hours upon hours editing 👉🏼Double check every image and spot correct 👉🏼Export and upload into your online gallery ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That’s a doozy of a list! While yes, what you see may be just the click of a button, there’s soooo much more behind it and I love it alllll. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Being a photographer usually means we wear quite a few hats. And I’ll be honest, sometimes it’s hard to keep my head on straight. 😂😅 But I’m SO grateful for this job and for my clients and I wouldn’t trade a single thing. If you’re a photographer, what are your thoughts on this topic?!

LET'S PLAY A LITTLE GAME, Shall we?! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2 truths and a lie- WEDDING EDITION ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Okay so I'm not gunna lie (well, I will in a second lol), I've seen some stuff in the few years since becoming a full time wedding photographer.. And I think some of these stories will make for a great game of 2 truths and a lie! Soooo, here we go! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Over the span of 48 hours, I once drove from Southern California to San Francisco. slept at a hotel for the night, woke up & photographed a wedding all of day 2 then immediately drove home that night & didn’t arrive home till 4am 👌🏼 I really wanted to be there when my babies woke up 🤷🏼‍♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. I am photographing an elopement in Fiji later this year 😭🥰😍🌴 I can’t talk much about this or I literally start sobbing. It’s an absolute dream come true. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. I photographed the weddings of 6 different couples all in the same friend group 🥰😂 literally the biggest honor ever that they all loved me so much, that every single couple in the friend group hired me 😭 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Alright, now you've got to guess which one you think is the lie! Honestly, it's not as easy as you might think #Weddingphotographer #weddingphotography #photographersofinstagram #weddingday #theknot #weddingphoto #weddingdress #engagement #greenweddingshoes #destinationweddingphotographer #shesaidyes #prewedding #photographytricks #lookslikefilm #reelsofinstagram #muchlove_ig #elopementlove #photog #instawedding #junebugweddings #beginnerphotographytips #photographytips #photographytipsandtricks #southerncaliforniaphotographer #sandiegoweddingphotography #sandiegoweddingphotographer #temeculaweddingphotographer #temeculaweddingphotography #palmspringsweddingphotographer

Including people in your landscape images - yes or no? I wasn’t always keen on including people in my landscape photos. It felt a bit like I was intruding on nature’s pure scene. Yet, as time went on, I saw how a person could transform the shot. It’s not just about adding a bit of life; it’s about showing scale and making the scene more relatable. Now, I sometimes add a human element to my landscapes, and it’s fascinating to see how it invites the viewer in, making them part of the story. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Time for mama to shine!! Let’s be real, the mamas in our life are often the unsung hero’s. They do so so much for everyone in their life and it can honestly be intimidating to try to find a gift that will measure up. Well as a mom myself, let me let you in on a pretty well known secret! We want to freeze the memories of our babies in time. We want to be in front of the lens when more often than not we are the one behind it. We want our kids to have pictures to treasure when we are long gone. We want to litter our house with pictures of all our favorite smiles on the faces of our favorite humans. It’s really that simple. And you may be thinking “cristeal of course you would say that, you are a photographer” And sure, photos are pretty dang important to me for that reason but the real reason photography became so important to me is because I am the kid that has very very few photos with my dad and when he passed I realized how important it is to take photos with your loved ones while you can. So this is your sign to book a shoot for the mama in your life, or if you are a mama reading this - treat yourself to a gift you will cherish forever 🥰 If you are reading this and saying sign me up, I want you to say “I’m in” in the comments and I will send you the link to snag your mini 🥰 #Weddingphotographer  #weddingphotography  #photographersofinstagram  #weddingday  #theknot  #weddingphoto  #weddingdress  #engagement  #greenweddingshoes  #destinationweddingphotographer  #shesaidyes  #prewedding  #photographytricks  #lookslikefilm  #reelsofinstagram  #muchlove_ig  #elopementlove  #photog  #instawedding  #junebugweddings  #beginnerphotographytips  #photographytips  #photographytipsandtricks #southerncaliforniaphotographer #sandiegoweddingphotography #sandiegoweddingphotographer #temeculaweddingphotographer #temeculaweddingphotography #palmspringsweddingphotographer

〰️Stretch Marks 〰️ One of the first sacrifices we make for our babies. While they are growing, nestling, stretching, rolling and turning within our bellies, our skins stretches and pulls to accommodate them ❤️ These lines are signs of our strength. When in doubt - zoom out! This is something I heard recently and thought it a good little phrase to remember. When you're caught up in the moment, and there's so much to think about, it can be really helpful to set your composition, and then zoom out a little if you can. It just gives you a bit of 'wriggle room' when you get home, and are processing your images. Much easier to crop in a bit than add to your image - let's not get into all the new AI tools (as good as they may be). Thoughts? If you haven’t failed, have you even really tried? Our photography journeys are full of moments where equipment lets us down, important gear is forgotten, or the weather turns against us. These experiences, familiar to many of us, are not just obstacles. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, photography doesn’t go as planned. Sh*t happens, as they say, and it might feel like all is lost, but it doesn’t have to be that way. They are opportunities to learn and improve. In this article, I share how we can embrace these fails and use them to enhance our photography skills. Interested in reading more? Head to the 'On The Blog' link in my bio. While there's no such thing as 'magic settings', there are some things I tend to set and forget before heading out for a sunrise shoot. Having any exposure settings dialed in is a little trickier, but have a look before you pop your camera in your bag anyway. I normally check that my ISO is on 100. As I'm usually on a tripod this is a given, but as I was out yesterday visiting the zoo I had it set on auto. And if you're into astro you don't want to forget this and take all your sunrise images with a ridiculously high ISO. Found this helpful? Follow for more ideas and inspo. Super clean beauty still life from last summer. This lighting is a base overhead setup I teach photographers, as it is adaptable and flexible. A hard bare head (in this case a snoot) does most of the work and creates the hard shadow. A second light, very low, coming through a diff screen creates the shape and fill on the right. A simple white or silver reflector is then employed to shape the metals on the left… bouncing the fill light. So simple, yet very powerful. Super styling to match the mood from @styledbyemmakay with art direction from @_elcreative and production from @ella_peers #productphotographer #beautyproductphotography #beautystilllife #stilllifephoto #stilllifelighting #lightingdiagram #studiolighting #beginnerphotographytips

In photography, colour plays a very important role. 🤔🗯️ Understanding how colours interact when used in photography might help you produce beautiful pictures. Take into account the mood you want your shot to portray. Choosing colours that match the mood you want to convey is important because they can evoke feelings in viewers. Yup you guessed it- I've got a post all about colour. Link in the Bio
