Brutal, honest truth โ If Iโve never gone out for coffee with you, weโre not close friends. But that absolutely doesnโt mean youโre not someone important to me, easy there tiger! I have swole mates, gym mates, business associates, clients, Lilโ Sistas, Lilโs Sista supporters, sponsors, fans, neighbors, -- many people that my life would be so different without. However, the truth is, living as a foreigner and small business owner in the Philippines, I donโt really have close friends here, in-country. Itโs very hard for me to connect with people here on a personal level because my life is so different than most I meet and they simply can't understand or relate. Consequently, Iโm super selective with who I share my free time with. I also most definitely have a โspecific typeโ I try to associate myself and I don't use the term "close friend" loosely. โฆand so, my circle of friends here is a dot. Iโm okay with that though because I never came to the Philippines to make friends. I came here for boxing but then I decided to stay because I wanted to make a difference, cause an impact, with what I was passionate about. Just recently though I made two new close friends, at Musclecontest Philippines โ23 โ Cristina, a female wellness competitor, and her husband, Cameron, a personal trainer. Since meeting them at Musclecontest, October 21/23, Iโve meet up with them more frequently than I ever have with any close friend Iโve ever had here in the Philippines since coming here almost 8 years ago. Yesterday they came to cheer on Noel at his first bodybuilding show and that meant so much to me. In a span of over a decade and 6 different countries, Iโve competing as โthat foreign athleteโ and am unfortunately used to not having family or close friends in the audience to cheer me on. But I didnโt want that for Noel and definitely not for his first show. Sharing yesterday with Cristina and Cameron meant a lot to me but the reality is theyโll be living the Philippines soon and Iโm already sad about it. But, like Winnie the Pooh once said, โhow lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hardโ.
