1936 wurde auf dem Hof Skjoldehamn (Andöya, Nordland, Norwegen) eine Moorleiche gefunden. Die zeitliche Spanne der Datierungen reicht von etwa 936 bis 1280. Die Tote (mutmaßlich eine Frau zwischen 40 und 50 Jahren), trug unter anderem eine Gugel aus Wolle im bei uns bekannten Skoldehamn Schnitt. Mit ein wenig Spielraum für Interpretation und Verzierung entwickle ich meine Nachstellung dieses historischen Kleidungsstücks. Am Wochenende waren wir mit @securi_et_gladio auf der @haderburg_castello_di_salorno und gaben unser Handwerk bei der Burgbelebung zum Besten. Zu sehen war die Schmuck- und Beschlagsherstellung mit einer Metall Treibtechnik, außerdem wurde mit Eitempera gemalt. Sonntags wurden auch noch Nesselschnüre geknüpft. Medieval Wax Sealing Recipe Experiment #1 Okay-so if you know me, you know I'm really passionate about sourcing. I want to know where materials come from and if the earth and people are treated with respect down the line. I can be pretty meticulous, perhaps its my virgo nature- but I find it so wonderful when you’re able to support artisans and crafts people doing it differently. There's almost always a better way, that's what I was thinking when I decided to make my own sealing wax for letters. There has to be a way- that's responsible and eco-friendly. Many companies I found don't list the ingredient in their sealing wax beads, and I know it's not just pure bee's wax or any other wax-there are additives which make is glossier and flexible as to not break in transit. Many common wax beads for sale come scented with perfume and who knows what else in the blend to make it cheaper. My first step was to call my local wax shop, I've gone to wix'nwax for years for candle making supplies. There a small local business that has been so helpful in the past-I'd really recommend it for candles and soap making, but they didn't have a recipe for making your own sealing wax. I went back to searching and found one company that makes natural sealing wax sticks from plant resins, they were out of my price range and in Paris, so I decided to look for natural resin wax recipes and aha I found a medieval recipe for making wax at home.
