Hey Muskoka! ๐๐ผ Chelsey here, the proud owner and cook behind Muskoka Fritter Company. I wanted to take a minute to reintroduce myself now that Iโve been doing this for 6 months, and I figured it was time to give a little background story on why and how I started making these fabulous fried fritters! In January 2023 I dropped out of college due to severe mental health struggles and financial difficulties that made it even harder to stay. I moved just over 400km from Huntsville leaving behind everything and everyone Iโve known my entire life, having spent my first 25 years in the same small town. When I made the decision to drop out and move back to Huntsville, I had no idea what to do with myself other than that I knew I needed to be doing something fulfilling, and perhaps something that would bring me an ounce of joy and peace. And so one night at home, I got bored and wanted a treat! But I didnโt want to spend any money. I had all the basic baking ingredients and exactly 4 honeycrisp apples in my fridge. Iโve always loved apple fritters, but never in my life had I deep fried anything! But I thought, why not try ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ Just for the heck of it! So I pulled out a cast iron skillet, my ingredients, and some oil. It turned out to be really easy and fun so I started bringing them to all my family and friends. It put a smile on their faces when they tried them, and it always put a smile on my face delivering them. So I thought, if they love them so much, maybe others will too! And thatโs how Muskoka Fritter Co. was born! ๐งก This job requires 4am wake ups and long hot days in a kitchen, but at the end of the day when Iโm doing my dishes and thinking back on all the interactions I had with my customers when delivering, it just simply makes me smile knowing that I made other people smile that day. Thank you so much to @jennpfrimmer and @ryan_bell for the recommendations on purchasing a #mandolin as well as upgrading my automatic apple peeler! These two new small investments have saved nearly 1.5 hours in the prepping process for cooking my signature apple fritters! I was able to prep 4 pounds of apples in less than 30 minutes, peeled, sliced, and diced.
