I have been a father now for 10 days. While they have been challenging days, they have also been some of the best days of my life. Nothing I have ever experienced compares to the pure love and joy I feel when I hold little Lola in my arms. Today is also my 31st birthday. This past year has been abnormally transformative for me. I changed careers, bought a house, bought a new car, and had a baby! While I worked hard for everything I have today, there’s no way I could have done it without the constant love and support from my beautiful wife and life partner @natalievillalon. Together we have built this little family, and I could not be more grateful! 8 months looks like … Personal hygiene has become a luxury now that Luna can no long be plonked on her platter (aka- large square pillow from the middle aisle of Lidl) with the reassurance that she will still be there when I exit. Rolling & shuffling means that naturally, only things that can choke her, electrocute her, or course serve head trauma are appealing and as my intrusive thoughts already keep me a prisoner to the sympathetic nervous system, I choose to forgo the shower so as not to risk any of them becoming a reality. On the flip side, while I barely get time to flirt with a wet flannel, Luna gets to frequent time with her ablutions multiple times a day as garnishing her ear holes with sweet potato and using Avocado as a hair mask have become her favourite hobbies. She also requires far more stimulation now, which to be honest, I am grateful for as there is only so much dancing fruits one can endure even on a rainy day. Though with two out of every three outings resulting in some kind of comment from complete strangers regarding my face ‘You have peanut butter on your face’ (it wasn’t peanut butter) ‘You only have one eyebrow drawn on’, or ‘You haven’t rubbed in the foundation layered under your eyes’ does make me question whether I have stooped to a new level of aesthetic standard where maybe I should reassess some of my public appearances. The last few months of Motherhood seem to mainly have consisted of sending nipple trauma memes to mum friends on Whatsapp while periodically announcing the arrival of yet another tooth 🦷 followed by this emoji —->😐. Justification to old ladies in the park as to why my daughter is not wearing socks. Hours of making farm yard noises to the point I end up sending friends random voice notes just to remind myself I can construct a sentence. Sadly, this mostly backfires as mum brain is real, and the amount of stuttering and blanks due to forgetting half the English language means going back to basics with farm yard noises could actually be entirely essential for my neural pathways 🤷🏼♀️.
